Charley Casserly responded to rumors that he is a candidate to take over football operations for the Browns during CBS’s The NFL Today on Sunday.
Casserly, the former G.M. of the Redskins and Texans, said that he’s had no discussions with Cleveland and that he doesn’t have any discussions planned in the near future about any position with the team. He stopped short of saying that he is not interested in the job, and then moved on to talk about perceived top candidate Mike Holmgren.
Casserly reports that Holmgren has had contact with the Browns, and that the former Packers and Seahawks coach is interested in meeting with Browns owner Randy Lerner about a position in Cleveland. With recent reports linking Holmgren to a return to the Seahawks, it is looking more likely by the week that Holmgren will be back in the NFL in 2010.
