Chargers linebackers take issue with McDaniels trash talk

After San Diego’s convincing 32-3 victory in Denver Sunday, the Chargers linebackers didn’t want to talk about the game.  They wanted to talk about what happened before the game.

Multiple players said Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said, “We own you” during pregame warmups.

Reached after the game by Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune on his way to the parking lot, McDaniels said the Chargers “talked to me first. . . . I’m not making a story about this.  If I did, I’d be able to tell you some things that aren’t for papers.”

We’re not sure there’s too much meat on this bone.  Even Chargers linebacker Shaun Phillips said it was in good fun.

“I’m not surprised. He’s a little cocky [rear
end]. It’s all good, all fun and games. We didn’t look too much into
it,” Phillips said.  “As a coach, I hope he has that mind-set. But to say he owns us? I
mean, you beat us one time. What has he really done in this league? He
had a team 6-0 and now he’s looking up at us from second place.”

Well said.  Phillips and the Chargers spoke loudest with their play, and could be looking at a 9-3 record with the Chiefs and Browns next on the schedule.

The Broncos haven’t owned a win since they last beat the Chargers on October 19.

How long until Jesse Jackson turns this into a racist/slavery issue?

They misunderstood him. He was clearly asking to buy some steroids.

McDaniels is a turd. He’s in way over his head just like EVERY Patriots assistant turned Head Coach. Bolts have 6 games left 4 of which are vs. KC, Cleveland, Tennessee, and Washington. The AFC West is ovah.

Hoping someone posts the video of the Patriots doing the lights-out dance in SanDiego and then Tomlinson crying about how disrespectful that is…
    Thanks in advance.

Remember the Broncos were supposed to be really really bad this year? Then they started out 6-0. Well now I think they are really really bad. I bet they’re not even in playoff contention in three weeks.

Broncos have no room to talk. They’re currently on a 4 game skid. They better worry about their own problems first.

“How long until Jesse Jackson turns this into a racist/slavery issue?”
About as long as it takes to issue an idiotic redneck take.
and about as long as it took The Chargers to take their foot out of the Broncos a$%.

because San Diego hasnt won a ring and neither has McDaniels (as a head coach)…and every other appointed “genious” from the Belichick tree.
Its relevant because he’s a pompus jackass who got his head handed to him. As did Navy,Pitt and UConn did to Charlie Weis.

Now that the honeymoon hype is gone, Broncos coach Josh McDaniels is grasping at straws.
Most NFL teams have already figured him out.

SmackMyVickUp must work for PFT because only Florio would think his jokes are funny.
I hate the entire AFC West by far the worst division in the NFL. People may say the NFC West but the NFC West had three teams go to the Super Bowl this decade, the AFC East is the only division to have more but they were all the same team (who was cheating in 3/4). The Chiefs get the occasional good season but haven’t won a Super Bowl since the 3rd one ever. The Chargers haven’t squandered away ever talented roster they have had. The highlight of their team is losing to the Niners in a SB by like 35 points. The Broncos used to be good then decided to fire the only good coach they ever had to hire a 32 year old trash talking moron who’s team was carried through a great start by an amazing first game, and since blew a 6-0 start and now have to try and play catch up. And the Raiders are of course the Raiders. The saddest thing about this division is that its fans (except for the Chargers fans who are the mot band wagon fans in the NFL) are all very passionate and get screwed over by horrible owners year after year. Except for the Raiders fans who still say DHB is better than Michael Crabtree.
In closing Josh McDaniels is a moron, Norv Turner, is a good OC, Todd Haley can work with Josh McDaniels at Notre Dame next year, and Tom Cable will probably end up sharing a cell with Vick and Plaxico.

2009 Broncos are the 2008 Redskins. New coach, quick start, fast drop off. Couldn’t happen to a better guy.
F McDaniels! Pump your fist to that one, (rear end) hole!

  21. YumanBeing says: Nov 23, 2009 8:49 AM

What’s that smell wafting down from the Rockies? Could it be the Doncos and their fans?

  22. I_Hate_Yams says: Nov 23, 2009 9:12 AM

Raider fans like Raider Clay have the intellect of a 9 year old. Look at their sorry ass team. I know they talk about their 3 rings, that’s fine. But France was once a world power too and look at them now.

  23. Corkscrew says: Nov 23, 2009 10:27 AM

I’ll give McDaniels this much: he and the Broncos have one more win than I thought they’d have all year.

  24. this class sucks says: Nov 23, 2009 2:04 PM

I_Hate_Yams your just as stupid as Raider Clay. At least Raiders fans have a good history to fall back on (passed down through oral tradition due to thier inability to read). What team do you like? The fact that you didn’t say what team probably means they don’t have 3 rings.
Florio here are some thing you need to add to this site: a profile for people so we can see what team people support so there is less faceless trash talking. Rating system for comments and articles. And so forth.

  25. jchilds23 says: Nov 23, 2009 4:54 PM

So the story is that Chargers linebackers “take issue with trash talk”? That’s hysterical! The biggest trash talkers in the NFL got their feelings hurt from someone else talking trash? This screams hypocritical. A little like how they think it’s OK for Merriman to dance every time he makes a freakin’ tackle but when the Patriots celebrated after a win LT got all teary-eyed and felt “disrespected”. Hilarious!

  26. Turd Furguson says: Nov 23, 2009 8:51 PM

So since when is Gregg Rosenthal qualified to say what is well said and isn’t? Was he there on the field when this trash talking took place? Has he coached a game in the NFL? Has he played a game in the NFL? Has he played a game in the Canadian Football league? No he is a nobody that should keep his opinion to himself.
That said what have the Chargers owned? Here is what they are the champions of… Being a great team “on paper”, being over rated every single year for the past three years, starting the season like crap and then half way through waking up and beating the special needs teams in their division, starting out on fire and then losing ACTUAL GOOD TEAMS like the Patriots or Colts in the playoffs, celebrating every single tackle with the lights out/choke a reality tv celebrity dance, crying after the game cause your a whiny cry baby, claiming to be the best running back in the NFL and then crying everytime they bring in a kick returner to replace you on 3rd down.
In the end the Chargers are a second rate organization with poor ownership, no superbowl rings, whiny showboating players that like to talk a lot of trash, not back it up, and then whine when someone talks trash to them. They have a giant fan base that consider themselves Padres fans until the Chargers are doing good then they just back on the wagon. HEY SAN DIEGO SHUT UP UNTIL YOU CAN WIN A SUPERBOWL.
