Cowboys stay in control of NFC East with win

Before the Cowboys took control of the ball Sunday with just over seven minutes to go Sunday, they had scored seven meaningless points in their previous seven quarters.

Then Tony Romo engineered the type of game-winning drive Dallas fans have been waiting for.  Romo improvised his way to seven completions on eight passes for 60 yards and the game-winning score to Patrick Crayton.  Dallas survived against Washington 7-6.

Sure, the Cowboys were still in the game because of two missed Washington field goals.  They couldn’t buy a pass to a wide receiver until the final drive.

But in this overrated NFC East, style points don’t matter.  (The only out of division win against a team currently with a winning record in the NFC East was by Washington — last week against Denver.)

The Cowboys now face Oakland on Thanksgiving with a golden chance to go 8-3.  The team’s inconsistent offense needs work, but every team in the division has major flaws.  With three division games left, there is much work left for Dallas.

But the team’s improving defense has been enough to put them in strong position for a division championship.

Now Romo just needs to pull off a few more drives like today’s after Thanksgiving.

Have a feeling the division could come down to another week 17 Eagles/Cowboys clash.

The Cowboys are in control of the NFC East?
    Big deal.
That’s like finishing first in a race with 4 people in it when the other 3 are wearing snowshoes.

Wow, you guys really work hard to avoid giving the 7-3, division-leading Cowboys credit, don’t you? The only out of division win against a team currently with a winning record? Which member of your crack staff came up with that?

Cowboys were lucky to win today, Skins had the game but they were just too inept to finish it.
Cowboy fans have nothing to smile about as their offense has looked like ass in the last 3 games.

7-6 is the perfect score for this game. Two owners who think they know football, overspend on splash free agents and never do squat in the playoffs. The two organizations deserve each other as arch rivals. But Jerry Jones is just a single point ahead because he doesn’t have his own personal Vinny.

Big deal. The Cowboys have plenty of offensive talent, but NO coaching. Jason Garrett must go. They didn’t complete a pass to a WR in the first 3.5 quarters.

Tony Romo+win against the Racistkins= getting some tang!!

Disappointing as a Skins fan because the better team today did not win. Just the way the season has gone for the Skins this year. And the current Crackboys losing streak in the playoffs looks to continue this year. How could it end for a team that let Jason Campbell and Rock Cartwright dominate them for 3 1/2 quarters?

Romo needs to remember what he did to get the ball to Miles Austin and get his shit together!
The Cowboys are wasting his unique talent.

They only need 10 wins in the nfc to get in the playoffs. After they beat Oakland, they only need 2 more wins.

Wow, that Tony Romo is a great QB. What a 4th quarter drive to take down that incredible Redskins team.

It’s better than NOT taking down the Redskins, isn’t it?
When all you got on a guy is that he didn’t play great and still wins, you got nothing.

No punts hit the video board. That Jerry Jones sure is stupid. Maybe its just not that big of a deal.

I wouldn’t be too proud if I was a Cowpies fan. Their offense is already stinking it up and it isn’t even December-When-Tony-Romo-Goes-Into-The-Tank time yet.
I know my favorite team has serious issues. Nobody expected the Skins to even contend for this game, but if Suisham hits only one of the two FGs he missed then Romo’s heroics at the end are meaningless.
Cowpie fans ought’a have a nice cup of STFU and be grateful they weren’t playing a team with a more effective offense today.

  17. dakotah says: Nov 22, 2009 10:08 PM

It seems to me that the Cowboys are only effective on offense when they’re running a spread offense. Anybody else notice this?

Winning the NFC East comes down to which team is hot at the right time. The Giants looked great the first month, but then they stunk it up against N.O. and Philly (even against Arizona and S.D., they showed flashes of excellence).
Philly had an early period of brilliance too, and has come and gone since then. Dallas got hot for a month, until they lost at GB.
It will depend on which team is hot in December, since there are so many divisional games in the last month.

Hey, Cowboys haters here, why don’t you announce here who is your team? Unless you’re at least 7-3 and leading your division, why don’t you STFU?

  21. NoKoolaidCowboy says: Nov 23, 2009 7:03 AM

    This was an ugly win.
This deep into the season and Wade still doesn’t know what is happening.
Romo is trying to compare football to golf. (Dude, clean yourself up and put on a clean shirt before you talk to the media)
Oh, and Jason Garrett’s play calling is weak.

  22. overkil2 says: Nov 23, 2009 9:18 AM

Give Romo credit, he orchestrated the game winning drive and beat a team they were supposed to beat. An ugly win is still a win.
I bet the Steelers and Browns would take a 1 point win this week.

“Cowboy fans have nothing to smile about as their offense has looked like ass in the last 3 games.”
Um, they gained almost 6 yards per offensive play against the Eagirls. Look at you, the Eagirls are 1-2 over the last two games including a home loss to the Cowboys and you’re talking shit. 20-16. In Philly.

  24. VoxVeritas says: Nov 23, 2009 9:21 AM

Yeah they did. The Deadskins are the worst team in the NFCE.

They didn’t dominate, at best the Redskins have 12 points, which is acceptable – if you can hold a team to just fieldgoals you are in good shape.
The Redskins D + Roy Williams did a nice job against the Cowboys Offense though.
