The Dolphins have made it all the way back to 5-5 after a 0-3 start, but making the playoffs will be even harder.
The team is preparing to lose nose tackle Jason Ferguson for the season, according to Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. It's believed Ferguson will be placed on injured reserve with a season-ending knee injury so the Dolphins can fill his roster spot in upcoming weeks.
Miami's defensive line play has been a strength this year, but Ferguson is a difficult player to replace at nose tackle. With vastly improved youngster Paul Soliai also nursing an ankle injury, the team will look to Tony McDaniel and defensive end Randy Starks to help out in the middle.
Ferguson is 34 years old and was believed to be considering retirement before the injury.
