Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger received a bell ringing on the first drive of overtime in Sunday's loss to the Chiefs. He left the game, and the game ended before the Steelers could generate a second possession.
Per a league source, the early signs are encouraging. Roethlisberger flew home with the team, and while he initially was dazed after the impact, he had no memory loss or nausea.
So is there any chance he'll miss next Sunday night's game against the Ravens? Per the source, it'll take a lot to keep Roethlisberger from playing.
Early indications are positive for Roethlisberger

"Per the source, it'll take a lot to keep Roethlisberger from playing."
Like flying head-first into the windshield of a car?
This is good news. Since my favorite team can't get it done, I'm rooting for Pittsburgh this year.
His hit looked alot like Westbrooks...Ben looked really out of it on sidelines.
Granted Ben has been through alot of hits, but sooner or later these are really gonna catch up with him; didn't get just have a concussion in Week 16 last year against the Browns?
But then again, he won a SB 3 games later, so who knows, maybe concussions are all good as long as your a Steeler. Didn't Polamalu have like 6 concussions before he was even drafted?
Wait, you mean the Steelers won the coin toss, but loss the game? How is that possible? From what I hear, the coin toss decides the winner of the game. We need to raise this to the highest levels of the NFL. The Steelers were robbed of a guaranteed win after WINNING the coin toss. Mike, will you get on this right away, please?
Do you think b/c of the rule instituted this week that the NFL will force the Steelers to get an outside doctor to check if Big Ben has a concussion and if he does if he should play.
This dude MUST have a Neanderthal skull.... And the brain to go along with it.
Why do you keep calling me "Ben"?
I'm Batman!
Or until turns 40 will he really feel the effects of not only big hits like the one he took today but all the little blows that he takes throughout his career. Say hello to Mr. Dementia Ben.
it is obvious that all the punishment that ben absorbs is gonna take a toll on him. while he may be 1 of the few quarterbacks that can take the beating he has up until now and still been succsessful i dont believe he will have as long of a career as some of the other great qb's of history. by time he is favre as old as favre is now he will already be in canton.
Did anyone else notice how fat he is? He took off his helmet after getting hurt and I swear I saw the fattest looking nerd football player ever. No wonder he had to rape that chick.
"by time he is favre as old as favre is now he will already be in canton."
looks like Ben isn't the only one that's taken a shot to the head
Weeble von Wobble (Florio): I would like to see you take all these teams, that had players with concussions this week, to task much like you did the Eagles........I won't hold my breathe, but figure since you have to ride a coal train back to the foothills of West Va., you've got the time.
Hell, even Dunder-Mifflin sent a limo to get Michael Scott..........just saying.
By my count: Arizona, St. Louis, and Pittsburgh need to be forced to sit their quarterbacks for multiple weeks.. Call them out, Mike.....
BWest gets knocked loopy the first time and people like Lord Florio are calling for him to retire.
I'm curious why the same things are not being said about Big Ben and Kurt Warner.......
Ben cant win a game to save himself.....he NEEDS the defense to save him.
i get the feeling this is a 'cover up' by the steelers so ben can play vs the ravens sunday night (on nbc)
if the steelers say 'ben had a concussion' then he isnt playing vs the ravens.....a cover up = he can play vs the ravens.
either way the steelers lost to the chiefs AND they won the cointoss.
someone explain how a team won in overtime AFTER losing the coin toss.
If the game the Steelers played yesterday doesn't induce nausea, then Rothlisberger must have a concussion. (Especially on special teams.)
Ah, now I know why Florio is so willing to talk trash about the Bengals not being an elite team even though his Steelers lost, he's found himself an excuse. He actually believes that if Big Ben hadn't been concussed, the Steelers would have won, whereas the Bengals have no excuse for losing to the Raiders. Ah, my enemy hypocrisy, you have revealed your wretched face to me once more.
Ben uses his head to cushion the impact. It protects more important organs... ones that he may have to actually use.
People who are upset at Florio for not calling the Stealers out on this need to relax. He understands that potential brain damage is not an option in this case...because, you know, there would have to be a brain inside that giant meat head.
Mike,
The phrase 'got his bell rung' needs to go. Use 'blow to the head' or 'possible concussion'. 'Bell rung' makes it sound like something minor, until you realize that the clapper hitting the side of the bell is really your brain smashing up against your skull.
I have to agree with previous posters; Ben's career will likely be shortened by the hits he takes. He has no "phone booth quicks" and it's just a matter of time before the guy who is hard to get down becomes the guy who can't get up.
"Roethlisberger flew home with the team, and while he initially was dazed after the impact, he had no memory loss or nausea."
I could have sworn I saw birds flying around his head and wasn't he mumbling something about Tweetie bird singing in his ear?
