Favre's big game has him feeling more confident

Brett Favre admitted today that there were times, as he struggled through the 2008 season with the Jets, that he started to lose confidence.

But now that he's rolling through the 2009 season with the Vikings, he says he feels awfully good about where he and his team are going.

"Getting back to that confidence that I had when I didn't know any better, that was pretty good," Favre said after leading the Vikings to a 35-9 win over the Seattle Seahawks. "And I'm feeling more confident. I'm more of a realist at this age, but that doesn't mean you can't go out there and turn it loose."

Favre has every reason to feel confident after he completed 22 of 25 passes (a career-high 88 percent) for 213 yards and four touchdowns.

The Vikings improved to 9-1 while the Seahawks fell to 3-7.

Seahawks coach Jim Mora said after the game what a lot of opposing coaches have been thinking about Favre: "I saw Brett after the game and said, 'Would you retire, please,"' Mora said. "He said 'You've been saying that to me for about eight years,' and I said, 'I know, and I'm going to keep saying it to you.' The guy is remarkable, but we've still got to be better."

LOL, I can't wait when Favre loses the big game like he has done for 16 years! It's just a matter of time. By then, the Queens will be back to where they always belonged.... being irrelevant!

que the people saying Favre is still going to fall apart later...while facing single coverages...having multiple weapons to throw to...in a comfortable dome enviornment...while handing it off to Adrian Peterson...

Yes, Coaches have been saying that for some time now- Even one stout jolly coach had these thoughts while coaching Favre.

Ted Thompson was executive of the year when the Pack went to the NFC championship Game but now it's like watching the Bulls sans Michael Jordan.

If Favre can stay "healthy" the Vikings may run the table during the regular season. At most, I see only one more regular season loss for the Vikings.

  7. PervyHarvin says: November 22, 2009 8:14 PM

As a Vikings hardcore fan since a child,I feel so blessed to witness this season we have going right now. I'm telling you,the Vikings are a force in the NFL. We are the heavy hitter right now. Favre is perfect here. He loves being the "big man on campus" for us. The young players respect him to the bone and Favre loves that role. The veterans looking for a trophy embrace him as well. But at the same time,he gives his team mates the old "be all you can be feeling." That HOF swagger and legendary status that Favre brings has been witnessed first hand by his new team mates. He elevates the play of his troops. I see true talent, chemistry, and love for the game with this Vikings team. Sky is the limit, I really believe that for the first time in years.

For the,"wait til the late season Favre break down jackoffs." : I think you are waiting for a ship that isn't coming. Best look for a new drum to beat.

Who wouldn't feel confident after kicking my Seahawks asses... Seattle will lose at STL next week and will go 0-8 on the road this year..

I hope they clean house... everyone except the cooks and training/equipment staff...

Sooner or later I think Mr. Florio is gonna have to start giving some "love" to Brett Favre and the Vikings. Florio tried to make a living off of Favre bashing during preseason etc., is he man enough to eat some crow now? Saints mite be undefeated but Favre is doing everything that Brees is, Vikes WR's are better than Saints, A. Peterson is better than Saints running game and Vikes defense is considerably better than Saints. Saints defense is predicated on having a large lead where guys like Sharper etc. can "gamble" but that will be negated against the Vikings. And we know from experience that Sharper plays like Deion Sanders did and that is that he wants NO PART of tackling.......especially trying to meet someone like Adrian Peterson head on. Sharper will "come up lame" rather than have to try and tackle AD.

  12. Fidelito says: November 22, 2009 8:46 PM

Why do you have to hurt Florio so much by writing such things MDS? I think the question for Favre now is what's a disappointing season? If the Vikes get shredded by Drew Brees in the NFC championship, is it a failed season? I'd say one playoff win is necessary, and then whatever happens after that is gravy.

  13. cusoman says: November 22, 2009 8:56 PM

Packer fans, you crack me up!

You keep saying Favre is going to "throw many INTs!" or "get injured" or "choke and Tavaris will bring the Vikes down"... now all you have to fall back on is that he will "choke in the playoffs"?

I look foward to your cries of "Oh he'll just fall apart in the Super Bowl!", I really do.

  14. bustabloodvessel says: November 22, 2009 9:03 PM

glad to see him having such an outstanding season, but like pervy said, it's not all him. Everyone has stepped up their game from the receivers to the defensive backs. I got a feeling we have a magical season!

  15. myasylum says: November 22, 2009 9:10 PM

  16. DCViking says: November 22, 2009 9:32 PM

The thing about all the doubter is that for all the good he's done and how well he has played, if(when) he has a bad game they'll roll out the "I told you so" chants.

I admit I thought the signing was a bad idea(clearly I was wrong), but some of you should give the guy some credit --- he's played above what anyone expected --- regardless of how the end of the season goes.

  17. The Doctor says: November 22, 2009 9:41 PM

As a lifelong Viking fan, this season has already been a tremendous success. This group is the most balanced we have had in the 30 plus years I have been following team. Unfortunatley, for all the naysayers, we are in a position of "Super Bowl Victory or Bust". If Brett leads us all the way to the bowl, but we lose, they will have their last laugh. It is a shame, because we have all the pieces in place. I pray that this year ends differently than all the others since 1961. We need the victory in the Super Bowl to make all the suffering worth while.

  18. The Doctor says: November 22, 2009 9:42 PM

Which 2 playoff opponents would that be?

cowboys who scored 7 pts against the mighty redskins and the 49ers who are just mailing it in now and wont come within 3 games of a playoff spot and havent in quite some time. Green Bay is irrelevant in the NFC North but a possible Wild card team competing with Atlanta, New York, Philly or Dallas. Keep up the good play as of late, maybe we'll see you 2nd week of the playoffs if you can get past week 1 and the lowest rated division winner on the road.

Playing patsys has a way of building confidence. Enjoy it (the regular season) while you can. The Vikings have the easiest schedule I can remember. Cleveland 1-9, Detroit (2) 2-8, Seattle 3-7, combined with lucky wins against SF and Baltimore; all add up to "the best of the worst!" I can smell the first round exit from here, and the Vikings fans will be able to "remember when", all the way back to beating the Packers twice. That will be it. That will be your season. Let's all clap our hands. and say "good for you."

Some of you seem to not be able to grasp that these games are not played on paper. Kansas City beat Pittsburgh who beat Minnesota. So with some of your logic Kansas City would beat Minnesota. It a game played by humans where things can go wrong. Chicken I would take that crystal ball back from wherever you got it from because you got jobbed and its costing you money in lost wagers!

The Vikes can only play who's on the schedule. Blame the NFL if you want to cry some more. Every contender has beat up on some terrible teams, it's the way the NFL is this season. We still have the Cardinals, Bengals, and Giants left, maybe once we take care of business there you'll finally shut up. Either way I don't see how Pack fans have any room to talk, we've already beaten you twice this season.

  44. Ambrose says: November 23, 2009 11:00 AM

Can we focus on the here and now? What do you have to say about that? You don't have to look very far to see that we're beating the Packers, in a hefty manner, no less.

  46. Supersuckers says: November 23, 2009 11:30 AM

Funny how the NFC Norths schedules are the same except 2 games and the Vikings have the easiest? NOT. Packers got TB (and Lost) while the Vikings got Carolina. Vikings get the Giants and Packers got the Cowboys. So the schedule argument just shows exactly how pathetic the Packers are.

    ____________________________________

It's true. We're not exactly a great team. However, I think the loss to the Bucs may have actually been a good thing, in retrospect. It seems to have lit fires under the right asses and given McCarthy the biggest reality check of his career.

We're in the lead wildcard spot. That's not anything to be ashamed of, and it's far better than I expected after the two losses to the Vikings. If we can just stay there, I'll be happy enough.

If not however, there are no excuses left. Injuries are a part of the game. Good teams can compensate for them. Bad teams can't.

If it is shown that after five years, Thompson STILL has failed to build a good team, nothing Bob Nelson or Super Suck can say will save him. It's that simple.

So say the new replacements for Bobby and Jimmy. Their "points" are just a shade better, but their intellect is the same. It's a shame. I gave Ambrose a few nice words recently for behaving better than the usual beer-stained gutterballs.

All then can do is barf up frustrated lameness at Minny's success while Almighty Green Bay struggles to win a few.

This is the NFL. Each team is equal at the start of the year in this league. Period. Winning in the NFL is success. Those claiming that schedules are somehow rigged or slanted are morons. No money is made by doing such, you boneheads, and the NFL is ALL about money. No one will pay to see lopsided games. It's not Minny's fault that Detroit is Detroit and Chicago is melting down. Nor is it Green Bay's right to expect some magical love from all just because you're the Packers. That's why the games are played, you idiots: for fun, excitement and MONEY. Duh. That's why upsets still grab TV and PRINT time. And why rivalries still matter after decades.

Minnesota MAY see GB again in the playoffs, but only if the Packers literally run the table and Minny loses more than thought and plays in the first playoff round (How likely is that? Not very.). Wildcard is GB's only chance to make something of its season. Minnesota is playing for first-round bye and home field advantage while taking every game seriously. And if it is Vikes/ Packers in the playoffs, it'll be at the Hump. Pukers please recall how the last one turned out (by God, that pisses you off, doesn't it?). Your O line isn't any better and Minny is recently able to rest starters at the end of games with big leads.

The Vikings talent level has been obvious for the past couple of years. What is different about the 2009 team is that they believe in themselves and are consistently playing hard.
They could have easily lost the SF game, and maybe a couple of other games as well. Part of the story in the week 3 miracle was that they approached that final play like winning was actually possible.
One of the telling vignettes of this season happened off the field in the week 10 win over Detroit . . . Sidney Rice doing 50 fist pushups on the sideline, after dropping a Tavaris Jackson pass to mar his 200+ yard day. These guys believe they can catch most every ball, make most every block, hit most every hole.
The Vikings have had talented teams before. Rarely have they played with the energy and enthusiasm this team shows.
