Phony fire alarm is wake-up call for Jets

The New York Jets stayed in a New England hotel last night before today’s game against the Patriots, and a Patriots fan in the building may have used a false fire alarm to give New England an edge.

Multiple Jets players are saying on Twitter that they had to get out of bed in the middle of the night when a fire alarm was pulled, even though there was no fire.

Tight end Dustin Keller tweeted in the wee hours of Sunday morning, “So much for a good nights sleep..the alarm just went off in our teams hotel hahaha grown men walking around the hallway in their draws haha.”

Jets safety Kerry Rhodes tweeted after getting out of bed, “You know we are playing New England when in the middle of the night when you are asleep somebody pulls a fire alarm to wake u up!! wow!!”

There’s no proof that it was a Patriots backer who pulled the fire alarm, but that’s clearly what Rhodes is suggesting. We’ll see if the Jets look sleepy this afternoon.

UPDATE: This is apparently a frequent problem for teams that play New England; the Bills were also awakened by a fire alarm the night before they played the Patriots this season.

In their “draws”? Typically intelligent football player.

  2. of course it was a Pats backer…and he deserves praise for sticking it to the slimy Jets. No edge needed.

  3. Fan? Yeah right! Belichick had it done! The surprising thing is he didn’t try to have the motel burned down.

  4. I love how tfbuckfutter makes fun of the intellect of a player by writing a sentence fragment himself. I think you meant typical football player, not typically. haha!

  5. @TFBuckFutter
Draws is short for drawers which is another word for underwear.
    The more you know….

  6. Didn’t the same thing happen earlier this season when another division rival (either Miami or Buffalo….I can’t remember) visited New England?
    I’m pretty sure it did.

Uh no it didn’t. But how typical of fans of other teams to make things up and attribute it to the Pats. After all if nothing wrong has been done by the team, you can just lie about it.

“Draws” is NOT short for “drawers”, it’s an urban mispronunciation & hence misspelling of the word “drawers”. Dustin Keller betta save his bread, yo.

so their fans are cheaters too, how does it feel to have 3 illegitimate super bowls?
Uh, it feels pretty damn good! Maybe I’ll watch a DVD of one them before the Pats kick0ff and then kick-ass at 4:15.
    Moron!

  10. It was Belicheat for sure. Anything to gain an edge. He probably videotaped the guys getting out of bed to so that he would have some material to go over. Looking for quickness, mobility, bumps and bruises on their bodies. The man will try anything to gain an edge. LOL

  11. well thank goodness erin andrews wasn’t staying in the hotel, you know the pats had cameras in the rooms seeing who was getting a sims-walker

I think Keller just liked looking at the other players morning wood.

That’s not what I was referring to.

    This is.
Even if he had said “drawls” it would have been urbanly correct. He is dumb and thought that is how you spell “drawers”.

  14. Oh, and also…..I didn’t say “typically football player”. I said “typically INTELLIGENT football player”. It’s an adverb.

  15. what a bunch of cheaters-do what you gotta do to stay ahead patsies its only gonna last another 7 weeks or so before your dynasty is finished.

  16. Turns out a maintenance crew was sanding the wall near the fire alarm, causing it to activate. Go read about it on Mike Reiss’s blog.
Or just keep whining about how the Patriots play better football than your team “cheat.”

FOXBOROUGH — The fire alarm which sounded at 1 a.m. Sunday in the Jets’ Providence hotel was not a prank, according to Bruce Speight, senior director of Jets media relations.
Speight relayed word that the alarm went off after workers were sanding a wall in the hallway and the sand covered the fire alarm sensor.

  18. Hey to all the used bags of douche juice who accused the team or the fans of doing this –

  19. Happened once when I was staying in a motel in Philly in the middle of the night at about 20 below zero with wind chill temperatures. I never connected Belichik to it, but now it’s clear. Seems like Belichick is a serial false alarmer?

  21. Who in the hell is sanding walls at 1:00 AM in the morning at a Hotel?
How much did Belicheat pay that maintenance crew to do this?

Companies that work at upscale hotels during off-hours so the rich guests rarely if ever have to be exposed to them?

  23. So despite the fact that THE JETS were the ones to come out and say it wasn’t a prank, some of you pathetic losers are still crying “cheaters”. Wow. Now I’m convinced you are all just sad, very little men with nothing better to do than start fights on the Internet. That actually makes me sad for you. You’re the guys who beat up other teams fans in the parking lot, aren’t you? Like I said, little, little men.

  24. Hugh- just what I’d expect from the type of idiot I was referring to. I’d tell you to have your girlfriend make you one but no girl with a fuctioning cerebral cortex would spend more than 10 consecutive minutes with you.
Salty- who’s “they”? There’s no mention of them catching anyone, just random speculation from an Internet blogger, who then dismisses his own theory one sentence later. Any mention of this from the other teams who have stayed there this year? Not that I’m aware. If there’s some random fan pulling the alarm he/she is doing a crap job. Where were they for the Dolphins, Ravens and Falcons?

  25. Kate – don’t get too defensive. It’s unbecoming and makes Pats fans look guilty. Nothing wrong with just saying that Patriots fans definitely take it to another level. No other teams have had these issues. It’s just the facts.
