Shanahan's wish list could include Dallas, Washington, Houston

As Peter King of NBC pointed out during halftime of Saturday’s UConn-Notre Dame game, former Broncos coach Mike Shanahan will wait until after the season ends to pick his next NFL gig.

There’s a rumor in league circles that Shanahan has three teams at the top of his wish list:  the Cowboys, Redskins, and Texans.

Most expect the first two teams to have vacancies, barring unforeseen finishes to the season.  But the Texans surely won’t make a move on Gary Kubiak if he takes them to the playoffs.

And it would be awkward, to say the least, for Shanahan to succeed his former Denver lieutenant, if Kubiak goes.  Then again, the presence of Shanahan’s son, Kyle, as the offensive coordinator in Houston could overcome any angst arising from the appearance that Mike Shanahan has derived a benefit from something bad that happened to his former colleague.

If I were him, there would only be one of thoose three even possible. Texans. The other two have too interferring owners.. Texans no. 1, Dallas no. 2, Redskins no. 3.

Keep an eye on Chicago. Shanahan has a built in qb that knows his system and if he can add d-coordinator like Rob Ryan, the Bears are back on top.

Why would Shanahan even remotely consider Washington or dallas? Neither Daniel Snyder and Jerry Jones would ever give him the full control he would demand! Thier egos would never stand for that!

Billick to the Bills, mark it down.

There’s a rumor in league circles that Marc Trestman has four teams at the top of his wish list: the Florida Tuskers, Frankfurt Galaxy, Buffalo Bills, and Oakland Raiders – in that order.

    @Alzado’s Vein
Billick will FAIL in Buffalo; Marvin Lewis won him a Super Bowl.
The Bills should hire Marty Schottenheimer…he’s the best guy available for a serious reclamation project and only top coach that would even consider the job – Ihope hes not too far off the radar for Double R (Ralph/Russ)

Bear fans…so delusional, 2nd only to Vikings fans.

Mike Mularkey will be the Redskins next head coach.
Jason Garrett will be the Cowboys next head coach.
The Texans will keep Gary Kubiak.
Mike Shanahan will be in Buffalo, and maybe bring his son along as coordinator.

There is no possilbe reason for Wade Phillips to be kept around at the end of this season. The Cowboys could win the Super Bowl and there would be no guarantees that Coach Stay Puft could do it again.
    Wake up Jerry.

    Excellent point

It seems to be well known that Chicago will not eat the money on Lovie’s contract. While I am a bronco fan, I would be intrigued by Shanny in Chicago. Just think the bears are too cheap.

Wow, how long did it take you to come up with that gem?

Give up the Texans talk already. Kubiak isn’t going anywhere.

I grew up in the FW area and will always be a cowboys fan and I think Wade needs to go. I’m not that impressed with Garrett either. Dallas needs a coach that can bring some discipline back to the team and either shut up or get rid of the crying receivers.

Philips certainly isn’t perfect, but isn’t it a little absurd/stupid to call for him to fired when the Cowboys are 7-3 and leading the division? Do you expect him to majorly screw up later on later so you can say you wanted him gone the entire time or something? Seriously, wait until he messes up this year before saying he should be fired. The defense has been playing phenomenally and he is the d coordinator/head coach…if anything, Jason Garrett should be fired for being an inept coordinator with all that offensive firepower and not understand balance.

  17. Stinemonster says: Nov 22, 2009 6:33 PM

My opinion is Philips is too laid back to be a head coach. He’s a great D coordinator but not a good head coach. I hope they make it to the playoffs and win at least one game. We will see.
Garrett isn’t that impressing. He’s probably way over paid too.

Shanahan to the Cowboys would be…..such a waste….. Shanahan is a good coach who would be squandered on a team with a owner who cant get out of his own way! Like the Cowboys but getting tired of Jones…….was watching one of those old Dirty Harry movies the other day….Big Ed Mustafa used a line that would best describe Shanahan to Dallas…”stone waste of white”…..

Next Redskins coach…Jim Fassel. Who it should be? Russ Grim or John Fox (if he is fired).
    Next Cowboys Coach…Jason Garrett
    Next Bills Coach…Charlie Weis. :)

What about if Lovie Smith has a bad year and the Bears go looking for a new coach. Shanahan is from the Chicago area and he could hook up with Cutler again.
