Shanahan’s wish list could include Dallas, Washington, Houston

As Peter King of NBC pointed out during halftime of Saturday’s UConn-Notre Dame game, former Broncos coach Mike Shanahan will wait until after the season ends to pick his next NFL gig.

There’s a rumor in league circles that Shanahan has three teams at the top of his wish list: the Cowboys, Redskins, and Texans.

Most expect the first two teams to have vacancies, barring unforeseen finishes to the season. But the Texans surely won’t make a move on Gary Kubiak if he takes them to the playoffs.

And it would be awkward, to say the least, for Shanahan to succeed his former Denver lieutenant, if Kubiak goes. Then again, the presence of Shanahan’s son, Kyle, as the offensive coordinator in Houston could overcome any angst arising from the appearance that Mike Shanahan has derived a benefit from something bad that happened to his former colleague.
