The Bengals blew a 14-0 lead, gave up 10 points in the final minute and lost 20-17 to the Raiders.
Said Bengals WR Andre Caldwell of fumbling a kickoff that led to the winning field goal, “I think I should have gone down. I’ll learn from it now. Trying to get some extra when there was nothing
there. That’s part of being a young guy like me. You live and you learn.”
Bengals FB Jeremi Johnson fumbled on the Raiders 14 to kill a fourth quarter drive.
Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports wonders why the Bengals didn’t use WR Chad Ochocinco more often on Sunday.
The Bengals lost the pass rush battle on both sides of the ball by allowing three sacks and failing to come up with any of their own.
Raiders QB Bruce Gradkowski’s statistics, 17 of 34 for 183 yards, were more pedestrian than his play in the fourth quarter.
The Raiders defense gave up big chunks of yardage, but forced three turnovers and held just often enough to give the offense a chance to win the game.
The defense’s performance was all the more impressive because the Raiders were without DE Richard Seymour after the game’s first series.
Raiders S Tyvon Branch had 12 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble.
Said Raiders G Robert Gallery, “We needed somebody to
make a play, and they made it on special teams and put us in a position
to win. Everything just clicked. When we do that consistently, we’re
going to be a real good team.”
Terrible. I am stuck watching “Tressel ball” on Saturdays, now I am stuck with the same on Sundays, ugh. The main difference between the two is, the Buckeyes are better at the field position game and not turning over the ball. Why didn’t they go for the throat with all the chances they had? The Bengals dominated that game, and played not to loose, rather than to win.

We got ourselves a real good one here. He’s got great instincts, speed and ball hawking skills. Plus, he’s very good in coverage, you can line him up against WR’s, no problem.
Not bad for a 4th round pick.

Silver is a moron. Palmer throws to him whenever possible, dude just wasn’t open in the 2nd half.
Meanwhile, every win that does not involve Jamarcus Russell makes Raider’s fans wonder what could have been this season if the plug had been pulled on him earlier.
This is basically two straight seasons (Kiffen-gate and now Russell’s long rope) where Al Davis “making a point” has put the effort of the rest of the team in the toilet.
Al is the man. It’s his fault the Raiders are losing right? He’s also the reason the Raiders are one of the greatest franchises in history and why the NFL is what it is today. AL call Jeff Garcia and Chucky = sbowl next year
the bengals won’t be a super bowl threat until they learn to put teams away when the opportunity arises. you don’t see the colts/patriots/saints try and play the field possession game when they are up by 14. go for the throat. it’s ok to embarrass the other team. it is the nfl.
joe in toronto, how can you say chad wasn’t open. i watched the same game as you, the bengals ran the ball the whole 2nd half, and never once did they show the coverage on chad.
What a travesty of game planning and execution. Put them away! You’re up 14 in the first half after two great drives! F*%k! Ole Bob gets complacent in play calling after establishing a lead, I’ve said it all year, whatever they establish, he abandons for a change of pace. They were doing a great job mixing up runs and passes and Bob decides to become one dimensional later in the game.
What on earth is up with Carson ‘One yard TD Run’ Palmer and two freaking 1yd TD runs? It is ridiculous they didn’t give Bernard Scott the opportunity to score. OK, I’ll admit I had Scott in my line-up (instead of Frank Gore going against the Packers) this weekend. What a freaking crock!!! Someone help me understand. AND as a Steelers fan, thank you Raider Nation!!!

@ Joe in Toronto-
How the hell do you know that? Were you at the game and witnessed it? What I saw, was a team that ran, ran, ran the ball, then played conservative with their scoring opportunities. If you got the same CBS broadcast I got, they weren’t showing replays of Chad covered up the 2nd half.
Don’t make horseshit comments because “you think” he was covered up in the 2nd half. Even still, being a Canadian isn’t an excuse for making idiotic comments.
@superdave,
One was a rollout and a broken play where Carson ran the football and the second was Brian Leonard on a three yeard run up the gut to the one and the Bengals going straight back to the line to catch the Raiders sucking air. I agree with you on the first one, why call a pass play on 2nd and Goal from the one (possibly B Scott isnt that pounder C Bezzy is), but the second was a smart call, caught them sleeping and it tacked the end of a long long drive.
AND as a Bengals fan, thank you Chiefs Nation

Ah yes, the regional attack, how classy.
Let me guess, your smarter or better than me because you live south of the border, right?
Anyway, I’m merely using logic, try to follow along. I know for a fact that Palmer didn’t have 22 attempts in the 1st half and I know for a fact that he did have 22 attempts in the whole game.
This tells me he did in fact throw the ball in the 2nd half Add in the fact that Ochostinko didn’t catch any more balls because he remained with the 4 he had in the 1st half and viola!
Got it, jackass?
joe in toronto, fail and fail again. the double dooper.
1) from a television broadcast it can be very difficult to tell if a wr is open, especially when the team has been extremely run heavy (chad doesnt run routes for run plays, he blocks, so of course he isnt “open”)
2) did you think he meant “threw the ball literally zero times in the 2nd half”? thats a straw mans arguement, and a very bad one at that.
and by the way, chad doesnt have to be open to have the ball thrown his way.
oh yea, and he did have a catch in the 2nd half, the 4th quarter i believe….viola
dustyschmidt22:
Like I said earlier, that big mouthed mofo gets the ball thrown to him if he’s open, plain and simple, and he did nothing in the 2nd half. I know most plays were runs but when Palmer DID pass, it wasn’t to Stinko.
You guys scored a big 3 points in the 2nd half.
Get over it, you collapsed and you lost, period.
Step off Joe Toronto….
You lost…Suck it up dumps.
@dustybutt22…..
Fail and fail again…You should be checking your team and not on here for the failing.
Better yet check your rings….oops…sorry.
If he was open then he would’ve gotten the ball.
But we ran all over you….ummm…yeeah…and..
Shoulda put us away but could’nt….Whaa..
GFY.

They tried to close it out. It just didn’t happen. Palmer knew they had to get up early and ugly to knock the fight out of Oakland, and said as much before the game. But their line play was inferior on both sides of the ball, and that’s why they lost. The turnovers were just a bonus.
All I can say is, well done to the Raiders. It’s amazing what a team can do with a bit of a change.
It also just shows how much sport is played above the shoulders these days.
We might have been outplayed but we were in front at the end.
I was at the game and Nami was all over ocho. Listen to the interview after the game and hear what ocho said about Nami and his cover skills. I give it to Ocho for the respect he showed Nami after the game. Both never talked to each other during the game, which is not like ocho, but he said the same. When I heard Ocho talk about Nami it changed my opinion of him. The guy knows how to respect a good player…More then I can say about most w/r who have to go against a quality d/b. Its to bad most fans in the NFL don’t get to see Nami play, because tv never can show you individual skills of a d/b. You get a little bit of it, at most. Palmer knew what he was doing. ocho caught his passes on Johnson, the other d/b. one catch (i think) on Nami for short yardage..
He caught one against Nnamdi, jocko.
It was a dig route for about 12 yards or so.
this some good chit, we win the game and get to read about fans from other teams slap eachother around. And for the record I was at the game and chad johnson was covered as well as his alter-ego.
its hard to put a team away when you turn the ball over and you aren’t as good as the team ur playin.
