Ferguson headed to injured reserve

PFT mentioned Sunday morning that the Dolphins were bracing themselves to lose nose tackle Jason Ferguson for the season.

Dolphins coach Tony Sparano confirmed the news Monday, saying Ferguson would not be back with the team this season.  He’s expected to be placed on injured reserve.

Tony McDaniel, starting defensive end Randy Starks, and recuperating tackle Paul Soliai will fill in Ferguson’s spot.  Miami’s rush defense has been a strength this season and will be tested now.

The Dolphins face Buffalo this week with the chance to move above .500 for the first time all season and set up a potential battle for first place in the AFC East in Miami in Week Thirteen.

  1. Sad news, right when things start rolling the injury bug bites. My guess this is the last we will see of JF and he will retire, such a shame when a career ends this way.

  2. As much as I love the NFL, injuries really affect the quality of play from year to year. MIA – No injuries in 2008, 2009…..ugh.

  3. ditto, ebr362. bad way to end a good career.
ferg was a very good player, we will definitely miss him. it just gets harder and harder this year for the fins.
hey, we lost the starting qb, starting db, starting rb, and we’re still at .500. things could be worse.

  4. Gee, we lost several games but just a few points – we gave New England and the Saints a run for their money. Imagine if we were all healthy?

  5. FinFan, if you want to discount injuries then you’d have to concede last year’s division title and embarrassing playoff loss:
Pats with Brady = no hope for phins

  6. Interesting NFL factoid:
It was Ferguson getting hurt in the very first defensive series of the 2007 season – with this exact same kind of injury – that led to the Cowboys sticking 7th round pick Jay Ratliff in the middle and saying to him, ‘Sink or Swim, kid!’

  7. We were due for injuries. I predicted the Pennington injury before the season. But Ronnie Brown hurt. And know this. I just hope our O-line is ready to go against Buffalo
