LaRon Landry calls Roy Williams scared

Roy Williams short-armed so many passes against the Redskins Sunday, Fox actually ran a lowlights package of his afternoon.  (That’s more embarrassing than getting pantsed.)

Lurking in the foreground of Williams’ weak efforts was Redskins safety LaRon Landry.  Asked what he thought about Williams by the Redskins’ official team blog, Landry said the Cowboys receiver looked “scared.”

“Yeah. I know he was. Y’all can quote it,
too,” Landry said Monday.  “Y’all can tell him right now, tell him I’m sayin’ it. I can say it
right now: yeah, he was scared, I think. I told him he was scared.”

Williams’ reaction to Landry wasn’t shocking.  He had none.  He didn’t have any catches in the game either.  Cowboys offensive coordinator may not want to bother sending Williams over the middle any more.

“Certain routes he ran, you could tell he didn’t want any part of it,” Landry said.

Roy still has cracked ribs from the hit a few weeks ago. I’d be hesitant to raise my arms too.
That said, pay me millions and I’ll do what it takes to make sure my job is done correctly. (heck, pay me $250k and I’ll get it done correctly).

I’m posting this here because I know Vox will rear his ugly face in the direction of an inflammatory post concerning the Cowboys. In another thread, Vox provided me the opportunity to prove him wrong, and if I did, he would turn in his PFT posting credentials. Click the link and scroll down to my comment, it should be around #50. To all those who also had the misfortune of encountering this internet asshole: You’re welcome.

I’m a Redskins fan, but seriously…Landry needs to keep his mouth shut. Did the Redskins win the game? No. Does Landry sometimes shy away from contact? Yes.
Note to the whole Redskins team: Do your talking after you’ve done something on the field.

  4. ggraham15 says: Nov 23, 2009 2:34 PM

Landry was all over the field yesterday, if he plays like he did yesterday more often, roy wont be the only receiver playing scared

Roy Williams has no heart? This is news to anyone!?!
After being tutored his rookie year in training camp by Billy ‘Gator Arms’ Shroeder, Roy has emulated his mentor by being able to hear footsteps with his eyes closed.

Oh, and you got run over by Brandon Jacobs.

  8. Lowes_Islander says: Nov 23, 2009 2:39 PM

The Cowboys need to do what they did to TO – just cut him and take the cap hit. However, that would mean that JJ would have to admit failure, which he would never do.
P.S. Send Nick Folk with him
    P.S.S. Landry, your team sucks

  9. Samuel L. Bronkowitz says: Nov 23, 2009 2:42 PM

Roy Williams will not risk his career catching imperfectly thrown balls. Once he gets the respect due a number 1 receiver along with perfectly placed passes, then and only then will he make catches and show what a superior receiver he is…

What a great move by the Cowboys. Giving up how many draft picks for Roy Williams??? Again, Jerry Jones is a genious. LMAO.

How about Tony Romo learn how to throw the damn football again. It’s not like Roy isn’t gtting open. He is open a lot, but Romo never puts the ball on him. I blame Romo totally for the bad numbers, not Roy.
This whole offense is falling apart. He’s holding onto the ball way too long and he’s making terrible decisions. Lucky the Cowboys aren’t playing the Lions on Thanksgiving….LOL

  13. JimmySmith says: Nov 23, 2009 2:51 PM

Can someone please remind me of how much the Cowgirls traded away for this guy? #1 Receiver? Vox is the #1 receiver for the Cowboys but that on the receiving end of some things I don’t like to think about.

    Fact: Redskins are 3-7
LeRon or whatever the crap his name is should just his fool mouth when his team not only loses but also has a horrific losing record. When your ranked about #27 in a league with 32 teams, you should just shut the #$@# up and figure out whats wrong with your team. Any Redskin fans should do the same thing…just shut up…
you lost, your in the bottom 5 of the NFL…you’ll be lucky to win even one more game for the rest of the season…..thats all that needs to be said……

I am a Dallas Cowboy fan (who isn’t, really? Even iggles “fans” wish they lived in Big D”, because the iggles suck) and a couple of weeks ago I saw Roy “Bust” Williams short-arm a pass over the middle with no one even close. He really is playing scared, no doubt. I don’t know how you break a player from that, once fear creeps in. I know his ribs are sore as hell, and I’d short arm a pass or two myself with damaged ribe, but R Williams plays like he’s scared to death. No balls. He can’t catch ‘em cuz he ain’t got ‘em.

  20. Bill In DC says: Nov 23, 2009 3:17 PM

Loser talk. Redskins have to be the most arrogant losing team in NFL history. Every game they talk like they won. It’s amazing to me.

  21. Rickah99 says: Nov 23, 2009 3:34 PM

Vox is a delusional man-child that believes his beloved Dallas Cowboys can do no wrong or have been far from mediocre over the last decade. It’s why he threw up the pointless pass attempt stat a few weeks ago when his team was in a tailspin. Basically Dallas Cowboy fan can only say one thing today: A win is a win! That’s it. They barely beat a horrible 3-6 team, and have been just as pedestrian against other sub 500 teams(Tampa & KC)!
Just so I understand…Dallas goes 1-1 in the last 2 games and only scores 2 td’s. Oh yeah…great things are afoot in Dallas.
Rom-O-Choke was brilliant yesterday! Yeah, keep sipping the Kool-Aid Dallas Cowboy fan! December is not a good month for your ballclub! Looking forward to the Week 17 match up…I’m sure Dallas will be 8-7 at that point and Philly will slam the door on them a 2nd straight year!
Enjoy the Oakland game…it’s the last cupcake on your schedule!

  23. WetHog says: Nov 23, 2009 3:37 PM

Well they should of won that game yesterday. The Crackboys stole one. But yes Landry needs to STFU. He runs his mouth on the field as well and he’s gonna get a penalty because of it.
That being said, yes Landry has been run over by folk like Brandon Jacobs, but the guy keeps sticking his body in there doesn’t he? Unlike Crackboy Roy, Landry is dumb but he isn’t scared. I just hope the Skins draft a real free safety so Landry can move back to his proper position of SS and play more at the line of scrimage.
And for the Crackboys fans that say us Skins fans can’t talk because our team sucks, the Skins have at least won a playoff team this decade so we can yap all we want. Can the same be said for the Crackboys? Didn’t think so.

  24. shafetpnboys says: Nov 23, 2009 3:38 PM

Cowboys should get rid of Roy and Wade on the same day at the same time.
Wade totally sucks as a ahead coach and I dont see why Roy is even getting playing time.
If they cannot cut him, then move him to the practice squad… maybe practice would help — But I doubt anything would help!!

the better idea would be to just bench him. austin has already bypassed him and crayton is just as good as williams.
williams has long had alligator arms. it isnt a new thing. jones overpaid for a diva in training. he doesnt have gator arms solely because of his current rib situation. he doesnt have the guts to go over the middle. he never has.
and he is far from the only wideout in the league with gator arms.
dallas should have pasted the skins. they were lucky to get out with a win due to playing that diva so prominently.

I don’t want to be confused for a VOX supporter, but that is not what he was saying. Although poorly worded, he was saying Romo is 62 passes away from being considered in the all-time record book for stats such as yards per attempt. You see, you have to at least make a certain number of attempts in order to be considered. I will take up for someone if they are right.

Could you please read the whole article before commenting. This was a secondary puff piece from the original article.
Before all of this, ‘Williams is scared’ stuff, Landry said, “…But the bigger picture is we lost. I don’t give a [darn] how I played, how the defense, offense, special teams did. At the end of the day, we lost. And no matter how we played, it wasn’t good enough.”
He knows they lost, he admitted it. He said that’s the big picture. So stop saying how he should look at the scoreboard, and read the article before commenting.

romo is like 3000+ attempts short of aikman’s pass attempts record (which i agree is a meaningless stat)…no chance thats what Vox was talking about…i believe he was referring to romo’s qb rating (of course i could be wrong since he didn’t specify) which is up there with the greatest the game has seen thus far in his career…official all time stats have certain requirements ie..games played, innings pitched or in this case pass attempts…did you honestly think he had more attempts in 55 games than aikman did in 165 or were you just trying to outwit someone and failed miserably?

Since College he has been known not to go over the middle. He is a north and south guy that runs half speed over the middle and wont go for the catch.
Im an Eagles fan and my father and brother are cowboy fans and I have been telling them this since week 6 of last season. We live in Jersey so they dont get to see them play alot, but they did yesterday and its safe to say they deffently believe me now.

I mean Leron was a FIRST rouns pick and yesterday was maybe his best game so until he can do it week and week out SHUT UP….just because your brother brings it in Baltimore doesn’t mean your good. Talk about how your team again failed to score a touchdown and how when it matter and was there for the taking ROMO ran on 3rd and 2 to keep a drive alive and then avoided a sack and threw a dart to win the game…

Yeah, I’m well aware of the Herschel Walker trade, but to the best of my knowledge, Roy Williams has never been a member of the Vikings organization. I’m still not quite sure how it is exactly that Minnesota is getting revenge against Dallas for a trade the Lions made.

LaRon Landry is at his best when he’s leaving his feet to deliver a helmet-to-helmet on an unsuspecting player. That or diving at WR’s knees after the whistle.
He’s basically Sean Taylor without the talent, intelligence, leadership and toughness.
If he thinks he had anything to do with Roy Williams’ suckage, than he is greatly delusional and should be examined for post-concussion syndrome. Williams drops and short arms stuff regardless of the traffic around him.
Roy Williams sucks and isn’t worth a 5th rounder but he sucks on a 7-3 team. Landry is a bust of a high-round pick and he plays on a losing team. Let us not forget perspective.

The cowgirls haven’t won a playoff game in at least 10 years and they are so very Overrated..Also Haynesworth was out, 3 starting Olineman, 1 starting FS, 1 RB didnt play against the cowgirls. Barber and Jones got all those yards cause of Haynesworth being out. Yes I know the cowgirls have 1 Olineman out and CB..But 2 Skins starting Olineman are on IR, and now another Olineman and string 2: RB..So don’t talk about the Redskins organizationis “unprofessional, calling others names, and “cheap QB’s.” The Skins outplayed your cowgirls yesterday yet there were errors in calls.

“i love the way the skins talk crap after a lose..talk about a loser mentality…how about making a play on defense for once when it counts…”
They held em scoreless for 57 minutes mullethead. That defines excellent defense. Oh and the Skins pass D is top 5 right along with their overall D going up thanks to your juggernaught offense doing their best to lay a goose egg. At least as a Skins fan I can take solace in the fact that the Redskins were playing with 3rd and 4th string RB’s, no Cooley, a mash unit of an offensive line that lost a 3rd stringer to a broken leg, no Haynesworth, and still almost beat your “stellar” team.
The Redskins suck donkey balls on Offense yet their O still played dead even if not better than yours did all game. That says a hell of a lot more about the crappiness that Dallas fields as a squad than it does Washington. We all knew the Redskins sucked on O and we all knew JC was average at best but we’ve been hearing you mental midget Puke fans telling us how all world Romo and Co are but they crap the bed when it matters time and time again. Talk about an overrated bunch of chokers!
The Redskins have arguably the worst GM in the business (although Jerrah does his best to win that award annually) and have starters on their O line that wouldn’t even make most squads yet your amazing team was lucky (that’s right chump LUCKY…as in a kicker who’s 13 of 13 and money inside 45 missing a 39 yarder) to beat them and took an entire game to score anything at all.
Oh and Roy Williams makes the two rookies Washington has -who can’t do a damn thing- look promising.

It’s hard to say really, the Eagirls are far from a good test. Their defense doesn’t play smart and can only get pressure by blitzing the house. Their DBs aren’t good enough to cover for that constant blitz. Their offense is one-dimensional. Take away the big play and they have nothing.

talk with u next yr skins and it is going to b years before u r competitive.”
Years before we are competitive? Didn’t Dallas take 57 minutes to score against the redskins? The Redskins missed two field goals. The Redskins offensive line is about atrocious as they come. Campbell passed for his 3rd most yards this season against that Dallas defense. 6-7 score but still years from being competitive? A -32 point differential over 10 games equates to losing every week by 3.2 points. Given all the offensive problems especially at offensive line I’d say our team is still pretty damn competitive.
P.S. Do me a favor and learn to properly write/type the English language.

    1. Skins D is rank top 5 in passing and overall 2. 3 starting Olineman are out, 2 that are on IR, Portis isnt done its cause the line is shitty this season. In the NFL now, teams need 2 RB’s. Therefore it needs to be Portis and a change of pace back and maybe another back. Also how the hell can you say Haynesworth would get pushed around, he’s 350 lbs. like a serious, wow…

Because that’s all that’s ever happened when Haynesworth has played the Cowboys. Why do you think that he stomped Gurode? Because he got pissed off about eating pancakes all game. Did you check out his stat line for the day? He had three tackles, Cowboys had 217 yards rushing with JULIUS JONES leading the way with 122. In the game before that he had one tackle as Quincy Freaking Carter ran up a 120+ passer rating against the Titans.

I live in the DFW area, am a huge Longhorns fan, and also favor the Cowboys. I wish I could say that Roy Williams was a good find, and I truly wish the guy well.
BUT, the truth is Roy Williams is a bust, and is finished in the NFL. I didn’t have to read Laron Landry’s comments to know that Roy is scared, all I had to do was watch him play. Roy took too many hits in Detroit. Once you’re afraid of getting hit, you’re done. Put a fork in the guy.
Roy, call it a career and see if you can get a booth job somewhere. Impersonating a football player will just continue your embarrassing decline.

But as for the article. Roy is terrible, plain and simple. And their offensive woes recently seem to stem from the fact it looks like TO part 2. they seem to be trying to force the ball to this at best #3 receiver on ANY team.
Jerry should just admit he made a mistake and punt butterfingers2.And yea, I know he won’t during the season, but I can see it soon.
And as for Landry. Big talk after a loss. That guy makes Dieon Sander look like a capable and willing tackler. Which in essence leads to knowing what a big bag of suck Roy Williams is. If you are scared of Laron Pansy, it is hopeless.

  80. danielcp0303 says: Nov 23, 2009 7:58 PM

The only way Jerry Jones could have let go T.O. was to find a replacement. If he hadn’t traded for Williams and just let Owens go, it wouldn’t have been smart. Now without Owens the Cowboys are doing alot better and Williams has had some good games this year. He was really good against the Bucs and made a big impact in the Eagles game. No he isn’t a number 1, but the Cowboys have more weapons than most teams…he doesn’t need to be a number 1.

“At least as a Skins fan I can take solace in the fact that the Redskins were playing with 3rd and 4th string RB’s, no Cooley, a mash unit of an offensive line that lost a 3rd stringer to a broken leg, no Haynesworth, and still almost beat your “stellar” team.”
I think the Deadskins may need a new strength and conditioning coach. But seriously, that all makes you feel better about your 3-7 team? I bet the off-season can’t get here fast enough for you so you can start talking about how the Deadskins are Super Bowl bound again.

Actually he is the #1 WR on the Cowboys, as in the “X” receiver in the scheme. As in the “XYZ” WR designation. That’s the role he plays. N00bs that base this on catches and yards don’t understand how NFL offenses work. It has nothing to do with stats, has everything to do with strategy. Routes, read progressions.
Remember that long catch-and-run that Alvin Harper came up with on a slant against the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game years ago? He (the Y receiver) and Irvin (the X) switched sides for that play. Harper ran the X route and was first read.

I dont know how you can say that Haynesworth doesnt do anything when clearly every announcer in the 10 games the Skins have played has said that Haynesworth in the lineup is a HUGE factor. The cowgirls wouldn’t be able to do too much w/the running game, and we would have gotten even more paces on romo. Just cause Betts has played well for 2 1/2 games doesn’t mean he and Portis or even Portis and Cartwright couldn’t do something, but the Oline has been shuffling around. The Oline has had 1 solid game thats it.

I think the Deadskins may need a new strength and conditioning coach. But seriously, that all makes you feel better about your 3-7 team?”
Sure it does considering how clueless my team’s owner seems to be. At least my team isn’t stacked with talent (supposedly) and touted by me and my mutual fans as something that’s going to roll the division/conference only to watch it crash and burn once again. Yea I can take solace in the fact that your team was LUCKY to beat mine when mine was so significantly short handed, and playing on the road. My team’s supposed to suck, your’s is supposed to kick ass but all evidence points to yours sucking just as much ass as mine, and very likely going down when the game is at Fed Ex. The Skins will have guys like Haynesworth and Portis and some other injuries back by then. Who knows maybe we can spoil your playoff chances once again, that’s enough for me at this point, I sure as hell know your team isn’t going anywhere. The Saints or Vikings will absolutely crush them if the Cowboys even make the playoffs.
“I bet the off-season can’t get here fast enough for you so you can start talking about how the Deadskins are Super Bowl bound again.”
Nope, try again, projection never has worked with me Lightweight. You’re the one who talks big smack about your team in the offseason only to watch them underachieve and crash and burn every year. I tend to be a skeptic with Vinny on board and no attention to lines, but I’ve had more post season happiness than you have since Snyder took over. I know facts aren’t always your friend but that’s one you need to face. Your owner is merely the other side of the same coin as mine, they both flat out suck, think way too much of themselves and need to hire football guys, pay the bills and stay the f%$# out of the football side of things.
“The Redskins suck donkey balls on Offense yet their O still played dead even if not better than yours did all game.”
I must have missed the touchdown they scored. I’m sure you didn’t miss the TD that the Cowboys scored. It was the game-winner.
You must have missed the two field goals (that would be 4 scoring drive to your two if I also give you credit for the missed FG) the Skins missed though as well as the two dropped interceptions. You also must have missed the total passing yards and QB rating put up by Campbell compared to Romo. The Skins pass O has been arguably the worst in the league and continued on Sunday yet your boy Romo wasn’t able to outdo and actually played worse for most of the game and going back into the last game as well. He should have had 4 INT’s!
    “Excellent defense or inept offense?”
Both for the Redskins, I can guarantee none of your team’s O is proud of barely out scoring an O that was on it’s 3rd string Rb, 3rd and 4th string linemen at 3 positions and 2 others that probably wouldn’t make anyone’s top 10 list for their positions. If I were a Dallas fan I’d be downright depressed, (like my next door neighbor who wouldn’t even come out on Sunday night) knowing that once again there’s been lots of hype but very little substance.
“‘That says a hell of a lot more about the crappiness that Dallas fields as a squad than it does Washington.’
7-3 and 3-7 says all that needs to be said about those two teams in relation to each other. What does it feel like to know that you won’t be making the playoffs before Thanksgiving even gets here?”
The fact that your team was lucky to beat that 3-7 team, has to play them in their joint again along with several other tough games, is historically prone to choking in December and isn’t going to do a damn thing once again this year after Super Bowl smack talk is enough to make me feel just fine. How’s it feel knowing that your jacked up overrated squad of chokers will be sitting at home watching the first round just like mine will huh Cletus? Gotta love Phillips, average enough to bet on!
“‘We all knew the Redskins sucked on O and we all knew JC was average at best but we’ve been hearing you mental midget Puke fans telling us how all world Romo and Co are but they crap the bed when it matters time and time again.’
Seems like they came through when it mattered yesterday. Against what you say is an “excellent defense”.”
1 score….1, held scoreless for 57 minutes, got lucky the opposing team dropped sure interceptions and missed normally made field goals. 3 catches for WR’s that were supposed to torch Washington, none until the last drive. That aint clutch Roxy, that’s textbook weak. Your O didn’t win that game, the Redskins’ own offensive ineptitude did em in. If you wanna hang your hat on that offensive performance knock yourself out. But the apparent glee of Jimmy Johnson at Dallas’ front office hilarity is all ya need to see to know your team is just as sick and infected as mine is. The difference is clowns like you haven’t faced that reality and will continue to enable Jerrah with support a lot longer than a Redskins fanbase that has even made the most ardent homers face reality; the GM’s got to go and the owner needs to butt out.
“‘The Redskins have arguably the worst GM in the business (although Jerrah does his best to win that award annually) and have starters on their O line that wouldn’t even make most squads yet your amazing team was lucky (that’s right chump LUCKY…as in a kicker who’s 13 of 13 and money inside 45 missing a 39 yarder)’

Ahhh can’t have it both ways…either numbers speak for themselves (3-7 vs 7-3 you referenced previously) or they don’t 13/13 is 100% slappy and was leading the league. He has sucked before but so did Akers at one point. Kickers often improve…big stretch with a technique position, right Roxy?

The Cowboys don’t have weapons. There is a perception that they have weapons but actually they have a collection of average skill players who are broadcast nationally almost every week. Romo is an average quarterback throwing to average receivers and an average TE. If you want to challenge that just look at their production. Guys like Chris Berman will rave about Jason Witten and the dude has 1 TD and there are 10 other TE’s with more yardage. So who really has a problem with Roy Williams or anyone on this team being called out? No one on that team is untouchable. The playoffs consist of 12 teams and all but maybe 1 team will have a winning record and the Cowboys are 2-3 against winning teams…pretty average.
