Michael Oher had a good weekend

For the first time all year, Colts defensive ends Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis did not record a sack Sunday against the Ravens.  They didn’t even get a tackle.

Left tackle Jared Gaither and right tackle Michael Oher kept Joe Flacco’s pocket remarkably clean during his 35 attempts.  (Baltimore’s receivers still struggled to get separation and the Colts created some pressure with blitzes.)

“We needed all the help we could get against some great players,” Oher said. “I owe all the credit to the offensive line and the backs and
the offensive coordinator for coming up with the scheme.”

The performance came in a losing effort, which takes some shine off the outing.  So does Baltimore’s inability to push the Colts back for one yard on the goal line three times early in the fourth quarter.

Gaither and Oher shared credit after the game, but there is one big difference between the two players. Gaither didn’t have a major motion picture about his life story open this weekend.

Oher probably doesn’t care how it did, but The Blind Side starring Sandra Bullock crushed expectations by earning an impressive $34.5 million at the box office this weekend, the best open of Bullock’s career.

We smell franchise.  Blind Side 2 — The Hotel: The untold story of Flozell Adams.

How about Blindside 3: McKinnie pounds a bouncer along side the head with a metal pipe.

After reading the book, I saw the movie opening night and I thought it was great (which is a rarity when seeing a movie after reading the book) . If you want more of the football side of it, read the book. The movie does a good job of relating the story, though.
After knowing what he went through, it’s impossible not to root for Oher.

I saw the movie Saturday and caught the Ravens game yesterday, keeping an eye on Oher. I was very impressed the way he blew Mathis off the ball. He is quite a talent.

Except the plot is different. In this story his family actually kicks him out because he’s such a thug and a jerk. He vows to prove them all wrong by winning a playoff game. Unfortunately he ends up in Dallas. And the rest is history…

T.O. and Teague battle it out on the 50 yard line at Cowboy stadium (get it.. STAR wars??? get it??)
I hear Rex Ryan makes a cameo appearance as Jabba the Hut!!! NO MAKE-UP REQUIRED!!!
Out of pity, Roy Williams was thrown a bit-part in the flick… but he dropped that too!!
Miles Austin plays the Phantom Menace. He’s a menace in single coverage agaisnt a nickel back, and a Phantom the other 99.9% of the time!!

I am getting really sick of hearing about Oher. Its a nice story but their are plenty of NFL players with similar stories. He hasn’t even been that good, I know there aren’t any stats for O-Line guys to prove (or disprove) his ability but in my limited time seeing him I have seen some very untimely penalties, as well as making some big mistakes when pulling on a run. I don’t think he is a bad NFL player and will probably go on to be a consistent blocker but nothing he has done out side of be poor and get Sandra Bullock to play your adoptive mom warrants him getting this much hype. Patrick Willis gets less hype with a much more depressing life story and much better play. I’m sure several people will comment telling me I’m a jerk, or he’s a hero. Thats fine but I know I’m not the only person who is sick of hearing so much about this guy.

Percy Harvin may be odds on favorite for Rookie of the Year. Which offensive lineman will get the most rookie votes based on his ’09 play?
    Michael Oher
    Sebastien Vollmer
    Phil Loadholt
    Other

Thanks for the reviews guys. I’ll suck up my intense dislike of Sandra Bullock and see it.

    @Lost
Good name. OL getting votes in OROY? Good luck. If you want my opinion on who has played better, it’s between Oher and Vollmer. Vollmer has been much better against the run than the pass though. Vollmer easily gets from level to level in his run blocking. He has done respectable (although not on his own) against some solid pass rushers (granted, Joey Porter is no longer elite).
I haven’t seen much of Oher though.
I’d have to vote Oher just because he’s beaten mullet boy and mathis.

it was a GREAT movie, and even though i’m not a Ravens fan, it’s hard not to root for Micheal Oher
