QB Jason Campbell was intercepted by Cowboys LB Anthony Spencer with under two minutes to play to assure a 7-6 Redskins loss.
Said Campbell after the Redskins fell to 3-7, "Other than a couple of plays, we pretty much beat them. It's
been a crazy season. We keep losing one player after another."
On the game's crucial play, Redskins LB Brian Orakpo nearly sacked Cowboys QB Tony Romo before Romo delivered a touchdown pass.
Redskins K Shaun Suisham missed a pair of field goals, the first two kicks he's missed all season.
Redskins RB Rock Cartwright, thrust into a featured role by injuries to Ladell Betts and Clinton Portis, ran 13 times for 67 yards and added seven catches for 73 yards.
Romo needed a pain-killing shot to his back after throwing for 158 yards, his lowest career total in a Cowboys victory.
Cowboys S Alan Ball and T Doug Free each performed well in their first NFL starts.
The Cowboys defense has struggled to stop opponents late this season, but they were able to do it on Sunday.
Said Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, "A couple of
turnovers got us. Third-down stuff got us. But I think the guys did a
good job of banging away, and eventually they found a way to help us
win the ballgame. But we have to improve."
Randy Galloway of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram doesn't think the Cowboys are going anywhere with their offense.

"Other than a couple of plays, we pretty much beat them."
Don't you hate when that happens?
"On the game's crucial play, Redskins LB Brian Orakpo nearly sacked Cowboys QB Tony Romo before Romo delivered a touchdown pass."
That, too.
"Cowboys S Alan Ball and T Doug Free each performed well in their first NFL starts."
It's called "depth", Eagirl fans.
Jason Garrett is a very, very poor man's Sean Payton.
other than a few plays we beat the giants, broncos, and packers...I blame 2 of those 3 losses on Garrett's uncreative play-calling and one the other on the refs.

You sound like some of the Redskin fans around here. The Skins lost yesterday and the Cowboys lost to the giants, broncos, and packers. They need to improve if they want to go anywhere, or even make, the playoffs.
"Romo needed a pain-killing shot to his back after throwing for 158 yards, his lowest career total in a Cowboys victory. "
Coincidentally people watching this game also needed a pain-killing shot.

You're talking about a division leader. If everything stays the same for the rest of the season, they'll be in the playoffs. You should be talking that crap to the Eagirls and Giants fans.
Vox, do you seriously believe they will be a division leader if they keep playing like yesterday? The defense did great - against a lousy team. The offense appears to have forgotten how to play the game.
The bias is showing again: "Romo needed a pain-killing shot to his back after throwing for 158 yards, his lowest career total in a Cowboys victory. "
Nice way to imply it was the normal work of a tragically slow game that necessitated a shot for back pain, when in fact, it was the vicious hit he took while making a tackle that caused the back pain. Could've given him props for soldiering up and making a tackle that a lot of QBs wouldn't have, but it feeds our neuroses better to imply he's a sissy.
Way to be classy journalists, boys.
Maybe... but it will be a division leader that is 1 and done in the playoffs.. AGAIN...
overkil2,
I've been a 'Boys fan all my life .. through the good years, the great years, the terrible years, and the "what the f%#k is going on" years, and I agree with you. The 'Boys *may* win the division (though their December schedule is brutal, and we all know they can't seem to play a cream puff December schedule), but they don't seem to have the fire / passion to go all in and see what happens.
I *still* think it's a coaching problem. Players tend to mimic the emotion of the coach, and ours doesn't seem to have any. For Philips, coaching is a job ... Look at Cowher ... Coaching is a freaking way of life for him. That guy gets it done.
The NFC East stinks this year.
When you look at the Cowboys schedule you can understand them missing the playoffs.
@Giants
Chargers
@Saints
A rematch in Washington D.C.
Eagles.
They also lose the tiebreaker to the Packers in the Wild Card race.
For the Cowboys it is the calm before the storm.
@FBGeek77
Actually it is an owner problem. I can appreciate the passion he has, but at some point you have to hire good people and let them do the football stuff.
I used to be a Cowboys fan back in the Dorsett era but ever since this bozo took over as owner, it's just rubbed me the wrong way.
What if Jerry and Jimmie could have coexisted? It would have been scary to see how many titles they would have had.
Jerry is going to be Al Davis version 2.0
Savor it now, things are about to get nasty in Big D.
"Vox, do you seriously believe they will be a division leader if they keep playing like yesterday?"
Sure, so long as everybody else keep playing like they've been playing. Oh but wait, I forgot that the Cowboys exist in a vacuum and we can only talk about "what if's " as they pertain to them.
"They also lose the tiebreaker to the Packers in the Wild Card race. "
The Cowboys and Packers will not end up with the same record.
"Actually it is an owner problem. I can appreciate the passion he has, but at some point you have to hire good people and let them do the football stuff."
What a crappy owner, leading the division like that. Jerry Jones is the best team owner in the NFCE and the only one that comes close is Mara.
"I used to be a Cowboys fan back in the Dorsett era"
Used to be? Then you never were a real fan. Just another bandwagon rider.
I don't care about the close score, a win is a win. People tend to forget Washington, despite it's record, has one of the top defenses in the league and indeed, the # 1 ranked pass defense. yet Romo went 7 for 7 passes with a TD for the win when it counted.
So they won ugly.. but they won.
Yea the Offense will need more than that, and they will definitely have to mix it more. Garrett seems to go too heavy either way. It seems to either be all run or all pass. Gotta do better on the play calling.and QUIT trying to force the ball to butterfinger Williams!! THAT is what is causing a lot of the problem, trying to pacify another crybaby.
And as for Romo needing a shot. Any other QB would be called tough and gritty. But you guys gotta act like he needed a pain shot after a tough game, he's a sissy. Go take a knee to the back and try to do your jobs.
I bet most of you call in sick at your jobs several times a year with a tummy ache.
