Bucs extend Greg Olson's deal

Greg Olson became offensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in September, after the team abruptly fired Jeff Jagodzinkski.

Now, a day after the Bucs abruptly dumped defensive coordinator Jim Bates, Olson is getting a new deal.

According to PewterReport.com, the Bucs have extended Olson’s contract by at least a year.  Previously, Olseon was signed through 2009.  Per the report, he is under contract through at least 2010.

The move could be aimed at creating some sense of stability for a coaching staff that some might perceive as coming apart at the seams.  The extension of Olson also suggests that coach Raheem Morris isn’t in any real jeopardy of being one-and-done on the job.

Olson was promoted to offensive coordinator from quarterbacks coach after Jagodzinski was fired.

It’s unclear whether the Bucs are actually any better under Olson, given that they’ve won only one game all year.

What the hell is going on there? I don’t see any sensibility to the chaos going on there.

Yes he’s doing a bang up job … hey guys I’m a urologist from Ohio but do ya have an opening for a linebacker’s coach … secondary maybe ???

What a frakin joke the Bucs have become. Glazers milking that franchise high and dry. Looks like the Raiders, Lions, Browns, and Rams can welcone the Bucs at the bottom of the heap for years to come.

Remember the Buc’s signed Chris Simms after his spleen injury to a two year contract?…I think this is the way the Buc’s ownership (Glazer’s) show respect for the men who work for them and are not quitters.

Good move. Don’t mess with success. Lock in these guys for the long term.

First of all they have rethink the contract signed for Raheem Morris. I don’t see him keeping the job for long. Whats the need for extending OC if the coach’s job is not stable.

Sounds like they have a long term plan they are executing. Right!

Just get our defense back. We went years as a 1-sided team and faired pretty well. Offense is NOT the problem. Draft and free agents should center around the defense. Bucs will be fine. Take our lumps now and move on.DEFENSE……DEFENSE……DEFENSE……..

The draft may be our only chance to get back in the game. Let’s hope the Glazers can come up with the cash to sign some talent this team needs to start winning again. Better be a lot of defensive picks. Monty, we miss you !

Unbelievable. What was the rush? It wasn’t like Olson was going to be snapped up by another team.
29th in total offense. 27th in passing offense. 23rd in rushing offense. 27th in scoring offense.
Now, if the team showed improvement the rest of the season, maybe this makes sense.
    But at this stage? Unbelievable.

Oh Tampa 2,Oh Tampa 2, Monte Kiffen we miss you. GO BUCS ,RAH RAH RAH ,HA HA HA ,BOO HOO HOO!

Yeah, good thing the Glazers locked him down. With this offense, it is clear that some other team was going to snap up Greg Olson right after the last game. I guess an extension for Raheem is next. The person that deserves an extension is the head of season ticket sales because that is the toughest job on the team.

Actually, I think this is a really solid move. It solidifies confidence in the current staff, AND it ensures that Freeman will get to develop in one system rather than having to learn a new one each season and never mastering it.

“The move could be aimed at…”
“The extension of Olson also suggests…”
This is the hard hitting, in depth analysis that PFT is becoming known for.
“It’s unclear whether the Bucs are actually any better under Olson, given that they’ve won only one game all year.”
It could be that Tampa recognizes that Olson is doing pretty good with the pieces given him: Cadillac Williams- the teams leading rusher with only 450 yards. Kellen Winslow Jr. leading the team in receptions and next closest guy (the Immortal Sammie Stroughter) has less than 1/2 that amount. Raw rookie QB Josh Freeman who has only started a few games. Yep- that deck is stacked for Olson to do so well.

This organization is all over the place. This is a bad move if they have any intention of replacing the HC. On th flip side this could be a sign that the Bucs plan on keeping the HC

    GREAT!
    More years of losing!
It will be many many years before the Bucs have another winning season. These coaches couldn’t win at the college level or even high school.
Many fans have declared not to buy season tickets any more until the Bucs put a quality team and coaching staff together and it is likely many more will chose to do the same. Who wants to throw money down a rat hole! (UGH!)
