Eagles cut Ikegwuonu

As fourth-round picks go, Eagles cornerback Jack Ikegwuonu was well known because he was part of a strange trial including a stolen Xbox (non-360 version).

He also was once thought of as a first-round talent before tearing his ACL at Wisconsin.

Ultimately, Ikegwuonu has met the same fate as many fourth-round picks before him.  The Eagles released the former Wisconsin Badger Tuesday and signed cornerback Geoffrey Pope off the Bengals practice squad.

Philly’s pass defense has not looked great in recent weeks, but it has a manageable matchup this Sunday against the Redskins.

Not looked great? Probably because they are missing both their nickel and dime corners; also, Brown has a partially torn hamstring.
Bringing in more jobbers isn’t going to help the situation. It won’t get slightly better until Hanson comes back.

I love that you mention it wasnt a 360, haha:)

Maybe the Bengals will pick himup

No sense holding onto guys that can’t play.

Mmmmm let’s see we let Studebaker go even though he now shows he definitely can play and I think Ickey can play given the chance- have a feeling this is another guy who is going to get picked up by another team and then really start showing himself to be a solid player.

If your going to talk about the Eagles pass defense not playing that great why dont you explain why. Maybe b/c the best Dime and Nickel cornerbacks in the league havent been playing? Josilio Hanson has been suspended and Ellis Hobbs has been put on IR for a neck injury. Or maybe its b/c Sheldon Brown is playing with a partially torn Hamstring? It also could be possible that Asante Samuel has been banged up for the last month. O ya and their best cover safety Quinton Demps has been injured and their second best cover safety Macho Harris has been fighting a naggin injury for a month. Dont forget their LineBackers Stewart Bradely Omar Gaither and Akeem Jordan have missed a ton of time plus Chris GoCong missed a game. The only Eagles defensive starters that havent missed time this year are Quinton Mikells Mike Patterson and Brodrick Bunkley.
I think its extemely impressive that the Eagles havent let opposing offenses put up 30 every game considering all the injuries they’ve had.

Correct me if i’m wrong greggo, but i’m pretty sure Studebaker was plucked off the practice squad.

Just another Jag to hump the opponent WRs leg until Samuel gets back.

Dude, why don’t you just start numbering your excuses? Save you a lot of key strokes.

It would b an excuse if he was explaining loses, we have still managed to b in first place for the wildcard and one game out of the division. Not excuses but truths.

Is it just me or does it seem really weird that teams keep signing guys off the Bengals practice squad? Are they really that deep or is it because of all the free press these guys got on HBO.

  14. LAEaglefan says: Nov 24, 2009 5:37 PM

Its a tribute to Sean McDermott that the Eagles defense has done as well as it has, considering all of the injuries.

  15. penguininbondage says: Nov 24, 2009 5:42 PM

Injuries suck period. I’m amazed that they are hanging in there with what is left. Not just the backs but the linebackers are pretty much crap also.

Jeez somebody call a waaaaambulance. Dry those tears, Eagirls!

  17. Beezer says: Nov 24, 2009 6:23 PM

Look at all the injuries other teams like the Panthers, Bills, Colts, and Giants have suffered through so far this season.

i think cutting jackie was discrimination cause they cant pronounce his name.

He’ll be fine. McNabb on the other hand would have missed two games if he took a shot like that. Possibly three. McNabb’s like one of those car kits they had in the 70′s. Looks like a really fast car on the outside, but underneath all that brittle fiberglass it’s a Volkswagen with a top speed of about 60mph.

    Vox,
once again your ignorance is showing. McNabb threw 4 tds on a broken ankle. Played half a season with a sports hernia. Has played half of this season with broken ribs. He has more toughness in his pinkie than Romo has in his whole body

  21. antneejay2 says: Nov 24, 2009 7:34 PM

    @ damnitall
    Wouldn’t that add keystrokes?

  22. Beezer says: Nov 24, 2009 8:04 PM

“He has more toughness in his pinkie than Romo has in his whole body.” That’s funny that Romo gets credit for playing with an injured pinkie when Eli Manning plays with a painful ankle injury and nobody gives him any credit. Or back in 2007 he separated his throwing shoulder in week one versus the Cowboys and didn’t miss a game despite the doctors telling him he would be out 4-6 weeks.

“He has more toughness in his pinkie than Romo has in his whole body”
You can tell by the frequency that he misses games.
“That’s funny that Romo gets credit for playing with an injured pinkie when Eli Manning plays with a painful ankle injury and nobody gives him any credit.”
Maybe because Manning has been hurting his team by playing injured. I don’t think it’s his ankle, though. I think it’s a heel/arch problem. Plantar fasciitis, maybe?
“Or back in 2007 he separated his throwing shoulder in week one versus the Cowboys and didn’t miss a game despite the doctors telling him he would be out 4-6 weeks.”
Played like crap then too. 10 games where his passer rating was 78.2 or below. The shoulder was just bruised, according to the Giants. Specifically a bruised AC joint. He was never in danger of missing that much time. But he did play like crap. Thank God for that D, eh? Anyway, Manning has shown a willingness to play through pain and he gets respect for that. I’d give McNabb the same props if he showed the same willingness but I think his injuries get played up sometimes, how can the guy say he’s hurting from a sports hernia when he’s dancing like Michael Jackson in the end zone? All of a sudden he’s cringing in pain and headed to IR after he throws the game-losing pick 6 to Roy L. Williams, of all people.

Let’s not start posting links, Vox, or I’ll have to link to your joke of a Myspace page again, and nobody will care about how tough any QB is, because they’ll be too busy laughing at you.
