During the Dallas Cowboys' 7-6 win over the Washington Redskins on Sunday, Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman and secondary coach Dave Campo got in each other's grills on the sideline.
The incident looked fairly heated, with both guys yelling and putting hands on each other, but Cowboys coach Wade Phillips says it was nothing out of the ordinary.
"That's normal. It happens a lot, sure," Phillips said. "And you're looking at it from one side where you don't know what's going on."
Reporters asked Phillips to explain what was, in fact, going on, but Phillips said he didn't want to go into detail at the risk of making it bigger than it was.
"There is, that's what I said," Phillips said. "I don't need to go into detail of who said what, what happened to who, all those things - he said, she said. There wasn't anything big that happened that made a difference. We worked out what we had to work out on the sideline, and that's what we normally do. And that's what happens with a lot of teams a lot of times."
Phillips is probably right that the incident is fairly minor in the grand scheme of things. After all, in 2004 Reggie Wayne shoved Peyton Manning during a heated discussion on the Colts' sideline. The two of them seem to have found a way to work pretty well together since then.
But if Phillips thinks reporters have made too much of the incident, just imagine how much bigger the incident would have been if it had happened a year ago, and if instead of Terence Newman, the player involved was Terrell Owens.

She said?
Last time I checked, Terry Glenn no longer plays for the Cowboys.

See, I like that you say that. Its ridiculous how different this incident would have been had it been a high profile player. We would of been hearing about it on ESPN and every sports talk show imaginable from sunday to sunday
Way behind on this one, PFT. Acceptable if it was still Florio in his basement, unacceptable when you're part of a billion dollar network.
It's easy to pick out those who have played the sport at some point in their lives. Some of these reporters more than likely have not. Phillips is right by not making this bigger than it really is. Those altercations happen on the sideline, in the dugout, or in the locker rooms. Good thing T.O. is someone else's problem!
Campo, another Dallas coach that never won a playoff game.
But he was remarkably consistant, compiling a stellar 5-11 record in each of his 3 seasons.

You mean HEAD coach? He has a few rings on his hands as assitant coach.
That's more contact than Newman has initiated with anyone all year.
I don't care how often it happens, it is a lack of repaect for the coach. Any I love it!
At least one of the coaches is showing some fire on the sideline, unlike Wade who always looks like he's waiting patiently for the next Hostess delivery to show up at his door. I for one was glad to see it.

And instead of Terence Newman, imagine if it was Jesus Christ. and instead of Phillips, imagine if it was the ghost of Johnny Cochran. And instead of the Dallas Cowboys, imagine if they were all in the British Parliament. Yeah, imagine how much press that would have got.
Nice Brad C.
Dont mind Quagmire...hes an ignorant piece of Fagle crap.
Seems to be expected from Fagle lovers.
Giggity.
damn got beat to tje punch on this but i was just curious who the "she" was in this little spat...
Should Campo know what getting in someone's grill is before lending full weight to this divine piece of journalistic craftsmanship? Seriously. Expect to see more emotions along this line in Big D when the December fallout comes along.....
Terrell Owens no longer plays for the Cowboys. Imagining if it had been him is pointless. What if it had been Randy White? What if Tom Landry's Ghost had popped up at the VMA's and punched Adam Lambert dead in the throat...
Imagine had it been Wade Phillips going for it on 4th and 2 in his own territory with the game on the line. See how stupid it all is?
Chunky, I don't get how stupid it all is. WHAT IF you explained it again. Ha.
Moreno - Marshall scuffle was more entertaining.
