Ryan thinks Patriots "disrespected" Jets

Not only did the New England Patriots beat the New York Jets on Sunday, but Jets head coach Rex Ryan thinks the Patriots disrespected the Jets as well.

The Patriots had the ball and a 31-14 lead with 30 seconds left, but instead of taking a knee or calling a conservative running play, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady threw deep to wide receiver Randy Moss on a third-and-6. Ryan didn’t appreciate that.

“We need to stop them anyway, so it’s no biggie, but I was surprised, and I did feel a little bit disrespected,” Ryan said.

Added Ryan, “I thought it was disrespectful at the time, but, hey, we’ve got to stop it.”

In talking about the play, Ryan also pointed out that his cornerback, Darrelle Revis, had a good game against Moss, saying he was just glad that Brady didn’t throw it to the receiver who really gave the Jets trouble on Sunday, Wes Welker.

“I looked at that as an opportunity for us,” Ryan said. “Throw it up deep, our guy is going to come down with it more than your guy is. If they want to throw it up to Revis, that’s great. If they would have thrown it up to Welker again, I would have had a problem with it.”

Ultimately, if Ryan has a problem with the Patriots whipping his team, he’d probably be wise to stop complaining about disrespect and start finding a cornerback who can play Welker as well as Revis played Moss.

    Cryin’ Ryan
They played their “Super Bowl” in Game 2… and judging by the Jets Defense, Game 11 was their “Pro Bowl.”

Listen, if Rothlisberger and Ryan don’t stop trying to steal my nickname I’m gonnna sit on them!

I’ll admit, I liked the bluster and swagger from Ryan at the beginning of the year. This whining and crying stuff has really brought him down a few pegs in my eyes. If you’re going to talk trash about Belichick’s rings and act like you won the superbowl when you beat them the first game, you’d better be man enough to eat a little crow when you lose, instead of talking about being disrespected. When did he ever do anything to earn BB’s respect? Ryan has talked trash about NE since he got the job, and now he wants respect? C’mon man!

  4. thesaint257 says: Nov 24, 2009 10:20 AM

Rex Ryan is such a tool!!!! When they first played the Pats this year, and he had phone call messages to the fans and the team was making this their Superbowl, it was all good. Then Revis come out this past week saying he handled Randy Moss without help before the game, that wasn’t any disrespect.
and now after losing games and then his quaterback the “sanchize” throwing 4 pics, he wants to complain because New England setteled it on the field.
    C’Mon man!

  5. 8man says: Nov 24, 2009 10:21 AM

No team has talked more and accomplished less.
They should be thankful that their first game against the Patriots was only Tom Brady’s second game back.
    Thanks for coming.

  6. ScottieC says: Nov 24, 2009 10:21 AM

Would this be the same Rex Ryan that marched all the former Patriots out as Captains for the game at the coin toss – TWICE? Or the one that went on and on about the Patriots in the Pre Season said he would not kiss rings?
    Seriously, welcome to the NFL.
What an idiot – it’s a rivalry for a reason you moron. You should have felt disrespected when Tom and Wes made your team look like St. Mary’s Catholic Girls School for the Blind.

  7. shinsnake says: Nov 24, 2009 10:21 AM

Yeah and Obama feels disrespected that the economy keeps running up the unemployment numbers on him long after his game is over. Doesn’t change a thing.
I know Rex Ryan isn’t all fire and brimstone about this situation and the media is playing it up for more than what it is, but it always annoyed me when coaches complained about the other guy running up the score or passing late in a decided game. You have the ability to stop them or do the same if you so choose, if you can so choose. If you don’t have the ability to stop them, is that really their fault?
But the Jets were able to stop this play so that’s probably why Ryan thought about it and doesn’t feel that disrespected. I’m guessing that Belichick noticed that Moss didn’t have a good day against Revis and wanted to pad his stats to make it seem like he had more than what he did. Or maybe MJD had Moss on his fantasy team and called in a solid with Tom Brady.

super bowl in week 2, crying the week leading up to the patriots rematch, and now the patriots disrespected the jets. what is the over under on this guys tenure with the jets? 3 years?

  9. WTE says: Nov 24, 2009 10:22 AM

Ryan is the same tub of goo who had former Patriot Kevin O’Connell serve as Team Captain during the coin flip.
For what? An attempt to “intimidate” the Patriots?
He deserves all the disrespect he gets.

  10. Steeler4life says: Nov 24, 2009 10:23 AM

This guy talks entirely too much about irrelevant stuff. He is a good defensive coach so maybe he is better suited as a coordinator. He needs to stay away from the mic.

  11. Brewster says: Nov 24, 2009 10:24 AM

Apparently Ryan has never seen the Patriots in one of their blow outs. This isn’t the first time they haven’t taken a knee when expected to.

  12. joe.attaboy says: Nov 24, 2009 10:26 AM

Jeez, what the hell did Rex expect from Bill the Genius. Dude gets off on shoving it down people’s throats, so pulling a stunt like that shouldn’t have been a surprise.
I’m thinking the Pats wanted serious payback for the first game, and I seem to recall that some Jets players were doing a lot of talking during the week.
Finally, if I had to play in the same division as a coach who cries, I’d be throwing it, too. I’d want to make him freaking weep.

  13. Krow says: Nov 24, 2009 10:26 AM

Rex needs to drop the High School antics. No one in the NFL “disrespects” anyone else. They don’t take teams lightly. They don’t look past anyone. These childish motivational ploys are really anoying.

  14. dcfan-1212450 says: Nov 24, 2009 10:26 AM

Ya well thats the Patriots, and obviously the Jets knew the Patriots could throw deep because guess what, it was covered and covered well. So why is he crying about a play they expected, defended, and prevented…

  15. Florio-is-a-tool says: Nov 24, 2009 10:27 AM

The Pregnant One should stop disrespecting other teams if he wants it in return.
He had an opportunity to show week 2 wasn’t a fluke and didn’t. But I’m guessing J-E-T-S fans still consider this guy to be some sort of half-man, half-genius: a Mangenius.

  16. hayward giablommi says: Nov 24, 2009 10:28 AM

Garbage, but wouldn’t expect anything else from the Jesters. This is just Wrecks’ lame attempt at playing the disrespect card. How interesting that the, ahem, “Super Bowl Champs” feel that an opponent shouldn’t give its best effort against the, ahem, “defending champions”.
As a Patriots fan, I feel Wrecks disrespected the Patriots and the game by calling a timeout to throw a hail mary down 17 points with no time left. I mean, how *dare* they play the game until the 60th minute…

  17. chemicalxv says: Nov 24, 2009 10:29 AM

Before all the people come in going “WAHAHAHA WHAT A CRIER” I’d just like to point out he’s right. About being disrespected, and needing to stop it (which they did, yay!).
But it’s Bill. And you’re a rival team. He’s a dick, what do you expect?

  18. Ceedub says: Nov 24, 2009 10:29 AM

I respect Rex Ryan’s ability to shoot his mouth off and shovel food into his belly. What else is there to respect, really? I can’t stand the Patriots, but I was very satisfied that they pummeled the hapless and now disrespected Jets. Very satisfied.

  19. BenRapistberger says: Nov 24, 2009 10:29 AM

oh Q f’ing Q. Go look at the game log, they were down by 17 with less than a minute to go and Sanchez was chucking garbage time bombs too.
You ran your fatass mouth all last game talking trash, and now your kleenex sniffling ass can’t deal with getting blowed out so you have to cry about it. Fat bitch, go f*** yourself.

  20. borg says: Nov 24, 2009 10:29 AM

Does classy Wrecks Cryan mention that he sent former Patriots players as game captains for the coin flip, including their 4th string QB. Second time this season Chubs Cryan “respected” the Patriots during the coin flip. This guy is clearly tailgating the impending Mangini train wreck. And for this week, Wrecks plans to motivate his team by eating 34 bags of Kettle Chips.

  23. Massappeal says: Nov 24, 2009 10:34 AM

If you multiply the stats of this game over a 16 game season, Moss would total 16 TD’s against “Mr. I did it myself”.

  24. leatherneck says: Nov 24, 2009 10:35 AM

Warning to any team going to play at New England. As you sleep in your hotel the night before the game, somebody might pull the fire alarm at your hotel, even though there is no fire. This causes you to wake up in the middle of the night, lose sleep, and come out flat.
It happened to the Bills and the Jets this year.

  26. kellyb91985 says: Nov 24, 2009 10:35 AM

REALLY? I’m sorry, I’m a Patriots homer, but seriously, you’ve got to be kidding me. This is a guy who’s called out every team they’ve played. Disrespected? this guy is a joke. The Patriots did a service to the league by sending this guy off with another loss.

  27. Pack83 says: Nov 24, 2009 10:36 AM

It was scummy…don’t give me this ‘you have to stop them garbage’. 99% of coaches today and throughout history sit on that ball. Belichick throws deep. Don’t overthink it: it’s just a cocky, classless move by a cocky, classless coach.

Let’s see, all week Revis wanted to call out Moss and claim his superiority over him. The Pats decided that when the outcome was no longer in doubt they would toss one out there for Moss and if it is completed, give the old “SHUT UP!!!” statement and “don’t mess with the big dog unless you like getting bit.”
It is the NFL. If you don’t like a reaction, don’t trash talk. If you expect kindness and pity from the opposition, go back to coaching pee-wees.

  31. shaslers says: Nov 24, 2009 10:41 AM

Rex, that wasn’t disrespect. That was a message. The message is, stop running your mouth outside the lines. Do your talking on the field of play.
Rex, I hate Belichick as much as you do, but you’re not much of a sympathetic character in all this.
I mean, really, when the bully picks on the jackass, does anyone care?

    What a stupid $hit.

  35. trickbunny says: Nov 24, 2009 10:52 AM

Maybe this is why Belichick is a Hall of Fame coach. He teaches his players to claw and scrap on every down until the final whistle blows. If that means converting a 3rd and 6 with 30 seconds left when you’re up by 17, then that’s what it means. Deal.

  36. Bell63 says: Nov 24, 2009 10:55 AM

I thought it was disrespectful that Ryan didn’t even have his team show up on Sunday.

  37. red13 says: Nov 24, 2009 10:56 AM

Instead of complaining about Brady tossing it to Moss, he should probably be trying to figure out how to get his own quarterback to quit tossing it to the other team…I’m just saying.

  38. Filbertkiwi71 says: Nov 24, 2009 10:58 AM

I hate the Patriots with a passion, but I have no problem with NE throwing the ball late. IMO, Ryan has been acting like an A#1 douche bag from day one. I was actually routing for the Patriots in this game which is something that I never do.
Ryan is creating a mouthy team that can talk a good game, but cannot play one.

Jets suck and Sanchez will be another bust, man that guy sucks.

  41. bluenoser says: Nov 24, 2009 11:09 AM

    It WAS disrespectful.
    You know why?
Because Rex and the R-A-T-S are not worthy of respect and the reality is that the Pats do not respect them.
I am glad the HC takes comfort in Revis being able to come down with it more often than Moss. That will probably save his job, right?

  42. paralax38 says: Nov 24, 2009 11:12 AM

Am I the only one who thinks taking a knee is MORE disrespectful than to keep playing? Hear me out:
Playing all out one team says to the other “I’m gonna try to score – you try to stop me”
Taking a knee says “No way you could ever stop me – I’ll take pity on you and just stop trying”
    Which one is disrespectful?
I played on a really bad team at a really small college (700 students total) – I was always more pissed when the other team stopped trying – try to score – if i can’t stop you that’s on me – don’t quit because you feel sorry for me.

  43. Bruce A says: Nov 24, 2009 11:13 AM

Rexy and the Jets were still calling timeouts and trying to get the ball back, they were still blitzing Brady, and even threw up a hail mary when they finally did get the ball back with seconds to go. Why wouldn’t the Patriots continue to run their offense?
The Patriots should’ve just handed the ball over?
    Rexy is a fraud.

Coach Whyan would be saying that his QB called an audible at the line and put it completely on him.
As for the rest of the haters out there that are saying we need a classy coach, please let me know which of the current coaches is a classy guy. They are all a bunch of egocentric, type A, win at all cost, people and that’s what is needed in today’s NFL.

  47. d-phinfan says: Nov 24, 2009 11:27 AM

  48. thehoodedone says: Nov 24, 2009 11:32 AM

Nice job by Revis shutting down Moss though. I mean, if he hadn’t of been watching Moss so close Welker migh not have been wide open all game.

  49. John from Concord says: Nov 24, 2009 11:34 AM

He’s lucky BB didn’t run it up on him. If the Pats had stayed in big-play mode rather than downshifting to the short game in the second quarter, it could have ended up something like 56-14, easy. One good cornerback does not a defense make.

Time for everybody to realize that Fat Rex is not an NFL Head Coach as he has displayed this entire season.
No Jests comments because the red headed step child fans from NY know it is over and time to start worrynig about Yankees hot stove talk.

  55. rusH1023 says: Nov 24, 2009 11:45 AM

I expect some of the fans to call BB a ‘dick’ for playing to the whistle, because they’re too ignorant or stupid to get it, but Bill preaches 60 minutes, win or lose. It’s the same as the way he answers questions in press conferences, the same as the way he teaches his team to react to wins and losses (quickly, with focus snapped right back into place), the same way he runs every aspect of his team… FINISH. It’s how he runs his football team from top to bottom. Jesus cockeyed christ, I’m so tired of the crying.

  56. pholmes says: Nov 24, 2009 11:51 AM

  57. Bill Cowher's Chin says: Nov 24, 2009 11:54 AM

    Rex Ryan’s Pres Season Agenda:
    1) Disrespect the Dolphins (defending div champ)
    2) Disrespect Belichick (3 rings with Pats, numerous div titles)
    3) Disrespect Buf-, oh wait, Buffalo sucks, skip #3
    Rex Ryan’s Regular Season Agenda
    1) Defeat Pats in week 2 SB, gloat for weeks after the win
    2) Lose to Dolphins, and then blame play calling, rather than give the Phins credit
    3) Lose to the Dolphins again, while claiming they won the game on the field, but only lost on the scoreboard
    4) Lost to the Pats, and then proclaim you were disrespected
What and the F is Rex Ryan talking about? Does he actually believe that he should be respected? When is he going to realize that respect is earned? He is ALL talk, and no action, he should feel disrespected that his team went out and laid an egg for him. He should feel disrespected that he (a defensive guru) couldnt figure out how to slow down Welker, let alone stop him…….

  58. shinsnake says: Nov 24, 2009 11:58 AM

Wow, a bunch of cry babies in an article about a cry baby. That’s some kind of irony there. And I wasn’t talking politics, I was mocking the President along with Ryan himself. You should probably pick up a few more textbooks in the future if you can’t tell the difference.
I can see why so many people aren’t lining up against Ryan on this. Not only is he wrong, but he’s been talking crap every single week and he’s been losing each time. I remember a game where Marvin Lewis basically called Ben Roethlisberger a whiner for complaining about some calls in the game. He went out and apologized for it a couple days later. What happens between coaches should stay between coaches. It’s beneath a coach to talk about this stuff. Let the media discuss whether or not it was disrespectful; there is nothing beneath them.

I am a Jets fan, and I am still here. What can I say? I can say what most of the fans are thinking: get rid of Tannenbaum, keep Rex away from a microphone, and bench Sanchez for a game to put his head back on straight. Our defensive line is suffering because of Jenkins eing out for the season, and ST is suffering ebcause Washington is out. Two cornerstones, and they are having a hard time regrouping from them beign out for the season.
I was raised a Jets fan, and now I can’t believe what occurs every season: build up, build up, crash, burn. I never fell off the bandwagon, and every freaking year I try to carry hope.

Ever try to brag to your friends how Marc Wilson or Hugh Millen are way more awesome than Dan Marino or Jim Kelly? Ever try to argue Rod Rust or Dick Macpherson were the smartest or most inovative coaches of our generation? Trust me. You don’t. You keep these things to yourself, roll with the punches, and hope next years the year your franchise gets it together. Disrespect? Horseshit. Generally speaking, when you lose the game it is best to just shut up.

LMAO, I am cracking up reading these posts. Cryin Ryan. Worlds Biggest looser. Dont talk trash and expect any respect. This is pro football not some High school league. Obviously he needs to have his team do the same, play a full sixty minutes. Dont talk disrespect. Thats what they did the first game (Brady with rust, no welker) They trashed the Pats saying that they want to embarras the Pats? huh…is that disrespect. I agree with what ScottieC posted. “Tom and Wes made your team look like St. Mary’s Catholic Girls School for the Blind.” Please no offence to the blind. Ryan is an embarrasment to the game. The Jets started off very good. But with no real coaching they have folded against good teams. Whos fault is that? The head coach. But after all the locker room material the Jets give us, what do they expect. Brady should have gone to Welker up till the end.

FootballFanatik, classy post. The ‘Skins get the same deal in the Snyder era and the methods suck all the enthusiasm from the people they should be catering to.

shamalamadingdong is 1000% correct as to why the Pats fans weren’t around during the late 80′s and early 90′s. I was getting free tix when the Pats sucked in the late 80′s and early 90′s. I’m at a game, Pats record is 1-8 or something. They are down 21-0. 30 secs remaining in the 1st half. 4th and 1 on the opponents 25 yd line. The stadium is less than half full but the fans are screaming GO!They call timeout and then send out the field goal team and kick a freaking field goal. I left the stadium and did not return until Parcells became the coach. It wasn’t worth going when I was getting the tickets for free because the coaching staff sucked.
I don’t consider any of the fans of teams in the bottom 3rd of the league “fairweather”. Those teams suck because the ownership doesn’t know what the hell they are doing. If they were running Dairy Queens I wouldn’t expect the fans to go there and eat crap so why do we expect them to watch crap or cheer on crap?

  72. texasPHINSfan says: Nov 24, 2009 1:25 PM

ryan never issues respect to his opponents – even the ones that defeated him, why would he expect it in return?

“The patsy’s disrespect everyone. That’s EXACTLY why they are so hated. That, and the fact that so many of their fans are fair weather types that only got on board after their recent run started.
I have all the respect in the world for long time fans of any team. But as for those who jump ship or go fair weather, not at all.”

Your the biggest front-runner of them all. Your Vikings get a few wins and now you’re “SuperFan”. When was the last time the Vikings won a real fuc*ing thing? You wouldn’t know as you just started taking them seriously when “Vikings Fever” struck the Twin Cities in September. Poseur. Try to stick to your normal musings on what it’s like to have Bert Favrrrre’s balls bounce of your chin like a speed-bag, otherwise you look like you’re depriving a village somewhere of an idiot. Disrespected. Douchebag.

  75. Bill Cowher's Chin says: Nov 24, 2009 1:38 PM

FootballFanatik, your point is well taken. There are lifelong fans of all teams, and they are the ones that sit back, and watch.
Then the bandwagon fills up, with blow hards. Then the team sucks, and the band wagon empties, with only the true fans remaining, having to answer for all of the trash talking that the fair weather fans were spewing. Those people know who they are, and they wouldnt have the nuts to “show their faces” so to speak, considering this is anonymous and on the internet…… I hate the Jets, but I suppose you are proof that not all members of any one fan base are douche bags……

Is this coaches whining phenomena become more prevalent, or is it just because I found this site before this season? It seems every week some coach (Mangini usually) is accusing the other team of something, and I never heard it week in and week out before.

The Jets sent 7 rushers on that play. So the Pats were supposed to stop playing on that play, but not the Jets?
I give credit to a WEEI listener for that little tidbit of information.
    7 rushers. Think about that.

  79. Jim says: Nov 24, 2009 1:55 PM

Unbelievable. Winning by 17 points is disrespectful? Give me a freaking break!!! I don’t care what team you are or how good or how bad you are playing, to quote Herm Edwards “You play to win the game!” The job of the offense is to score points, not to take pity on a team they are beating. It’s disrespectful to a team’s defense to whine and cry for mercy when they’re losing a game. Wouldn’t it be more disrespectful if a team came out after a game and said, “Yeah, we could have scored a couple more touchdowns, but we wanted to take it easy on them.”
What will it take to stop this whining? Maybe someone to beat the Patriots by 28 or more? Oh wait, that hasn’t happened for more than 6 years – including the Matt Cassel era.

  80. dsigrey says: Nov 24, 2009 2:23 PM

Rex is an idiot… He doesn’t mention that the Jet sent 7 rushers on that same play. Does this mean the Jets can play the full 60 minutes, but the Patriots should have stopped? Was McGowen’s hit dirty too?

  81. texasPHINSfan says: Nov 24, 2009 2:40 PM

maybe rex wanted the pats o-line to stop blocking for brady as well? you know, since they were up by a whole 17 points and all…

  82. Pastabelly says: Nov 24, 2009 2:50 PM

Ryan was too interested in stopping Moss that he killed his team. Why was Rhodes playing a deep zone on Moss rather than providing a shadow on Welker? I have never seen a coach get so wrapped up in these little soap operas like Ryan does and become a distraction to his team. He credits Welker for finding holes in his zone. Big deal, it’s one thing to credit the guy. It’s another to game plan him. Stop worrying about Moss. You picked your poison. Now shut the F up already.

  83. patsSB44champs says: Nov 24, 2009 3:20 PM

All you soccer moms and Little League daddies who would complain about the Pats’ tactics need to realize that maybe the Jets should not have been talking all week.

  84. djbambam says: Nov 24, 2009 6:10 PM

NFL players and coaches have to do press all week but their not supposed to talk? Maybe your panties are too tight and its affecting your hearing, what exactly was said that was so disrespectful?
With 30 secs left on 3rd down you can end the game with 1 kneel down, the jets had already stopped using their timouts the clock was running. In a game where seasons can end with one play it doesn’t make any sense to risk your players.

  85. Hovenaut says: Nov 24, 2009 6:36 PM

The saga of the NY RATS continues to the delight of the rest of the AFC East. Big mouths, lots of bragging about nothing. They should look at the Giants and try to figure out what it takes to win in this league. It is not talk but hard work and a willingness to understand your own capabilities and weakness in order to get better. The RATS love to see their quotes of bravado in the newspapers calling out players from other teams yet they want these players and coaches to respect them. What they said about the Fin’s and the Pats this year shows that the organization is rotting from the top. I feel bad for Jerico Cotchery and Thomas Jones, these guys should get to play for a real team and a coach who places actions ahead of words. Bringing in Edwards was an mistake which is par for this losing outfit. The Rats not getting respect, what else is new.

  87. SmackMyVickUp says: Nov 24, 2009 10:40 PM

Jets talk trash all week and when Pats run up the score Rexxy whines to the media.
You just can’t make this stuff up, classic.

  88. PornFlorio says: Nov 25, 2009 3:12 AM

Meanwhile, the Pats haven’t beaten ONE SINGLE TEAM with a record over .500. Can you say OVERRATED? No wonder all of you morons have to brag about beating such a pathetic team as the Jets. LMFAO!!!
