Given the unusual circumstances that have unfolded this year between linebacker Matt Roth and the Dolphins, he probably wasn’t upset to be released.
We wonder how he feels about where he has landed.
As Rosenthal pointed out in his post regarding the waiving of Roth, the Browns have made a waivers claim on Roth — and the Browns have been awarded his contract.
Even though Roth is in the final year of his four-year contract, this could be more than a one-year arrangement. If there’s not extension to the labor deal by March 2010, the Browns will be able to keep Roth’s rights via the rules of restricted free agency.
Then again, if/when coach Eric Mangini gets fired, the new regime might decide to let Roth go.
talk about getting shat on
There goes my IRA account.
They wont let him go either way. He is pretty good player, and definitely a good backup. He fits whatever scheme they will play there in the future.
Considering the Browns play with everyone else’s backups anyways…
Roth should be thankfull he has a joB! Job market is brutal
Browns signed Matt Roth????!!!!! Championship!
Wow, hopefully the Browns take full advantage of another cast off.
This should put the Browns over the top for sure, maybe the Ben-Gals will only score 40 Sunday instead of 49.
I’m sure he will be a real stand out on special teams and may even make a tackle.
Yippee!!
Roth is a stiff…………….so he and Mangini will get along just fine.
I guess the Tuna paid him back.
Poor dude
Matt Roth is the Bomb!! I’m a Dolphin fan btw. He was the Bomb at Iowa as a DE..Made the transition to OLB (Strong Side) Pretty Good. He’s decent in space and can rush the hek out the passser. He will fit in well with the Browns. Jason Taylor, Joey Porter, Cam Wake, Charlie Anderson etc–will still be a top notch rotation. Let’s go Phins!!
Florio takes his usual shot at a team he hates. How typical of Mr. Trailer Trash.
NEXT YEAR!!!

40-49 points for the Bengals? They only scored 23 against the Browns a few weeks ago. Why the hell would they double that? Maybe because they only scored 17 against the Raiders?
Now *there’s* an offensive juggernaut, folks.
this guys is a stud……. not
Is this guy any relation to Hyman Roth?
Crap. I was hoping the Packers could have nabbed him. Would have been a great drop-in replacement for Kampman.
Just don’t forget your Zoloft Matt, you’ll get through it.
He must be a “hard working , no talent” player if Manstupid picked him up.
Az-Wee-Pay, that’s one great post right there. Keep up the good work, and above all, you stay classy.

Umm, which team is that he took a shot at? The fins for letting him go? Or the Browns? It wasn’t a shot at the Browns, but at that idiot Mangini.
I love the Pats, but Bill has been horrible at picking coordinators. After Weiss and Crennel, we haven’t had great coordinators. And yet the league keeps hiring our coordinators to ruin…errr… run their teams. Josh McDaniels is being exposed for the fraud he is, and Mangini, well we all know how good he isn’t. Don’t give me any stuff about McDaniels being good because he was the OC for the Pats in 2007. Turner looked good too when he had talented players coming out of his ears. I don’t think there is an OC in the league who couldn’t have done just as well or better with the talent that team had. McDaniels was, and is, incredibly predictable and the league knows it. He refuses to change when things are going south (see his last press conference), can’t make mid game adjustments, and refuses to learn from mistakes. I haven’t watched much Denver football this year but I bet they run on 2nd and long 85% of the time. Denver had a good start to the year, but the league watches tape, and adjusts to beat them. He just doesn’t change, and they pay for it.
I haven’t seen Roth as a pro but, I do remember him at Iowa. He seemed pretty decent as a pass rusher…something the Browns have needed for quite a while.
I figure that as bad as the Browns are, it is worth the gamble, on both parties. The Brownies can’t get much worse and this could be a second chance for Roth. Time will tell.
Hopefully, Lerner will get some talent in that front office, and soon. The draft is not that far away.
Florio, Can you find out and let us know if any other teams made a waiver claim for Roth? Seeing the problems the Eagles have had staying healthy, particulary at linebacker, I wonder if they threw their hat in the ring for Roth. The Eagles deffently could have used him but their also cheap, so I wouldn’t be suprised either way.
So if you feel so inclined please post which teams made a claim other then the Browns if any for Roth.
Who’s Matt Roth???
