PFTV's Week 12 game of the week

Apparently, there are some Joe Brocato fans in PFT Planet.

With the new NBC mini-studio and the rolling out of “PFT Daily” (Wednesday’s edition coming soon), there’s been some concern that Brocato has been dumped.

He hasn’t.  At least not yet.

Here he is with yours truly from the studios of WDTV-TV, in our first PFTV segment of the week.

It’s the game of the week.  And do you need more than one guess as to which game it is?

    “badder secondary”
    Really Florio? Really?

  3. LBPACKFAN says: Nov 25, 2009 11:10 AM

    Go Saints!

  4. Postman says: Nov 25, 2009 11:13 AM

The Saints secondary will be fine. Jabari Greer will be back. He’s been having an Pro-Bowl caliber season. Malcolm Jenkins is more than able to hold down the RCB spot. Both Darren Sharper and Roman Harper are 100% healthy at the Safety positions. And the depth at CB is fine with Usama Young, Chris McAlister, and Mike McKenzie.

You may as well dump Brocato. He doesn’t really bring anything to the table and it’s pretty weird to have a CBS guy on the site now that it’s affiliated with NBC.

Yeah I like Joe, I think he does a good job. He is Bert, to Florio’s Ernie. Maybe their next video clip will be brought to you by the letter “e” and the number “1″.
I am sure as soon as Christmas vacation starts all the grade school kids will be home, and we will be seeing more and more of Rosenthal. Man that dude doesn’t’ look like he is old enough to shave, and he has that Peter Brady puberty voice going on.

Ok, here is a question for Lord Florio or anyone else out there……If the Vikings and the Saints end up with the same record, how to the tie breakers work to see who gets home field thruout the playoffs?

  8. Rex Grossman says: Nov 25, 2009 11:45 AM

The chemistry between Joe Brocato and Mike Florio is astounding. These guys just feed off each other effortlessly. “This piece of paper!”, “A turkey…”. What a one-two punch. Up there with Mike & Mike and Wilbon & Kornheiser. They must be really good friends off set because you just can’t fake stuff this perfect. Not even Trent Dilfer could.

  9. Evan2442 says: Nov 25, 2009 11:48 AM

as good as that game is, it doesnt have much bearing on the outcomes of the division/playoff implication as much as Steelers/Ravens (also perhaps the best rivalry going on in football). Plus, I have a feeling the Ravens will be wearing their black jerseys, Ravens fans get towels, and its prime time (and I will be there). Yes, I’m slightly biased.

    Steelers at Ravens?

  14. Pastabelly says: Nov 25, 2009 12:38 PM

Yeah, my vote goes to giving more time to Tiffany Simmons.
As for importance of the game, it would be an out of conference loss for the Saints. Minnesota’s loss was already to an AFC Team. I would think the next tie breaker would be record against common opponents. You then look to strength of victory and then to strength of schedule. You never know how those two will come out and it depends too much on other teams.

I looked at this a couple of weeks ago. It could come down to the fourth tie breaker which is a “Strength of Victories” tie breaker. (Wild Card Tiebreakers are used to determine home field advantage.)
First five tie breakers to determine home field advantage are as follows:
    1. Head-to-Head
    2. Conference Record
    3. Common Games (minimum of four)
    4. Strength of Victory
    5. Strength of Schedule
    Assume the following:
Saints and Viking have same record, say 15-1.
Both teams lose to an AFC team (Vikings have lost to Pittsburgh and assume Saints lose to Patriots.)
On the tiebreakers the first 3 are even. No head-to-head, same conference record, common games the same (they both would have defeated all common opponents).
So it would come down to Number 4, Strength of Victory. On this tie breaker, you add up the combined records of all of the teams you defeated throughout the year. As of two weeks ago, the Saints had the advantage on this one, but that was before they beat the Rams and Bucs. I have not looked at it since, but would assume the Vikings are a little ahead in that one now. An interesting tidbit hear is that the Vikings should be pulling for the Bears (assume they beat them twice) and the Packers to win because that would help their “Strength of Victory” quotient, while the Saints should be pulling for the teams they played, but the Vikings did not.
It is possible for this to even go to the fifth tie breaker if the fourth would be tied. It was withing a couple of games two weeks ago, but I assume the Vikings are a few games ahead on #4 right now.

I agree, it should be the GOW . The Cheatriots have a lot more to lose than the Saints do in this one, guys. Yeah, the Saints have Greer and Bush back but will they have a lil rust to shake?McKenzie’s a non-factor as far as I’m concerned.

I don’t agree with you that the Patriots have more to lose. If the Patriots lose this game, I still don’t see them losing their playoff spot. They need to continue to win in order to secure a first round bye, but they can still do this even if they lose this game. San Diego and Cincinnati have to play each other and the winner of that game will probably lose another game somewhere along the way.
The way the tiebreakers work out the Saints need to keep ahead of the Vikings because the Vikings “Strength of Victory” number is very close to the Saints and the first overall seed in the playoffs is at stake. I think the first seed in the NFC is going to the Super Bowl. In the AFC anything can happen.

  18. SF Saints Fan says: Nov 25, 2009 1:02 PM

I should have added this one in the tie-breaker analysis above. If #4 would be tied (which is possible), it would be very easy for #5 to be tied as well. The Patriots and Steelers would have to have the same record, which could easily happen. If so, it then would go to the #6 tie-breaker which is “Combined Ranking Among Conference Teams (points scored and points allowed)”. On this tie breaker the Saints are clearly ahead. I don’t see it going there because it looks like the Vikings should be ahead on #4 tie-breaker.

  19. Lost says: Nov 25, 2009 1:31 PM

    Saint/Viking Tiebreaker #3 is undetermined.
Viking play in Carolina the week before Xmas.
They close out the season against the Giant.
Saint close out the season against Carolina.
You may want to put an asterisk after those games on your schedule.

  20. SF Saints Fan says: Nov 25, 2009 2:18 PM

    Lost:
I know about those games. I said “assume” they both go 15-1 with the Saints only loss being to the Patriots. I agree with you, there is still a LOT of football left to be played during the regular season. Both the Saints and the Vikings could easily lose 2-3 games each. You never know……
Regardless, the Saints vs Patriots game is still very important to the Saints because of the importance of the overall #1 seed. In the NFC, I think whoever is the #1 seed has by far the inside track to the Super Bowl.

rusH1023, no need for the expletives. I realize in the backwards town where you may come from, that’s normal and acceptable language, but you really should have some more respect for your fellow man.
Anyways, there’s no way to tell for sure, as the PFTV videos are incredibly crappy in quality, so you can’t really blame anyone for hearing things one way, right Florio?

  22. philwauke says: Nov 25, 2009 2:45 PM

    Also, question for Saints fans:
Why ‘Who dat’? Isn’t that the Bengals line? Dat, dey, same thing, right? Why copy the Bengals?
Well if you knew your football you know the bungals stole that from the saints.

  23. CKL says: Nov 25, 2009 3:02 PM

SF Saints-I’m a Pats fan and I think this game is more important to the Pats just like the Colts game they lost was (UGH). They are closer to a fight for first in their division than the Saints are (Fins are only 2 games back and the Pats still have to play them again). Saints can lock it up by week 14 even if they lose to the Pats, can’t they? They’re 5 games up on the next team which is Atl.

  24. SF Saints Fan says: Nov 25, 2009 4:22 PM

    CKL:
The Pats will win the AFC East regardless of whether they beat the Saints. The Saints, on the other hand, must have home field advantage (in my opinion) over the Vikings in order to get to the Super Bowl. So, I think it is more important to the Saints.
The Pats will probably play the Colts, in Indy, for the AFC Championship. Whether they beat the Saints on Monday will have no bearing on that game, it will be played in Indy.
The NFC Championship game will be the Saints and the Vikings, we just don’t know who will host the game. The Saints need to stay 1 game ahead of the Vikings because I think the tie breaker will go there way, assuming both go 15-1 and the Saints were to lose to the Pats.

    FEAR THE PATRIOT!

A Vikings can beat the Saints post I made. You Patriot fans may be interested. Brady is no rookie qb either, will not throw to the Saints.Saints have made a living off of getting picks this year as well as scoring many points.
Saints have 36.9 ppg Vikings 30.6
Saints have played a # 2Giants,#5Jets, # 8 Eagles NFL top ranked defenses this year.
    Vikings have played #1 Steelers,# 3 Packers(twice) and #9 Ravens.
So,we both played a few good D’s, most of our teams wins came from scrub D’s.(Lions,Buccs,Rams,Bills,Browns,Falcons etc..)
So,points should be scored in good numbers. Don’t brag too much Saints
Now about the picks: Saints got 20 picks.
    Who they came from:
    Rookie Stafford,Lions -3
    Never plays Kolb ,Eagles-3
    Rookie Sanchez,Jets-3
    11 game Henne,Fins-2
    Rookie Freeman,Buccs-3
    2nd year Ryan,falcons -3
    Edwards,E. Manning,Delhomme and Bulger: 3 total.
My conclusion: You guys don’t fool veteran qb’s with that D you got. Brett Favre # 1QB rating, 21-3 tds to picks. Don’t fear that pick machine you got.He is too smart.
Oh,and when the Saints face decent rb’s:
    Jackson,Rams -26 for 131 yds. 5.0 avg.
    Williams,Panthers- 21 for 149 and7.1 avg.
    Turner, Falcons – 20 for 151 and 7.6 avg.
Ah…we got AD you know. You won’t stop him. Saints get 154.3 ypg rushing but not against the vikings who allow 85.5 ypg and have allowed 1 red zone td Reggie Bush!
I think people who think the Saints outclass the Vikings really don’t know football. Be a great game. I’ll take the Vikes.

  28. SmackMyVickUp says: Nov 25, 2009 8:21 PM

    Patriots win here.
Saints win out for the rest of the year.
Vikings go 13-3 or 14-2 and lose first game of the playoffs so tie breaker never comes into play.
Go ahead and play around with your fake scenarios if it makes you feel better though.

  29. MasterShake says: Nov 26, 2009 8:08 PM

    The tie-breaker is a roshambo(sp).
They kick each other in the balls until somebody falls down.
    Vikings kick first.
