The other thing to remember regarding Cowher’s time with the Steelers is that towards the end of his tenure there was friction between him and Colbert, because……..Cower wanted total control. So I don’t see Colbert and Kahn leaving. Common sense also says why would they leave a first class organization with great ownership and tradition and oh yeah, Super Bowl rings.
The reason that the Steelers drafted Ben was because the Rooney’s knew what they had with Ben and didn’t want him to become the next Marino.

Make a note of this Florio because Steel Wheels knows more about the Steelers then you ever will! Colbert is Pittsburgh born and bred and he isn’t leaving his dream job for Cowher.
At the end of Cowher’s tenure MANY Steeler fans wanted him gone. I’m sure more then a few inside the organization felt the same way, for many reasons. His legendary choke jobs in AFCC games were just the tip of the iceberg. I’m not going to go into his personality defects and his off field shenanigans that aren’t directly related to football.
Suffice to say, Cowher would NEVER be able to stand up to the media scrutiny in NY! He got a free ride from the Pittsburgh Homers for all those years and NY in the last place on earth that he wants to coach. He’ll be much better off in a small market like Carolina of Buffalo, and he’s smart enough to realize it.

That’s a fairly typical chicken-and-egg type of debate. Plus, it depends on the individual team, obviously all circumstances are different.
Sometimes great coaching can make mediocre teams competitive. Sometimes sufficient talent can overcome bad coaching. It all really depends on the team. I don’t expect the Colts to continue to flourish like they have been for long though. Caldwell is no Dungy.

And sending only six players to the Pro Bowl last year is pathetic… a third-year GM should already have drafted/acquired at least a dozen Pro Bowlers.

finsbooyah, I didn’t forget because I don’t want to be a moaner. Personally, the adversity has been for the Dolphins. Depth is a necessity, playing experience is a necessity, looking at your young players is a necessity, learning how to win when you are down is a necessity. Injuries are never an excuse.
I wanted to avoid any appearance of being a baby like the first poster.

Not a Jets fan, not a fan of the flabulous one currently in charge, but to bring Cowher in solely to up the draw gives off a bad vibe. Sure the guy won a ring, but he was fortunate to have had multiple shots (the AFC title game losses at home, SB XXX). Not saying he can’t do the job, but don’t see a comfortable comeback with the Jets.

Too many excuses from the Jets ilk. So, is your point that if the Jets never lost these two players (Washington and Jenkins) they would be in contention in the AFC East? How do you know? that’s purely conjecture…in fact it’s WAY out there. Especially putting Jenkins over Revis. Jenkins never even plays 4 downs! He’s lucky to play two downs a series before they have to rotate him out or call a different D. He’s ALWAYS seen on the sidelines sucking oxygen by the 3rd quarter. He is only good against plugging the middle (and he isn’t half the athlete Wilfork is). You can’t take Revis off the field.
Pats lost Brady last year and won 11 games. They lost Seymour in the trade in Sept and have rookies and FA’s in there. Many NFL teams have lost stars and still competed right into January. It’s Pro football. You can’t say “we received a few injuries (TWO!) now we can’t compete.” The Jets actually convinced themselves that they were invincible after the 3-0 start, that other teams feared them – and when they got smacked in the mouth by “sub-par” teams like the Bills and Miami they had a melt down. They Jets were NEVER mentally strong and never knew how to deal with adversity. The mentally Jets imploded, pure and simple. Too much mouth, too little execution on the field, and now too many excuses and whining from the HC and the fans. How about recognizing that the jets should have pulled Sanchez and went with Clemens 2-3 games ago? There you go.

I hate teams with no patience. I can’t believe how many people posted negative things about Bill Cowher. Look at his stats and the fact that he has a Super Bowl. Last time I checked very few head coaches have a super bowl (as a head coach). In fact only 2 active coaches have rings with out cheating (coughlin, tomlin). I’m not saying Rex should be fired after one season, relax and see what he does in the offseason an next year. How many teams with a rookie HC and QB would be competitive. Flacco and Ryan? Flukes who both are sucking this year (comparativly).

Jets are 4-6 right now, 3 wins would put them at 7-3. The problem with the Jets is that they are losing to teams they should beat. Buffalo, Jacksonville and even one of the Miami games should be theirs.
You can’t play the what if games. If I did that, let’s see, then Fins should have beat the Colts and Saints, so they would also be 5-2.
What if the Jets had a good HC and QB?

Why, when bringing up the possibility of coaches with super bowl rings, doesn’t ANYONE bring up the GLARING stat that is…..ONLY ONE COACH IN THE HISTORY OF THE LEAGUE HAS WON 2 SUPERBOWLS WITH 2 DIFFERENT TEAMS….and the last time that happened was 1973!!! And he was Don F&@#ING SHULA!!!
Bill Cowher was the coach of a GREAT Defense for 15 YEARS, and could not get it done, until he FINALLY drafted a QB!!!….IT TOOK HIM 15 YEARS, TO REALIZE HE NEEDED A QB!!!????
So why now is he a GENIUS???
There is a reason why non of these guys have jobs right now, and Rex Ryan, and Schwartz, and McDaniels do.

Losing Washington was huge.
Losing a Pro Bowl defensive MVP nose tackle on a team that relies almost exclusively on the 3-4 defense is a death knell.
I’ve already turned my attention to rooting against the Patriots.

Seriously? Take a look in the division. Take a look at a team that beat the Jets twice. Getting the hint yet?
Chad Pennington, Ronnie Brown, Will Allen, Jason Ferguson… competitive in the division (theoretically), still in the wildcard hunt, beat the Jets twice. Rookie QB and second year HC and all. Did you think before you posted AT ALL?

Tanny has done a great job continuing to deal with the cap. Coming into this offseason the Jets were supposed to be 25 million over, he got them way under to where they could spend.
