It’s not a surprise, but it’s now officially closer to being official.
Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen will enter the 2010 NFL draft, according to Joe Schad of ESPN (via Rotoworld.com).
Clausen’s decision becomes a no-brainer with coach Charlie Weis by all appearances on the way out of South Bend, and in light of the possibility that the manner in which the NFL pays rookies will change come 2011.
Though Clausen’s stock has been on the rise, his ultimate status will be determined by his pre-draft workouts, and by the pre-draft workouts of the other eligible quarterbacks.
Better known as the second coming of Brady Quinn!
Cleveland, Oakland, Buffalo, St. Louis….take your pick Jimmy. His entering the draft speech..”I’m Jimmy Clausen and I will win 4 Super Bowls in my first 4 years”
This guy is horrible…. ND is 1-10 facing teams that are ranked in the top 25. He will be picked in the 4th round and will NEVER start a game (brian BROHM?)
He can’t get any better staying. This is the only thing that makes sense. He’s got a big time arm and a world of talent, much more than Quinn. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him in future Pro Bowls.
Anyone who thinks college football is anything other than a B school for the physically gifted is either naive, stupid, a liar or a moron. All football schools could be grouped as a hedge fund run by Goldman Sachs and regulated by an Obama Tzar. Good luck Jimmy, you’ll need it.
Interestingly similar scoring to Joe Montana, actually a BETTER completion percentage than Joe at ND.
His edge over Brady Quinn is that he has successfully executed an NFL style of offense under Weis.
His biggest challenge will be the reality of attempting it against more consistent NFL speed and strength.
That equates to the ultimate challenge of mental toughness, where many college star QBs fail…. Jay Cutler…Jake Plummer…Brian Griese…Brady Quinn…Chris Simms…Ryan Leaf…Slash himself
he was suppose to be a winner. turned out being a loser good luck in the NFL Jimmy
Graveyard of college QB’s who came out early is pretty full.
Maybe a fifth rounder…
The kid has 28 TDs with only 4 ints. He’s not the problem. Their defense is horrible.
Claussen has a better arm than Quinn and Brohm. The light bulb turned on for Claussen during the Hawaii Bowl last year. Notre Dame may suck, but it wasn’t Claussen’s fault – pin that blame on the defense. Now, I don’t think he can walk right in and be Flacco/Ryan, but I would take my chances with Claussen over Tebow or McCoy. The real deal in this draft will be Locker from Washington.
He is nothing like Brady Quinn. His arm, his physical make up, etc. But yet somehow people say he is going to be the next Brady Quinn. Why? Because they both went to Notre Dame? Riighhhhht. Lets use some better logic here PLEASE. One thing I am not thankful for on this Thanksgiving is people and their stupid opinion. And the shitty Raiders and Cowboys game.
In other news: Charlie Weis has promised to mix in a salad this week and wipe the boogers from his nose in cold weather so those watching the game in Hi Def don’t have to throw up while watching the game.
He’ll be a decent NFL QB, as long as he isn’t thrown to the wolves.
I just don’t get those that think Clausen is a first-rounder. He was absolutely horrible his first two years at nd, and this year, he’s really not that much better. I think they are looking at all the fourth quarter comeback wins (against really weak teams) and they think he’s some kind of miracle worker because of it.
I hate nd as much as the next guy, but in all seriousness, he’s got a lot of offensive talent around him and he can’t do anything with it.
They say he has a gass jaw.
GurpBadesha if they made a flick about the lacking of brain cells–you’d star in the movie!! Have you watched 1 ND game this year? I know ND plays on NBC most of the time, so did you adjust the foil on your rabbit ears to catch a good signal? Stop Watching football on analog sucka! Clausen is the truth. Even against the top comp he has thrived. His poise and accuracy are his best attributes. His arm is way stronger than given credit for. He throws well on the run and his extremely polished. He will be a first rd pick, and if he goes later in the rd–a team like the Carolina Panthers will suit him well. Then he will turn out like my boy Aaron Rodgers…..Learn football sucka
I think he has the chance to succeed in the NFL, and I think he will.
Charlie Weis may not be a good head coach, but he def helped Clausen get ready for his future NFL career.
Jimmy Clausen could be the first player in a long time to actually be hurt by playing at Notre Dame.
He’s not the same player as Brady Quinn, and coming from a fan of a certain Californian team you would think I would be ready to pile on him. Yeah, Clausen has that Ryan Leaf sh!thead aura around him, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him implode, but he’s not Quinn. His arm and accuracy are way better than Brady, while his mobility is much worse. He’s a legit top 10 QB next year that could fall thanks to the ND stigma.
I can’t believe someone is mentioning Clausen in the same breath as Joe Montana. Jimmy couldn’t carry Joe’s jock, much less perform anywhere near his level.
Hell…..If not for Golden Tate, ND would be 3-7, playing the likes of Navy and UConn, don’t think NFL executives don’t notice that?…..Clausen is just the new model of the overated ND Quarterback……Like Quinn, Mirer,Powlus,Rice etc…..
He’ll be fine. He looks as accurate as any QB that could be coming out and he’s experienced in the pro-style offense. What’s not to like? He’s not the one giving up big plays on defense!
His only real worry will be getting punched in the face by impatient Browns fans after he supplants local heartthrob Brady Quinn.
I wish it weren’t true, but it probably is. Good luck Jimmy.
Jimmy has come a long way this year. His Freshman and Sophmore years were filled with bad play. Mainly because the offensive line was so horrible. But, also in part because Jimmy would stare down the receiver and make it easy for the secondary. He got better at looking off the receiver halfway through his sophmore year and he has done a tremendous job of doing so this year. I wish he was coming back, but if somebody was willing to give me millions to play football, my fat ass would say good bye to college too.
Some of you guys have Quinn’s career over after a handful of starts in the NFL. You say it so it must be true Huh? Morons! I say it, you prove it.
I saw this guy in high school and the best thing to say about him is he is a huge risk. He has never once been on a team that didn’t surround him with talent on both sides of the ball. Notre Dame cosistently has great recruiting classes, why is beyond me. He struggles to get his guys the ball on any pass over 15 yards, he can hit guys in the flats who are open but that goes more to Wies’ play calling style than Cluasen. I think he is going to be a lot like Quinn in his career path, he will have a few good games that everyone can go insane over, but will never be good unless he is surrounded by talent.
