Cowboys coach Wade Phillips knows that his team’s 8-3 record doesn’t mean much in the long run. For this coach and franchise, everything before December is prelude.
Phillips is already looking ahead towards a daunting slate of games.
“We probably have as tough a schedule of anybody (coming up). We have a rough schedule, but we’ve had a rough schedule all the way through,” Phillips said. “But if we play well, we can do well. They’re a close-knit group. Our guys are not selfish, they’re very focused, I could tell this week how focused they were. I think they’ll continue that.”
Phillips is right; the schedule is unforgiving. Dallas has road games against the Giants, Saints, and Redskins. They host the Chargers and the Eagles in the season finale.
The Cowboys will have to earn a run to the NFC East title, they will have to earn it. And if they don’t, Phillips may not get another chance to start the season so strong.
hey Greg (leave off the last G for…take your pick)
how about reading what you just typed before throwing it up here? you always seems to have some sort of obvious mistake in your writing.
“The Cowboys will have to earn a run to the NFC East title, they will have to earn it.”
Do you work for the PFT Dept. of Redundancy Dept?
With a win next week, we can bury the hope of the Giants and knock them out of the playoff picture.
Because so many teams don’t earn their division titles.
Because so many teams don’t earn their division titles.

Teams in the NFC West and AFC West usually don’t.
“we’ve had a rough schedule all the way through,”
The NFC East stinks & they all played the AFC West…a lot of teams with losing records, where is the tough schedule?
Quag-
it’s that everyone in the nfc east is so used to discounting other divisions saying ours it the best, so of course in wade’s view he has a hard schedule. reality is, it became one of the worst…
“For this coach and franchise, everything before December is prelude.”
Yes. Ah, December. That time of the year where the Cowboys completely fade away into irrelevance by losing all of their games and stumbling from the top of the division at the end of November to the golf courses or to the beaches in Mexico in January.
And Vox Veritas typically disappears from PFT until free agency begins.
This team has talent, but the real challenge for not having a collapse again toward the end of this season is the coaching.
The coaches (Wade & Garrett) totally suck! There are too many games that you can point to where the team won in spite of the terrible offensive plays, defensive penalties and lack of preparation.
Even if the Cowboys win it from here on end, they have got to upgrade the coaching.
PLEASE.
NoKoolaidCowboy…if the Cowboys won from here and went on the win the Super Bowl, then the coaching obviously would have improved enough for there to be no change. The Super Bowl win won’t happen though, and Jason Garrett needs to be fired, keep Wade as a defensive coordinator, he’s pretty good at that.
If the Eagles and Giants continue to play lackluster football Dallas could win it even if they have a collapse.
