Wade Phillips wasn't the only Cowboys leader looking ahead to December in the immediate aftermath of Thursday's win over Oakland.
Owner Jerry Jones spoke to the team about the dangers of being too happy with their 8-3 record. Then he spoke to reporters, like Calvin Watkins of ESPN Dallas.
"This is a time when there shouldn't be anybody smug, shouldn't be
anybody feeling full of themselves by where we are," Jones said. "We should really sit down here
and see because we may not, on an individual basis, ever get to be in a
spot like this again. So, let's spend the next six weeks really
blocking everything out as much as we can and zero in on the playoffs."
The failures of Decembers past was part of Jones' talk to the team. While it's hard to argue the sentiment, we wonder if it's really necessary to keep referencing how the team has screwed up before. It's not like the Cowboys players don't know.
Ultimately, talk is cheap.
Tony Romo needs to make better decisions, the offensive line needs to protect him, and the Cowboys defense needs to pressure the quarterback.
If they do all that, the NFC East is there for the taking.

Get hosed by the packers and then get by with the skin on their ass beating a bottom dweller in the skins.....don't really see where there is anything to be smug about. da' boys will do the december choke....nuthin' to worry about.
Sounds like Bill Parcells telling players not to drink the Kool-Aid and putting mousetraps in players' lockers.
If I were the Cowboys, I'd just 'zero in on the next game' instead of 'zeroing in on the playoffs'. They have a reasonably tough schedule from here on out. They could easily drop 3.
Why doesn't Jerry Jones become the head coach?
