Terrell Owens has often been labeled a disruptive presence, so it’s only fair we mention when a teammate presents a different side of him.
(Plus, we need something to post or Florio will think I’m slacking while he’s celebrating the surprising result of tonight’s Backyard Brawl.)
Patriots receiver Isaiah Stanback was teammates with Owens in Dallas, and says T.O. was instrumental in helping him develop into a NFL receiver. Stanback played quarterback in college.
“I love T.O. Obviously, get gets a bad rap, whatever, whatever,” Stanback said. “But I was with him every day. I know the real T.O. He helped me out a lot personally, and he helps everybody that he works with. He’s a team player.”
Owens’ teammates over the years at wide receiver often have similar things to say. In Hard Knocks, Owens looked to be a mentor to many younger Cowboy wideouts. No one has ever questioned his work ethic.
T.O. has mostly run into problems, of course, with quarterbacks and coaches. Those issues haven’t cropped up with the Bills, despite a disappointing season.
The tranquil year in Buffalo could help Owens get another job next season, as long as he’s willing to take a pay cut.
TO is a hard worker but he has some opinions that may be right, but are destructive. You can’t throw a QB under the bus mid season.
His opinions need to be based in more about what’s good for the team and not necessarily what is accurate.
TO has an elite work ethic and (had) an elite talent. So this is no shocker.
He should get another job. I’ve been to several Bills games this season, and from the upper level seats, you get a better view of the receivers than what you get on TV. T.O. has been WIDE OPEN all season, but Trent Edwards will only throw to the running backs. The guy is terrified to throw the ball downfield. Can’t blame T.O. for the poor production.
TO will be a Raven next year
TO will end of up in Chicago next season.
Sounds like the story of my life. Only I don’t make the money T.O. does.
TO’s going to New England next year????
Maybe he will finish up where it all started, back in San Fran.
TO will be a Dolphin next year
Bring on Florio’s target market!!! The middle aged, over weight, white guy, living in the past, way past whatever glory days he had!! So predictable. They will hate on Owens, Florio will love it, continue to write in a style they like, and continue to sell Ad space to the “Get ripped and a 6 pack like me in 4 weeks” people since they will buy up all the space they can to target people like Florio has pouring into his site.
I’ve got to admit that I had Terrell figured all wrong. Now that I know that he likes to tutor young receivers I can see that it was totally OK for him to try to destroy the very teams that were hooking him up with millions upon millions of reasons to live.
and I dont want to hear the “blah blah waaahy waaahy Florio didnt write this Rosenthanl did!” crap…that will just add to your stupidity.
TO’s problem when at Dallas was that Romo, Coach Garrett and Coach Cupcake were too wussy to deal with his personality and be straight up with him. Is he perfect? No. Does he work hard? Yes. Does he want to win? Yes.
But the QB and coaches at Dallas are non confrontational.
Parcells was no better. He couldn’t even refer to him as a person. His style is just to be a bully and if he had tried some of the crap he has in the past like when he referred to Glenn as “she”, he would have had a real problem on his hands.
@Shrugging..
Not a Pats fans but if TO went to New England you wouldnt have to play a season to see who wins the super bowl.. Having TO & Randy Moss on opposite sides would be ridiculous for a guy like Brady to have the time to throw to

How about ESPN never reporting on TO coming to the aid of one of their own reporters? The media has it out for this man. They wanna bash him but never want to report on anything good.
TO helped one of ESPN’s reporters last year after he got hit by a car and they put it on the back pages of ESPN.com.

You can’t be a team dividing force unless some of your teammates like you.
The end will be playing for the Raiders.
I’ve watched TO since he came into the league and some might think he is an ass but to me it almost is like he has autistic traits in some ways. A reporter asks a question and he give them an honest answer but gets roasted for it. Many autistic people are very high functioning but have trouble with personal relationships as they do not understand some basic concepts such as hurting other peoples feelings. They also sometimes do not know when to stop talking, most people can tell from people’s faces and such that what they are saying is pissing someone off but a lot of autistic people cannot.
Lots of people are on a wide range of the autistic spectrum and even if he isn’t he plays his ass off every day (unlike moss) and says what is on his mind. What can you not like about that?
He’s old. He knows it. Thus, he isn’t saying boo this year.
T.O. is the real deal and the Bills need to figure out a way to get him the ball.
prophet, I think you mean you can’t throw 4 QBs under the bus mid-season….
@ryanmac..
I’m slightly autistic. What you are describing sounds, to be precise, like aspergers syndrome. That usually makes it hard for people to understand social context and read body language or facial expressions. So people with aspergers will often lack the ability to be politically correct about stuff.
Ofcourse what allmost all forms of autism brings an ability to focus ones energy and attention in to one specific area of interest in which you may come to excel. You know, like working your way to a hall of fame football career..
Sorry guys but Ted Bundy worked on a suicide hotline and that doesn’t make him a good guy.
Everyone can make all the excuses in the world for the guy but how in the hell was that star stomping drama while he was with the 49ers honest? Classy? Sorry, he’s jackass. And that whole drama queen bit by doing a diva overdose of sleeping pills? That’s not honest, that’s a constant cry for help.
And, has TO ever been linked to woman, outside of the weirdo who handled his suicide attempt? Didn’t think so – he should just come out of the closet.
Question is….”Who the f#$k is Stanback?
Florio-is-a-tool,
How can you compare TO to Ted Bundy? Anyway, although TO has done many stupid things, he is still a great player, who is just trying to win. You can’t ask for much more than that.
“Sorry guys but Ted Bundy worked on a suicide hotline and that doesn’t make him a good guy.”
Nice comparing TO to a serial killer. I’d bet my house and my life savings that you’re from PA.
“And, has TO ever been linked to woman”
That’s a rhetorical chick question and you’d know that it’s an incorrect assumption if you had embraced your inner jealous, catty bitch by watching his reality show (I read about it, in case you were wondering. It would seem that TO is involved with multiple women, don’t assume that since you didn’t see something on TMZ that it didn’t happen).
“Question is….”Who the f#$k is Stanback?”
To this point, another failed Parcells experiment.
When I read a story by Mr. Rosenthal, I always know that it will be filled with typos and juvenile sentence structure. He may be a good reporter, but he must have been smoking in the bathroom while English class was in session.
Vox, Your love for T.O. is showing.
Do you miss him?
I disagree that TO hasn’t been a disruptive influence this year. His public display has been muted, but he has been obviously unhappy, and I wouldn’t be surprised if his hand weren’t somewhere in the firings this year. “I only play the plays that are called” isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement, and tells me that he was unhappy, and was letting people know it.
TO has his moments, but when you really need him sometimes he disappears. He either isn’t trying and has given up on the game, or he comes down with a case of the drops. In my mind he isn’t in the same league with the likes of Randy Moss.
Develop into an NFL receiver? When did that happen? Stanback is fast as hell, but that’s about it..
TO did well on the 9′ers while he was still “Terrell” … once he gained notoriety he changed as a person. I was living out there during his pre-TO days and one night he and a bunch of 9′ers came into the night club where my friend bartended. TO was quiet and polite. It’s hard to reconcile the person I saw that night with what he’s turned into.
One thing which helped keep him in line in SF was the level of talent around him. That’s partly why Dallas was such a massive fail. Romo is no leader and Tuna didn’t have the cajones to get the team to play for Bledsoe – in that kind of power vacuum, TO’s ego went wild.
If by some bizarre twist of fate he did end up in New England, he may actually calm down. He’d have Moss, Welker, and Brady to answer to and there’d be no avenue for him to vent his ego.
“To this point, another failed Parcells experiment.”
Yeah, the Pro Bowl has been littered with this guy’s failures.
Swear to God, Florio, you need to start eliminating idiot posters once and for all. This yahoo seems to forget that Parcells has a couple of Super Bowl rings and has revived franchises in more NFL cities than this chucklehead has visited. Any coach is bound to have failures along the way.
@Richm2256
The failed project he is speaking of is Stanback, not TO… you silly goose!
Here’s why TO is a jackass: he fails the Mariucci test.
Mariucci has to be one of the nicest most positive minded people on planet earth and HE had run ins with TO. If you can’t get along with MARIUCCI for heavens’ sake, you are teh fail.
Plus it doesn’t matter how often TO is OPEN. Does he catch the effing ball as much as one would expect for a great #1 WR? No. He has had a dropsie problem since he was in SF. Were I a QB I would hesitate to throw to him just for that reason alone.
“Vox, Your love for T.O. is showing.
Do you miss him?”
No. I miss his production. I have always thought that he gets a bad rap. His biggest problem is letting his feelings be known.
“Yeah, the Pro Bowl has been littered with this guy’s failures.”
Can’t gloss over the fact that Stanback was a Parcells experiment. As he would tell you, it is what it is. He also didn’t draft a single offensive lineman of note in six tries while he was calling the shots for the Cowboys. Spent a first round pick on Barbie Carpenter because his dad used to play for him, then used a 2nd on Anthony Fasano because he resembles Mark Bavaro. Somebody asked who Isaiah Stanback was, if you think he’s anything but a failed Parcells experiment then please state your case and I’ll be glad to once again make you look silly.
“Swear to God, Florio, you need to start eliminating idiot posters once and for all. This yahoo seems to forget that Parcells has a couple of Super Bowl rings”
Oh man, you’re one of the first fools squawking when Cowboy fans bring up the 5 Super Bowl wins, and Parcells’ rings are even older than most of those. No Parcells-affiliated team has won a playoff game since January of 1999 and the streak will continue. Wade Phillips took Parcells’ guys and won 4 more games than Parcells ever did with him, and the only time Parcells got more than 9 wins was in his first season when he was using mostly Jerry’s players. He was absolutely mediocre as a head coach for the Cowboys. 34-30 with no playoff wins. The curtain was pulled back on Bill Parcells a long time ago, you’re way late to the party.
Vox, if production is your goal, losing Parcells had to hurt. Phillips, just like Barry Switzer, was the benefafctor of their predecessors. The only way you are going to see better is for another first rate coach to step in and put up with the owners BS for a couple of seasons, then get on JJ’s bad side, and leave the benefit to another schmuck.
Okay, Stanback isn’t famous. Miles Austin is, and T. O. stayed after practice time after time helping him learn the game.
I admit I don’t want him back in Dallas but give him credit for the good things he does.
“Vox, if production is your goal, losing Parcells had to hurt.”
Why do you say that? He was barely a .500 coach. He’s a part of the Cowboys playoff drought.
“Phillips, just like Barry Switzer, was the benefafctor of their predecessors.”
Most coaches are. Bill Parcells was a benefactor of his predecessor, too. He never did better than the 10-6 he did in his first year and it was mostly with guys that he had no part in bringing to the Cowboys. After that he went 6-10, 9-7 and 9-7.
“The only way you are going to see better”
I’ve already seen better. Wade Phillips’ worst record so far is 9-7.
I said that because it is the truth, Switzer benefitted from Johnson, who left because your owner is an azz**le, and Parcells, who left for the same reason built the foundations that your team had their success grow from.
I said that because it is true. The next coaches are jokers that are riding the surf to the shore
The constant is that JJ is still the owner, and at the moment you are on the side of the equation that gave you decent teams. You also are on the side of decline, as I expect yet another December swoon will bring ya

It’s amazing that any conversation about the NFL can be turned back around towards the Cowboys. This is truly why they are America’s team. NFL Films recognized this over 30 years ago [probably before most of you were born] and bestowed upon them this most illustrious of titles. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, they will ignite a flame of emotion in any football fan.
tewst
They are pretenders.
t.o. is an arrogant selfish jackass. he is not a team player. he develops a clique (defensive backs and underling wideouts usually) and then creates an us v. them division in the lockerroom.
did it in frisco, did it in philly, did it in dallas.
his so-called production has been for nothing. he hasn’t played in a winning playoff game since the niners.
he has the mind of a child. for those who call this honesty, please. even older children know which questions to answer and which ones to not answer.
t.o.’s honest analysis never includes any reference to his own shortcomings. when he calls out the play calling and says i only run the plays they call, he fails to note the times he ran the wrong route (frequent, as t.o. isn’t into studying, or training camp or other inconveniences) or simply dropped the ball when they tried to throw it his way.
osterman, reading your posts its obvious you are a legend……….. in your own mind. and i’d like to see the physique that allows you to generalize the rest of the posters. keep floggin that dolphin son.
and to vox, who is the village idiot here, only a few people think that wade is a better coach than parcells. and all of them know as much about football as you do. wade his his peter principle spot as coordinator. after this third time moving higher it will be indisputable.
and wade’s best year was with parcells team. which was the high tide of this cowboy decade before jerry again began to systematically dismantle it. left to his own devices, jerry jones will never win a playoff game. and i guess you won’t miss that #1 next year you paid for roy williams either. i hear theres a good minor league pitcher out there that used to be a college quarterback (henson or hutchinson or something).
