Braylon: Browns were the pits

When the New York Jets acquired wide receiver Braylon Edwards in a trade with the Cleveland Browns, it looked like a move that showed the Jets were serious about winning right now.

After all, the Jets were 3-1 and in first place in the AFC East at the time: Adding a marquee player during the season was the kind of thing that a team would do in an effort to make a playoff push.

It hasn’t worked out that way: The Jets are4-6 and fading out of playoff contention. But Edwards still says he’s glad to be a Jet, because the Browns are, in Edwards’ estimation, “the pits.”

“I have seen the pits,” Edwards said. “This is nothing like the pits, and you know what I refer to. I have seen the baddest of the bad.”

Edwards’ contract is up after the season, and he says he hopes to sign a long-term deal after the year to remain with the Jets.

“If these guys want to extend me to play here, I’d love to be there,” Edwards said.

Still, if the Jets don’t start playing better soon, Edwards might start thinking of New York as the pits. After all, the Jets are just 1-5 since acquiring Edwards.
