The Indianapolis Colts are 10-0 and will be favored to win all six of their remaining games. But they don’t want to hear talk about a perfect season.
“It’s certainly something that we haven’t talked about,” Colts quarterback Peyton Manning said. “We don’t talk about it around here. All we talk about is the next opponent. All we talk about is just taking it one game at a time. That’s really kind of been our philosophy.”
On Sunday the Colts will play the Texans in Houston, and their remaining schedule includes home games against the Titans, Broncos and Jets, plus road trips to Buffalo and Jacksonville. Those are all certainly winnable games.
So the Colts could find themselves in a situation where they’re 12-0 or 13-0 and already have clinched home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs, and it’s not clear whether first-year Colts coach Jim Caldwell will give plenty of rest to the Colts’ top players should that happen, or whether the Colts would try to go undefeated.
And the Colts won’t even entertain the thought, saying they’re only focusing on the next game.
So while Mercury Morris and his 1972 Dolphins teammates wait on both the Colts and the New Orleans Saints to suffer their first loss, the Colts are going to stay mum on the subject.
why must we suffer those bores from that 72 team?they had the “perfect” season and everyone knows it. we do not need morriss or anyone from that team of bitter old men to show thier faces and open thier mouths everytime someone gets near it.let them talk if they want just don’t makes hear or see them.being undefeated does not make you the best of all time.the 85 bears hold that title.

Why worry about the future, he’s right just keep on playin’ hard and take it one game at a time.
I’m sick of the damn 1972 Dolphins. I’m pretty sure the Patriots in 2007, by winning 18 straight in more competitive league, blew their accomplishment out of the water.
I think they’d rather talk about winning the Super Bowl. Nobody remembers the team that loses the Super Bowl, even if they went 18-1. Sorry Brady.

Are you kidding? The Patriots losing that Super Bowl was the only “accomplishment” fans of a lot of middling teams had to hang their hats on. They were SO happy about that.
If anything, it will be that the Giants were the team that beat them that will be forgotten over time.
No people will remember the Brady led 14 point effort/collapse/choke against the Giants ending their season at 18-1.
Enjoy it stetson.
I don’t like the Colts. I respect them for being a great football team with a great QB (whom I am actually beginning to like).
But since I don’t like this Dungy guy, who acts like he is morally two levels above anybody else, maybe it’s a good thing if Caldwell proves in his first season it wasn’t all Dungy’s making. Dungy’s certainly a good coach in Tampa and in Indy, but the way he acts makes me want to impersonate Donovan at times (hint: puke)
Let them go undefeated and then lose in the Divisional Playoffs to San Diego!
Why would my Colts be talking 16-0? The only number they care about is 3, as in 3rd SB trophy. Yes, faithful readers, the Colts played football before Peyton Manning.
I’m a huge Colts fan & I extremely hope that Caldwell will be a man & not rest the starters at the end of the season, regardless if they’re undefeated or not. The Colts’ offense is all about rhythm & timing. The ’06 team proved that because they played 3 playoff games & never rested their starters. They need to play every game & not worry about getting starters hurt. Momentum & rhythm are too important for this team. Put the pedal to the floor & let Manning tear everyone up. MVP #4 & Super Bowl MVP #2 are gonna be his!! Go Colts! Pats suck!
I don’t blame them. It will only be important IF they are undefeated going into their last game. The media started asking them after week 6. It’s almost as bad as when the media asks a team about a week 2 crucial game. Yeah, right. A strange definition for crucial. A game where if the team loses they have 14 more.
Undefeated season means nothing when they can’t beat the Patriots or Chargers in the playoffs.
We own you, Colts. You better pray you don’t run into us in the playoffs or it’s no soup for you.
love,
the San Diego Chargers
What about the Saints? Are they ‘not talking’ too? Who else is ‘not talking’ about what else?!? The suspense is killing me! I can’t remember the last time so many people were, ‘not talking’ about so much!
They may not be talking about being undefeated, but I overheard one player yell “Championship team, baby” or something similar after a recent game.
I think it may be getting to their heads, and it really shouldn’t. They are hurting.
Dear Bigbolt,
Thanks for the warning but you will probably have already lost to the Patriots by then since they own you and everything. (I dont have a stupid Seinfeld reference so go ahead and pick your own)
Sincerely,
