Patriots list 21 players on injury report

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick didn’t want to say anything about the head injury suffered by rookie left tackle Sebastian Vollmer.

But the Patriots are saying plenty on their official injury report, putting a whopping 21 players on the list.

Vollmer is one of 17 Patriots listed as questionable for Monday night’s game against the New Orleans Saints. The Patriots’ offensive line is well represented on the injury report, with tackle Nick Kaczur (ankle), center Dan Koppen (knee), tackle Matt Light (knee) and guard Stephen Neal (head) all listed as questionable as well.

Tom Brady is in his customary spot on the injury report, listed as probable with a right shoulder injury. The only player ruled out is running back Fred Taylor.

The Saints listed nine players on their injury report, including running back Reggie Bush and linebacker Jonathan Vilma, both questionable with knee injuries.

    Your move, Sean Payton.

First they got fined for not reporting injuries, so now they report between 15 & 25 every week which has the same result: doesn’t tell anyone anything. Last week they had 19 with almost all listed as “questionable.”
Mr. bill still knows how to bend the rules and drive the league nuts.

Can someone please stop that Bill Belichick? He’s been one step ahead of the NFL for years. Good if your a New England fan, but it sucks for eveyone else. I think this man can only be stopped by a true football genius. QUICK, someone get Florio and Dan Snyder on the line!!!!

Bill must be really up for this game. You don’t normally see these sorts of shell game injury report tactics, unless BB wants to really screw up the Saints’ game-planning. Shawn Payton will laugh and maybe add a dozen more players to his own quasi-injury list– but no tearful claims of ‘disrespect’ such as those streaming these days from the Jets’ one-and-out coach, El Lardo Ryan.

Billy is just the cutest thing with his little injury report. I bet he thinks himself just the most clever football coach who ever lived. Smiles, Billy.

I can see the distant future now. When people forget about what actually happened in the NFL in the early 2000′s and all they have left are the stat lines and the results. Some tv mouth piece will come across the injury reports from this place in time and then see that Tom Brady was getting a shoulder injury every game and still one 3 superbowls in 4 years, and he will proclaim that Tom Brady is the toughest man to ever play football, that even though his offensive line was allowing him to get hurt every game he was still able to pull through and win 3 superbowls(did you notice that in the future the man said Tom Brady won 3 superbowls and not 4 or 5)

Wow! Almost an hour has passed and not a single comment using the really clever “Bill-i-cheat” line we always see with these posts! You must be slow in approving posts today… Bill has a great point with these injury reports, and noone seems to agree with him. What head coach in his right mind would give more information about his team to the opponents than he is required to give? Why no use the system as a smoke screen to confuse the opponents (or better yet, get them to ignore it completely)?
For all those about to complain about the need for an even playing field, if you really want completely honest injury reports – force each team to have an independent medical staff for each week, and let them provide detailed reports for every payer, and make the decision on who is and isn’t available based purely on medical interest. Put them on the sideline, and give them the ability to make medical decisions for every player on the field. Then rotate them so they are never with a team for more than one week every two years. Otherwise, there will always be this kind of potential conflict of interest.

    “A whopping 21 players?”
I guess that makes the 25 list by the Colts a super-duper-whopping number. Give it a rest.

If I was a coach I’d put every player minus the kicker on the injury report just for spite. Throw in some Probable (finger) or Probable (headache) and some shenanigans than watch in enjoyment….

I think it’s pretty funny. He got fined for leaving players off (like it freakin’ MATTERS, unless opponents are gonna try to exploit injuries) and so now he’s either using the injury report as a smoke screen or just being a smartass and listing every little thing.

if you report your wrong if you do not report your fined I think BB has it right
    Go Pats

patriots trying to enhance every competitve advantage possible because theyve realized their on the field advantages arent so abundant anymore.

Belichick was never fined for lying in the injure report, the Jets were, for leaving Favre out of it last year.

  19. firesnake says: Nov 28, 2009 8:06 PM

Shenanigans? Sorry, but anyone can easily come up with at least 10 players which must be on the injury report simply because they _are_ injured, and that are only the obvious starters or players that see the field often, not special teamers or reserves. Holy cow, except for Logan Mankins they have already six players on the Offensive Line injured, uncluding four (five with Vollmer) starters, plus another three I believe on the DL. I suppose the number of ~20 is correct this time based on the current state of the Pats. They have a small number of players on IR (Tate is there), but the team _is_ banged up.
And with the ridiculous injury report rules … ask Favre. Now anybody can say there are too many players on the report … sure they need five OL players, so some of these guys simply must play.

Maybe there are 21 injured players?
