Report: Justin Miller cut for missing a meeting

We previously noted that the New York Jets made a surprise announcement that they cut cornerback/kick returner Justin Miller today.

Now a new report suggests the Jets made the decision to jettison Miller because he missed a meeting this morning.

Roderick Boone of Newsday reports, citing an unnamed source, that Miller “missed out on a meeting this morning and was given his walking papers.”

Jets head coach Rex Ryan had said he hoped to get Miller involved on defense, and special teams coordinator Mike Westhoff said Friday that Miller would “probably run kicks back” in Sunday’s game.

Now Miller, a former Pro Bowl kick returner, is out of work.

Is there no limit to Rex Ryan’s buffoonery?

  2. PatPatriotRules says: Nov 28, 2009 8:55 PM

    Go get him BB…….

Desperation move. Ryan must be losing the locker room if he has to make an example out of someone. Too bad that getting rid of the 53rd man on the roster doesn’t really impress anyone.

I’m sure he’ll get picked up by the Raiders again. They’ve been absolutely terrible in the return game since he left.

    Welcome to Green Bay Justin…

I could make the requisite, “he stole the last doughnut from the coaches’ meeting room” joke, but that would be too easy. That being said, it’s a shame that a guy who’s getting another shot would take it for granted like this.

Look for the Jags who are razor thin on DBs to sign him.

    He’ll find a job somewhere.

He probably figured that after the beating they just took it would be more of the same…Ryan Crying….

Damn! They could have at least given him a red/yellow/green warning before they cut him.
this is such a hard business.

  11. SmackMyVickUp says: Nov 28, 2009 9:33 PM

Doubt he’ll be unemployed for long.
Just trying to make an example out of someone hoping it might makes things better.

That’ll teach that dick to eat Ryan’s last bread roll at the team dinner!

He has to clear waivers and Eric Mangini and the Browns are at, or close to, the top of the order. Welcome to Cleveland, Justin.

Whoever said Packers is right. Lions held Jordy Nelson to 8 yards and a fumble Thursday in the return game. The LIONS! They could use the help.

… I have a feeling he is going to the Titans , back in the summer he even took a physical for them prior to signing with the Raiders , and of course Mustache thought Mouton could have handled the return duties when he got cut by Oakland … Now we have Mark Jones who is injured , Alvin Pearlman (who sucks) and our star (or should have been ) FS returning kicks … yeah , he’s coming to the red, white, and dual blue .

Kansas City would welcome your talents, but you’d better have your sh*t together, or you’ll get sent walkin again.

Hey they still have Braylon Edwards….

  19. BleedGreen says: Nov 28, 2009 10:38 PM

The Eagles should look to pick him up. With Hobbs out, he can do double duties.

All of you Rex bashers who blabbering about this being a desperate move and listing teams that’ll pick Miller up, do you realize he was released by the Raiders this year? And do you realize he was available for anyone to pick up for a good amount of time and no one took him before the Jets picked him up after Leon Washington got hurt? Maybe there is a reason for this? He also looked slow in the one game he played for the Jets and was inactive for two more weeks. This is not a desperation move, its Rex setting an example without hurting the team by dumping a guy with very little to offer a team.

This is what happens when a coach gets too player friendly…he loses the respect of the players and they think they can walk all over you…it happens to alot of coaches…now he tries to crack the whip by cutting a guy…probably wont work.

Have fun working the graveyard shift at AmPm for the rest of your life, Justin. Nice job.

BLAH BLAH BLAH. Releasing a player who has done nothing for your team dose not set an example it’s called droping the “dead” weight. If yout think this will light a fire beneath the behinds of the jets your sadly mistaken. If that was his plan he’s going to lose alot of respect from his players.
Noone likes an angry fat kid… GO PHINS

  26. Tennessee_Tyrant says: Nov 29, 2009 12:59 AM

wow … cousin RK … no better way to set an example than to boot a journeyman who just recently got to your team …THAT’LL SHOW ‘EM REX , Atta boy …

  27. Bender12 says: Nov 29, 2009 1:24 AM

    I’m with Cousinrk.
Justin Miller had been available to 32 teams for a while and everyone said thanks, but no thanks. Rex Ryan learned about Justin Miller what the league already knew.
And yet idiots are blasting Rex Ryan for cutting Justin Miller like he is some amazing talent who doesn’t have a repitation for being a complete turd. Haters.

  28. PARavensJeff says: Nov 29, 2009 1:34 AM

We’ll take him in Baltimore, he can’t be any worse then the corners we have seen this year

  29. southernboi727 says: Nov 29, 2009 1:46 AM

People get cut all the time. Who cares? He’s got talent and he hasn’t been in trouble. He’ll sign somewheres.

  30. djbambam says: Nov 29, 2009 2:43 AM

People need to get a clue……….its not a desperation move. Miller was on the jets before and they went thru the problems of him missing meetings and not working hard at improving his coverage skills. So no there not gonna give him any warnings they prob spoke to him upfront when they resigned him that the first meeting he missed he would be gone.

  31. Living_Legend says: Nov 29, 2009 8:11 AM

He’s better than the cab drivers the Eagles are throwin in nickle situations.
