Brett Favre carves up the Bears

The Chicago Bears’ defense had no answer for Brett Favre today, and the result was an easy win for the Minnesota Vikings over their NFC North rivals.

Favre completed 32 of 48 passes for 392 yards, with three touchdowns and no interceptions, and the Bears only sacked him once. Chicago’s defense simply couldn’t stop Favre all day, and the Vikings won 36-10.

Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, on the other hand, continued to struggle on the road. Cutler completed 18 of 23 passes for 147 yards, with one touchdown. His two interceptions gave him a whopping 20 for the season.

The Bears are now 4-7, and whatever faint hopes they had of a playoff berth are gone. Chicago fans were optimistic about Cutler heading into the season, but 2009 has been a major disappointment.

It wasn’t a perfect game for the Vikings. Running back Adrian Peterson, who had a difficult week with an ankle injury and an illness, gained just 85 yards on 25 carries, and he fumbled twice. And Minnesota was flagged for 10 penalties.

But if it wasn’t perfect, it was impressive. The Vikings are now 10-1 and Favre is, at age 40, playing some of the best football of his career.
