Rhodes, Revis pick Delhomme twice each as Jets win

New York Jets safety Kerry Rhodes started the first 10 games of the season and didn’t have a single interception.

But in the first 10 games of the season, he didn’t have the luxury of facing Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme.

Today, for the first time in his career, Rhodes was a backup today. And against Delhomme and the Panthers, he had two interceptions to help lead the Jets to a 17-6 victory.

Delhomme was dreadful today, completing just 13 of 33 passes for 126 yards, with no touchdowns and four interceptions.

Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis also had two interceptions, having a big day and showing once again that he’s one of the league’s elite defensive players. Revis returned one of the interceptions for a 67-yard touchdown to give the Jets a 7-0 lead.

Jets coach Rex Ryan spent much of the week impressing upon quarterback Mark Sanchez the importance of being cautious with the ball, and for the most part it seemed to work: Sanchez did throw an interception, but most of the time he played under control, completing 13 of 17 passes for 154 yards. Sanchez didn’t do anything extraordinary, but he didn’t need to: With the way Delhomme played, all he needed to do was avoid any big mistakes and let the Jets’ defense win the game.

That’s just what the Jets’ defense did, and now they’re 5-6 and still in AFC wild card contention. The Panthers, meanwhile, are 4-7 and facing a tough decision about how much longer they can tolerate the error-prone Delhomme as their starting quarterback.

Why is Delhomme still the starter? He is as colorblind as Vinny Testeverde was 10-12 years ago. Too many picks and no support for Steve Smith. KFN, you have a great point… he is a bum..

Rhodes can catch but still cannot tackle.

Jerry Richardson needs to step in and show some guts and make a call. Jake is not the answer, so let’s answer the question once and for all about Matt Moore. If he screws the pooch, put Feeley in, whether he wants to play or not.
Call John Fox into your office, Jerry, and make him bench Jake. Do it tonight.
