Seahawks stumble, still whip lowly Rams

Last week’s Browns-Lions contest turned into one of the most exciting games of the season, and some fans in Detroit ended up disappointed that the game was blacked out on local television.

This week featured another game between two bad teams that was blacked out on local television, but fans in St. Louis don’t need to worry: They didn’t miss much.

The Seattle Seahawks didn’t play very well today against St. Louis, but they still beat the Rams handily, winning a rather dull game 27-17.

Seattle and St. Louis both struggled on offense, and each team punted five times. Seattle quarterback Matt Hasselbeck completed 14 of 25 passes for just 102 yards — the lowest yardage total of his career in a game when he threw at least 25 passes. And the Seahawks’ defense handed the Rams three first downs on penalties.

And yet the Seahawks still won comfortably, thanks mostly to running back Justin Forsett, who carried 22 times for 130 yards and two touchdowns. Forsett’s first touchdown gave the Seahawks a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, and his second pretty much sealed the game, giving Seattle a 24-10 lead in the fourth.

The announced attendance of 47,475 was the Rams’ worst in 15 seasons in St. Louis, and there really aren’t many reasons for optimism for St. Louis fans these days. Yes, Steven Jackson is still a good running back — he had 89 rushing yards and 27 receiving yards — but other than Jackson, the 1-10 Rams are a mess.

The 4-7 Seahawks aren’t a very good team, either. But you don’t have to be very good to beat the Rams.

    27-17 is not a whipping. That’s a competitive score.
