After 15-plus years of marriage, I’ve finally learned the nuances of husband-wife communications.
Earlier today, Mrs. PFT remarked that it will be 60 degrees today, that it will be much colder tomorrow, and that it would be an ideal day to put out the Christmas lights.
“But there are football games,” I thought. “And this is kind of my job now.”
And then, before articulating that thought, I realized that this was one of those subtle things that husbands are supposed to catch without further elaboration.
So, needless to say, the Christmas lights are now out.
Thankfully, I had Rosenthal (who pointed out that, with a name like “Rosenthal,” Christmas lights are never an issue) and MDS to cover for me. Even more thankfully, I had my fairly new Blackberry Tour from Sprint, onto which I’ve downloaded DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket.
So with the help of the Sprint device, I watched the Colts score three touchdowns, turning a 20-14 deficit into a 35-20 lead, while getting the project accomplished.
And now I can settle in for the end of the early games and all of the late games.
Until I’m reminded that it would be a great evening to trim the tree.

Thank you, Mike. In my third year of marriage and still collecting nuances to avert disaster, and I only wish I had logged on to PFT beforehand.
As earlier today I threw out the response to my wife’s request for outdoor Christmas lights…”And this is kind of my job now.”…. suddenly, I had a vision of being found strangled to death by a multicolored, bundle set.
Learn the nuances of the husband-wife communication system, and you can still watch sunday footie without getting stabbed in the eye.
