Delhomme doesn't know if he's still the starter

Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme had what might have been the worst game of a season full of bad games on Sunday, throwing four interceptions in a loss to the New York Jets.

And now Delhomme says he thinks it stands to reason that coach John Fox is probably considering making a change.

I would assume, but to say we’ve talked, no we haven’t,” Delhomme said.

When asked directly if he thinks he’ll be the starter when the Panthers take on the Buccaneers Sunday, Delhomme said, “I don’t know.”

Fox doesn’t sound like he knows, either — but he said he and the coaching staff talked about benching Delhomme in favor of starter Matt Moore during Sunday’s loss.

“There was discussion about it,” Fox said. “But overall, we felt like Jake was the best guy to be in there for what we were doing in this game, and that’s what we did.”

If Delhomme is the best guy going forward, that doesn’t say much for Moore. At this point, it’s hard to see what the Panthers have to lose by giving Moore a shot against the Bucs.

I hope he’s still the starter when they play the Pats. Should be good for at least 2 or 3 INTs.

Give Matt Moore a chance. He can’t be any worse than Delhomme.

Delhomme must play gives us a much better chance to win on the 13. dec. Lets go PATS.. Fox don´t bench him – ain´t his fault..

AJ Feeley is better than Moore or Delhomme. If they switched to AJ a couple weeks after they signed him, they’d probably be in the playoff hunt right now. And no, I’m not Feeley’s mom.

Yep. That’s the type of confidence you want to see from a starter…
Time to change horses. Done wonders in Tennessee.

The best QB on that team is AJ Feeley. I’m assuming he’s still on the roster anyway. The guy has won more game than moore.

Another thing Jake Delhomme doesnt know, is what color uniforms his team is wearing…..
Any chance that Delhomme is color blind……?

Sorry John Fox but your an idiot. AJ Feeley is the best qb on your team. The only reason Delhomme is playing is b/c you couldnt see the writing on the wall and gave him a huge contract. Right now if I had to pick 1 of the panthers qbs to replace Mcnabb if he got hurt it would be Feeley no doubt.
You gotta remember AJ Feeley got the Eagles closer then any other team to beating the Patriots during the 2007 regular season. If it wasnt for Asante Samuels picking him off the Eagles would have won that game.
Feeley is a better qb then about 10 other starters in the NFL right now.

    ______
Yeah, your VERY MEDIOCRE Pats will NEED the help…since they haven’t beaten ONE SINGLE GOOD TEAM this season.
    LOSER

Sorry Jake, you’ve given us some good years, but it’s time to move on.
Feeley is a proven backup that performed well in the Eagle’s system when asked. But just because Moore hasn’t really had the chance to start doesn’t mean he isn’t cut out for it.
If Moore is truly being groomed to be the QB of the future then the rest of the season should be his.

Fox has made it quite clear, he feels the back up QBs are there for the sole purpose of finishing a game, should Delhomme get injured, and can’t. The last time this issue came up, which was only a couple of weeks ago, he pretty much said Delhomme, on his worst days, is still better than what’s sitting on the bench.
By placing his loyalty (and that is purely what this is about, loyalty, and not logic) for Delhomme above what is best for the team, and putting Jake in a bad spot, by leaving him in, when even Jake said he understood if he got benched, Fox has shown poor leadership skills. It is not Jake’s fault the o-line bites, either. Nor should he solely shoulder the burden exclusively, of this poor season.
The decision to bench Jake should have been made earlier.
Many in Carolina feel, Jake needs to sit down and Fox needs to hit the road.

Time for the Carolina FO to man up and admit they made a colossal mistake in giving Delhomme that extention.
It wasnt like he was putting put spectacular stats during the regular season last year either; and we all remember the 6 pick fest vs the cards.
Bottom line he never deserved it and hes proving it. Time to get the other qb’s on the roster a shot to see what they can do.

Delhomme needs to be benched, I am amazed that it hasn’t happened long ago.

  16. Legend of Josh says: Nov 30, 2009 11:53 AM

Delhomme has always been one of the more unpredictable QBs in the National Football League, only now it’s he’s no longer unpredictable, more like predictable week-in / week-out, and not in a good way either!
The Panthers need a shake-up. I think Fox needs to go, and unfortunately Carolina will just need to eat Jake’s contract b/c he holds virtually no trade-value.
Peppers is a bit*h too. A lot of changes need to be made in Carolina.

The season is over, WHY would he play? He was AWFUL yesterday, I mean I loved the guy when he brought us to the playoffs in 03 and 05 but its 09 and he is flat out terrible.
Matt Moore deserves a few games to see if he has anything, otherwise the off season is dedicated to getting one. Clearly Fox thinks he isn’t an NFL QB

    whinny whinny babies in carolina…..
“It wasnt like he was putting put spectacular stats during the regular season last year either; and we all remember the 6 pick fest vs the cards.”
ah yes, but do you remember that it was a DIVISIONAL ROUND PLAYOFF GAME? that means you where in the top 4 from the NFC. Maybe if the guy didnt have jackass fans like the ones on here, he would be able to forget a game like that and move on. But no, never mention he got you into the playoffs, instead just bitch because he aint peyton or brady…that’ll probably help. If fox thinks moore is garbage, maybe just maybe he is garbage. I don’t see anything wrong with benching delhomme like they did in philly with mcnabb last year, but you fans are insane with your attitude. Playoffs are never a “given” nor is it a “right” you people don’t deserve a winning season for the next 20 years the way you are acting. guys just have bad years from time to time, get over it and realize that delhomme is a proven commodity that cannot be easily replaced, stop it with your matt ryan envy.

Delhomme should have been benched years ago!!He is terrible–i cant even pull for the Panthers because of him! They need to dump him and start over!!If i was Steve Smith i would ask to be traded to a team with a real quarterback! If Foxx cant see what a loser Delhomne is -maybe he needs to go too!

And Belichik thought Bledsoe was a better option than Brady and Fox also thought that Deshaun Foster was a better option at RB than DeAngelo Williams. Don’t say dumb things, it makes you look silly.

Please fire Fox…that way he can come to NY and coach the Defense!!!
