Giants kicking tires on kickers

The New York Giants have been kicking around the idea of getting a new kicker.

And, on Tuesday, they’ll kick the tires of a couple more.  Kickers.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Steve Hauschka and Graham Gano will come to town for a tryout.  Hauschka beat out Gano for the kicking gig in Baltimore.  Gano went on to kick the championship-winning field goal for the UFL’s Las Vegas Locomotives; Hauschka got cut after missing several key kicks.

Matt Bryant, who kicked for the UFL’s Florida Tuskers, took a physical with the Cardinals over the weekend, but he was not signed.  Bryant and Gano are both scheduled to try out for the Falcons, who have been considering giving Jason Elam the boot.

The maneuverings are evidence of how fungible — and cruelly accountable — the kicking position is.  The men who hold these positions have one job . . . to make kicks.  When they don’t, they’re done.

Odd, Tynes was the one bright spot with his 52 yarder on Thursday.

That’s a lot of kicking puns.

I can only pray that one fo them sticks and the Giants can dispose of…
I can’t even say his name

The Giants need to settle. Sure, missing a field goal is like missing a free throw, but why replace your reject with a different reject. Do kickers perform better in a better atmosphere? Kicking is such an assumed role that coaches don’t plan for a miss. Free throws and kicking field goals should be habit. If your guy misses why put extra mental pressure on him by shopping around for an NFL reject. Mental pressure is the only thing wrong when a practice/habit goes awry.

its not like missing a free throw. a free throw is the same exact distance everytime and no wind. a pro player should make a free throw with his eyes closed. FG have wind and different footing and many different factors

Fungible? You have just sent dozens, if not hundreds, of the faithful to their online dictionaries.

Why don’t the Giants try out Brandon Coutu?

Maybe because Tynes has trouble kicking to the 15 yard line? Maybe because he’s 25th in the league in Field Goal Percentage inside of 40 yards?

Yep. Glad the Bills don’t have this problem to worry about.

If Coutu is available I hope the Falcons sign him. He was money for the Dawgs.

He’s missed 5 FGs this season, in as many games. What’s odd is that he doesn’t seem to have trouble when they’re outside the 35 yard range.

The giants need a whole new defense, the kicker is not the problem. Also, i guess they are finding out the kicker has problems because they sure are kicking a lot of field goals since they can’t get into the endzone. G-Woman suck., from 5-0 to 6-5, that’s laughable.

Not winning a playoff game in 10 years… THAT’s laughable.

Not defending Tynes here, but I just want to point out that kicking a field goal is NOTHING like making a free throw… Whether, the snap, the hold, the 11 defenders trying to block it, the footing, the distance, the angle, all play a part in the play.
It’s nothing like lining up for a shot where the only the you have to deal with is crowd noise and your own inner demons.

like kicker is the giants problem… the defence is not what it used to be and those close games that they could stay in with the running game which is gone this year too are turning into 2-3 score games. granted i hope they win this week…dallas sucks…….
