Reid says Jackson "doesn't feel bad" a day after his concussion

Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson became one of the latest members of the concussion club on Sunday, a group with murky rules for getting in and even murkier guidelines for getting out.

On Monday, coach Andy Reid said Jackson “doesn’t feel bad today,” and that “[w]e’re going to continue to test him and go through the process” as the week unfolds.

The Eagles play at Atlanta on Sunday.

“I know a lot is being said about concussions and I will tell you we are as cautious as they come with concussions,” Reid said.  “We’re going to do everything in our power to make sure we give him the proper treatment and diagnosis and so on for it.”

Given the current climate regarding concussions, it would now be a surprise if Jackson plays this weekend — especially since the Eagles already have seen running back Brian Westbrook suffer a second concussion after returning from a more serious incident that left him unconscious.

Hopefully Jackson gets better “treatment and diagnosis” then Reids kids got!

Cue Falcon fans giving Jackson heartfelt advise to sit out the game. After all it’s just a game and it’s not worth risking further injury.
I would like to offer the same advice to Ryan and Turner. Toe and ankle injuries are no joke. It’s best to be cautious and think about the long term future of your football career. I’m saying this as a friend, not as an Eagles fan.

Jackson will play this weekend, no doubt. They were being super cautious with him during this game is all.

so its a surprise to Florio that Big Ben doesnt play, and now its a surprise to Florio if Desean does play… sounds like the whining of a closet steelers fan!

you think even with ryan and turner they could beat us?

How about Jackson has to sit out because of his health much like Warner and Rapelisburger did. You break an ankle i think you still have your marbles right? why make a 21 y/o kid with all the talent and potential in the world risk his future. take off the fan blinders for a minute. bench the kid for a mandatory 1 game.

Whhhaaaa concussion whaaaaaaa. Dude got a stinger and feels fine today. If that’s what’s considered a ‘concussion’ these days then I’ve suffered somewhere between 30 and 50 as an active kid growing up. Can we just start changing the sport name to the National Bit** League?

Did you watch your beloved eagles nearly lose to the terrible washington redskins? you arent worried about a healthy michael turner and matt ryan? shows the lack of intelligence on your part.

Just like the Steelers lost to the Cheifs. Patriots to the Jets. Champions do have bad weeks you know. Can’t win them all unless you are the Colts and Saints.

Your hatred for the Eagles is noted. Thank you. The point of my comment WAS NOT to say Jackson should or shouldn’t play…thats up to the doctors.
The point WAS to poke fun at all of the fans of other teams that fake genuine concern for players when they simply don’t want them to play. Remember all of the Westbrook posts? Please, those people don’t actually give a crap about him. Don’t be crazy.

DESEAN dont play you got 10 years left ,why ruin it by suiting up when your not ready.T he brain needs time to heal

despite my utter hatred for the Eagles, i do not wish any man any type of harm. i didnt want westbrook to play because i like the guy, jackson is starting to grow up so he is likeable and dont want him to ruin his career. i understand what you are saying though.

I dunno Florio there’s just somethings about Desean that makes me think he wont sit out for a week.
First off his only 22 and as a 22 year old I know we dont really think about our future health. Plus when your 22 you tend to heal alot quicker then 30 or 40 year olds.
Secondly he’s a little guy so you know his whole life hes been told what he cant do. So I think he wants to prove his toughness like most little guys do.
Also Desean is one of those flambouyant WR’s so you know he cares about his stats. He’s not gonna want to miss a chance to rack up some more numbers.
Then you gotta realize how competive he is and confident he is in his abilities. When asked before the draft what he wants his career to be in NFL he said he wants to be the greatest player of all time. Not just the greatest wide reciever the greatest player(He said this with Jerry Rice next to him smiling and agreeing). I think he believes he can do it so I dont see him missing any games if he can help it.
Also the Eagles are running of WRs. They only have Maclin, Brown and Avant without Jackson. Plus Celek has torn ligaments in his thumb. So they need him and I think Jackson will do what ever he can not to let them down.
Finally when Andy Reid said that hes not feeling bad today that really makes me think that he will be playing come sunday. All though Andy is usaully very vague about most things in his P.C.’s injuries is not one of them. He is usaully very honest and precise when talking about avaiblity of players and how their coming along. That is why he got so mad when the reporters in philly went behind his back and asked players about injuries. He was angry b/c they didnt trust him even tho hes usaully honest about those things. So if Andy thought Desean wasnt likely to play this week he would have let it be known. Andy Reid doesnt sugar coat things so with him saying Desean doesnt feel bad that means he doesnt feel bad.
Im not saying its a guarantee that Jackson plays. I just think giving who Desean is and Andy saying what he said theres a pretty good chance IMO that Desean will suit up against the Falcons.

Even if the doctors clear Jackson to play Sunday against Atlanta, the Eagles will probably hold him out of the game as a “precaution”. Translation: If he gets hit on the head again the Eagles will be blamed for letting him come back too soon. In this litigious society that we live in, this falls squarely in the category of CYA.

    did reid go feel him?

  16. JockoJohnson says: Nov 30, 2009 6:56 PM

Desean don’t play you have your whole life ahead of you. A life filled with Pulitzer Prizes, philanthropy, and regret over not playing in a game with playoff implications.

“I’ve suffered somewhere between 30 and 50 as an active kid growing up.”
    It shows.

Jackson needs to be kept out of this game just to be safe. Maclin and Avant can handle the load, i dare not even mention Reggie Brown, i would rather see Norwood come up from the practice squad than have Brown out there. Sucks we let go of Hank Baskett, Brandon Gibson and Danny Amendola….Gibson and Amendola are the Rams new best wide outs now….GREAT MOVE EAGLES…NOT. Oh, and Kevin Curtis is going on IR soon and then let go next year….sigh….
