Bears middle linebacker Brian Urlacher suffered a season-ending wrist injury in the first game of the year. He hasn’t been enjoying himself since then.
Michael Silver of Yahoo Sports spent the weekend with Urlacher and chronicled how antsy the Pro Bowl linebacker gets when watching the 4-7 Bears on TV. When Urlacher saw Vikings quarterback Brett Favre hit Chester Taylor on a 10-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, he wasn’t pleased.
“Who’s got him in coverage?” Urlacher asked. He then added, “Nobody.”
And if watching the Bears on TV is aggravating to Urlacher, seeing his teammates in person can be more so.
“I just wish I could be out there battling,” Urlacher told Silver. “When I go to the facility and see the guys, I feel like I’m in the way.”
Urlacher didn’t make it all the way through the Vikings’ win over the Bears. And just before turning off the TV, he told Silver, “This sucks.”
I’m sure legions of Bears fans agree with Urlacher.
That’s pretty riveting stuff….top-notch sports journalism by Mike Silver. An injured player watching his team stink up the joint and the utter, ‘This sucks’. Very dramatic and impactful.
Silver gets paid for this??
Funny, I was thinking the same thing after I turned that snoozefest off early in favor of the RedZone channel.
A lot of unwatchable games yesterday, and a lot of unwatchable teams out there this year.
12 plays for 2 yards in the second half.
The Bears suck.
What the hell was Urlacher thinking, agreeing to watch the Bears with Silver? What good could possibly come out of that, even if the Bears won?
“This sucks!” …….Way to burn bridges with your teammates, Brian.
Everybody is watching the Bears suck.
Just wondering if Urlacher is such a big impact player and a key cog to the Bears defense, why isn’t he on the sideline helping them get better or “coaching” them instead of watching the game on TV like any other clown? Is there some league rule that says if you’re on IR you don’t travel with the team or what? What an over-rated pile!
No worse feeling for a true competitor, then to have to sit by and watch…
Speaking of turds and shits we have a annual turd contest up here in the state of Minnesota. next year it will be called Big Turd2010. How it works is after you take a dump and turn around to admire its size and width (you know you do it) you snap a photo on your cell phone of the shit, single or double tapered it doesn’t matter, and send it via email with your name to a email address i will provide you if you are interested. There is a nominal $5 entry fee which goes to the prize pool and maintenance costs of the website. At the end of the year our panel of judges will selects ten turds to be sent back out to all the people that entered a turd that year for a mass vote. Winner takes all as far as the cash and possesses the traveling trophy for the next years contest. Would you be interested? If so send me your email as we like to send out a mailer and a welcome packet
The Bears don’t scare anybody anymore with their defense, in fact, I think opposing QBs who have seen their schtick 1000 times probably salivate when they watch the Bear’s film.
But the #1 problem has to be an offensive line that doesn’t open holes for RBs and can’t give Cutler time to throw. All their pass plays yesterday were the 2 and 3 step drop type because they knew Cutler wouldn’t have more than 1.5 seconds to throw. In the second half J. Allen abused the once great O. Pace.
Cutler is a whiney pain but wouldn’t it have been interesting to see what he would have done if he were playing for the other side yesterday with an O-line that protects, and receivers that get open and actually catch the ball?

No. More often than not, injured or inactive players do not travel with the team. Leaving them at home saves money.

Just when I think I’ve met the biggest loser in the world, you come along with this.
You are a complete waste of a human being, if this is what you call your ‘life”. Seriously. Even if you’re just yanking our chains, to spend one second of your life concocting something like this shows what a loser you are.

Urlacher is getting hammered pretty good on sports radio in Chicago. The whole Bears situation is ugly.
Brian, Watching the Lions sucks way more.
Dewey is also watching the bears suck, though he is oddly silent on PFT.
Other than special teams, you’d have to agree with Urlacher. But why would he agree to watch a game with Silver of all people?
Jay Cutler getting what he deserves at the expense of a class-act like Urlacher. Gotta feel bad for Brian, but watching Jay fold like the little bitch he is sure feels good.
Richm2256,
A simple not interested would have been suffice. Or maybe it is jealousy that you couldn’t drum up a qualifier?
“In the second half J. Allen abused the once great O. Pace.”
Allen got his two sacks after Pace left the game with a groin injury. Shaffer, the worst backup ever, did his best impression of a matador. Not sure why Williams wasn’t shifted over to LT, instead of this chump.

He has been on the sideline for every game but this one. Would you want to witness the same debacle over and over again? Lovie won’t let ‘Lach “coach them” cause it’s his defense, and he’s a stubborn idiot. Good enough for you?
Why are people getting on Silver? I think it’s more riveting to sit with an injured star while he watches his team blow the season, that the other usual crap. We don’t need another story about Favre or Manning. That’s good stuff.
Yes, it does. Watching McScabb give Cutler guidance sucks even more.
DM: U know I’ve never won a Super Bowl , right Jay ?
Jay:Yeah.
DM: Do what I do.
Jay:Yeah.
DM: TV cam on us ?
Jay: Yeah.
DM: Cool. That’s what I was after.
Chicago should be better. It’s not like they have NO weapons. They just seem to have no leaders, on the field or on the sidelines. I miss the days when Chicago was fearsome and look forward to when that returns. I miss URLACHER, even if he is winding down. Half of the joy of watching football comes the competition (at least for me). The rest comes from just watching superlative individual plays and players.

This statement just shows what an idiot, meathead fan you are who has no clue about either of these two players.
I’m a Kyle Orton backer, have been ever since he was thrown into the fire as a rookie, but how exactly did “that formula” work so well for the Bears? They went 9-7 last year and missed the playoffs!
Sure, that might be better than what they’re doing this year, but that’s not exactly championship football. Don’t act like the “grind the clock and run 35 times a game and ‘wear the other team down’” approach was producing top-caliber football in Chicago, Urlacher.
That’s what all these myopians don’t get about the Cutler trade – It’s a move that was made for the longterm plan of the team. You think the Bears didn’t know that Devin Hester isn’t a #1 WR? That their OLine sucked? Who the hell said the Bears were expecting Cutler to lead them to the Super Bowl THIS YEAR?
The point is, they have a QB now, and now they can focus on fortifying other areas of the team, and that includes getting a better coaching staff in here.

That’s the biggest piece of the puzzle right there. Coaching. Yeah, the offensive talent is overall pretty poor and the defense is breaking down. But the coaching and offensive gameplanning are truly pathetic.
Cutler can be a great QB if they retool their offensive coaching and talent.
