Antonio Pierce says he'll be back in 2010

One year and one day after Plaxico Burress ended his career with the Giants by putting a bullet through his thigh, the man who took Burress to the hospital saw his season end, via placement on injured reserve.

But linebacker Antonio Pierce says that, unlike Burress, his career as a member of the Giants isn’t over yet.

I don’t see why I wouldn’t be there,” Pierce told Alex Marvez and Marty Schottenheimer of Sirius NFL Radio.
“This was a season that got cut short by injury that shocked all of us
– management, coaches and players.  With everything I gave New York the
past five years, I feel I’ll be here.”

After suffering a couple of “stingers” during the season, Pierce learned that he has a bulging disk in his neck.

In time, the disk will return to normal.

“Doctors told me just to rest,” Pierce said.  “There’s no rehab,
medication, injections or surgery.  Surgery wasn’t even an option.  It’s
just not having contact with football.”

Next season will be the final year of Pierce’s contract.  He previously has made known his desire for a new deal, but nothing ever happened — and Pierce ultimately quit asking.

“With everything I gave New York the past five years, I feel I’ll be
here [in 2010],” Pierce said.  “If this is my last [season] in New York next
year or this year, I’ve had a great run.  I’ve been very happy and
blessed to be with a Super Bowl champion, part of a Pro Bowl and the
great players I’ve played with.  I don’t concern myself with that right
now.”

If the Giants release Pierce, they’ll save $4.75 million in 2010 compensation.

I’m an Eagles fan and i hate the Giants but i still think it would be a shame if Pierce doesn’t heal enough so that he can play again. I never want to see any player have to leave the game because of injury…but i still hate him!

I feel bad for AP but he’s very overrated at his position at this point in his career. I mean, with that DL he had for three years? Please! My momma couldve played his position. Besides, all the cap money went to Elmer Fudd (Eli Manning).

mark my words right now. Pierce will not be a Giants in 2010. I’m not sure his cap number, but there won’t be one for cutting him with no CBA. And he’s played like crap for a long time now. And his supposed “intelligence” on the field was nowhere to be found, as the players were rarely lined up in the right place.
Thanks for the Super Bowl Antonio, and that screen pass you blew up against Green Bay in the playoffs was your best play as a Giant.
But good management knows when it’s time to let a player go, and Pierce is overdue.

    Why us Eli “Elmer Fudd”?

    @ bavaro
Do you ever look at Eli’s face after every play? “d-d-d-d-d-ddang”
AP is a waste of space. Maybe he can get on the same diet plan that Lendale White got on and be effective again some day.

You’re crazy if you think he’s overrated. AP is one of the smartest players out there. Do you not remember week 2 of this year (NY v. Dallas) the play when romo called an audibile because he saw the Gmen were going to blitz. AP checked out of the blitz as soon as he saw Romo had changed the play. End result, Homo, I mean Romo threw a INT and it got returned for a touchdown.
