Irish carousel begins to spin

Now that former — and likely future — NFL assistant coach Charlie Weis has seen Touchdown Jesus extend those outstretched arms into a Bud Adams double-fisted one-fingered salute, the process of identifying the next man to eventually be fired by the Fighting Irish has begun.

John Taylor of CFT will be constantly tracking the developments, and yours truly might pitch in from time to time with an item or two on the subject at the red-headed stepsister site.

J.T. recently posted an item about the first name to hit the rumor mill.  We’ve got a feeling that plenty of additional coaches — college and pro — will be mentioned before this job is filled.

Which of course likely means there will be a new coach in South Bend by the end of the week.

There are lots of things I will pick up the penalty flag on at PFT and you can hate ND as little or as much as you like, but please don’t use the analogy of Our Lord making an obscene gesture.

I’m a Notre Dame alum and all this ND/Weis coverage is annoying. I can’t imagine how the rest of you must feel. But I suppose the NBC suits are quietly encouraging you to keep the story going.
Keep this site to NFL topics please. Nice try saying “former — and likely future — NFL assistant” but it’s still not NFL news. If Weis is talking to someone in the NFL, go ahead and mention it. If an NFL coach might be going there, let us know. But one college going after the coach at another college doesn’t belong on this site unless it affects players coming out in the draft.

Charley Weis gets 18 million form notre dame for going away… I guess cheaters do win.,.. Anyone can call a screen pass to the left when they know the defense is blitzing from that same side… “SPYGATE” The guy is a fraud… When you know how manny players are blitzing and how a team is lining up it’s easy to look like a guru… The NFL put headsets in defensive players helmets after this guy…

I love your site and read it every day. You do great work, but I agree with techvet above, the joke about Jesus giving Weis the finger was both heavy-handed and unneccesary. You guys are better than that!

Maybe it’s because I’m an evangelical not a Catholic, but I don’t have a problem with a statue giving the finger. (It’s not like it’s revered as Jesus himself. At least it had better not be if anyone’s read the Second Commandment.) Thought it was rather appropriate and funny.
I’d love to see Weis back with the Pats, but I wonder if he might think it’s a humiliation to go back to his old job. But maybe this is the Peter Principle in action — he rose to his level of incompetence and now knows he works best as an offensive coordinator.

I’ve never said this on PFT before, and when other people do I wish they just shut up and move on. But I have to, because enough is enough:
    Who cares?

This site is better then this.

I agree. Leave Jesus out of this. Vox replies to every Cowboy snub with a long anti-Liberal/Democrat tirade, so between sports AND politics there is enough friction.
