Broncos coach Josh McDaniels wasn’t happy with his team’s offense early on Thanksgiving night, so he let them know about it in no uncertain terms. And the NFL Network lovingly captured his displeasure for America to hear, “MF” bomb included.
After hearing that his words were picked up on television — McDaniels didn’t have a mic on — the coach made it clear he wasn’t happy with the network.
With a few days to cool down after his team got the motherf—ing win, McDaniels feels worse about his actions.
“I want to make sure I apologize for anybody that was offended with the
language that I used the other night on the sideline during the game. I
certainly didn’t intend for that to come across in that fashion,” McDaniels said Tuesday.
“Hopefully that never happens again and I’ll try my best to make sure
that it doesn’t from my end. I know that’s not the kind of example that I want to set or we want
to set here with the Broncos’ organization and would ask people to
accept that apology,” McDaniels finished.
It’s a nice gesture, but we’re not sure what McDaniels is apologizing for. He’s not allowed to swear at his players?
Since McDaniels can’t promise not to curse, the Broncos may just limit his exposure to sideline cameras from now on. Which is too bad for the rest of us.
Coaches and players are cursing all the time, its pretty much a part of the game. Players aren’t singing their teams rally cheer/song when they are getting ready to play….they’re saying things that would make Mother Theresa cry.
The only player that doesn’t curse is Brian Dawkins, you tube his interview/highlights called WEAPON X, he’ll tell you.
It so dumb that he actually needed to apologize. This country is too damn sensitive and for the stupidest crap. Also, this goes to show how amateur the NFL Network broadcasts are, They have ten seconds to blurt out the word dont they?
Unfortunately that is the world we live in these days. Somebody, anybody, is offended and there has to be an apology. Ridiculous.
Dont apologize for that… if the bitches out there watching can’t take it, then let them go watch figure skating!
Nothing to apologize for.
Well maybe his childish cheerleaderesque celebration down the sideline after the Patriots game. That was embarassing.
He’s apologizing because that’s the sh1t world in which we live now. We live in an “apology society” where everybody is always apologizing left and right.
If cheesedicks like Florio weren’t out there making a big deal out of McD dropping an mf bomb or Mark Sanchez eating a hot dog, then there wouldn’t be any need for all this mindnumbingly stupid “apologizing”.
With every passing day, Orwell seems more and more prophetic.
I would have respected him more if he said he wasn’t going to apologize. He didn’t do anything wrong- NFL Network did. He doesn’t have anything to apologize for.
He won a lot of fans with that tirade, me included.
I thought it was improper for him to yell at his team like that on Thanksgiving. The poor linemen could not even enjoy a meal with their families and he is screaming at them. It was not very nice. I bet his mother was not pleased with that behavior.
Since McDaniels can’t promise not to curse, the Broncos may just limit his exposure to sideline cameras from now on.
Nice double negative Rosenfool
yes, this will now revolutionize football across this country and coaches will now refrain from using any sort of abusive language
no hitting, no swearing … just good old touch football
NFL Network is a joke anyways, this is just another nail in the coffin for them to lose Thursday Night games in the late fall. In comparison…NFL network is like a monkey trying to f**k a football.
@frox
See above post by Golden_Niner re:figure skating.
What I don’t understand is why someone at NFL Network didn’t have a finger near the blooper button. Don’t these guys broadcast their game on a short delay, just in case something like that happens?
I find it ironic that McDaniel feels the need to apologize for an expletive, when that Adam Whats-his-face guy from American Idol seems to think it’s okay to simulate male fellatio on live TV, in front of (potentially) millions of kids and probably a few grannies.
The typical football viewer can probably take a bit of swearing from the sideline. I doubt too many people want to watch dude do his man-on-man action in the middle of his dance number.
That tirade was classic football. Loved it.
Words that have been around for as long as English was spoken and for those of years in other languages before that – and there are still prudes around today? I thought they left when Queen Victoria passed on?
be like b-dawk and just say “doggone it”
this is a ridiculous story! it’s football SHIT happens.
He shouldnt have to apologize, I guess too many overly sensitive motherf–kers watch football

John Carroll College next season.
He should get an apology from NFLN for airing it
He was right to apologize. Not all swearing is created equal and “MF’er” is particularly vulgar. It’s sad that we’ve become so desensitized.
And for those who say we live in an “apology society”, I say we live in a “classless society.” If Tom Landry let loose a “MF’er” on the air back in the 60s, you’d better believe he’d be apologizing for it. Not that it would have ever happened.

It’s Just NFL football………. big deal!
Brian Dawkins does not curse. Instead, he goes out of his way to say things like “Doggone”.
You know what that tells me about him? That he’s a self-important idiot who takes himself way too seriously.

I’ve finally found a winner to the most retarded comment on PFT award. Congratulations, it must have been worth all the time you spent researching on Wikipedia where McDaniels went to college in attempt to make the punchline funny.
This man should be mic’d up for every game – the highlights of which could be aired every week in a late night slot on the NFL Network. Imagine the intrigue and captivation… the mind of Belichick brought to us through the fire and vocabulary of Gruden with the tone of a boys’ choir soprano whose voice is changing.
Now, THAT would be mother f-ing great!
There wasn’t a public outcry demanding an apology from McDaniels. The NLFN was wrong for airing it. He wasn’t wrong for saying it. He didn’t need to apologize. He apologized because he wanted to. What’s wrong with having some class? Oh wait, most of you wouldn’t know anything about that…my bad.

Actually, I thought his post was pretty funny and that yours sounds like a cranky, cynical, tired old man who hates to see anyone besides himself make a clever post.
Fiddle dee-dee! That shall require a tetanus shot!
Dawkins screaming “Doggone it” is usually followed up by punishing hits, fumbles, interceptions and an opposing offense that has all of its’ players heads swiveling trying not to let/have Brian get a big play on them. FEAR B DAWK!
He can say whatever he wants b/c he is one of the all time best…Doggone it!
@ B-N-D
I agree all swearing isn’t created equal, but everybody swears, and this is football………dammit. So who gives a shit? Oh yeah, and this isn’t the 60′s anymore
I can guarantee you:
1.) He said this looking at the Cutler int’s on tape before the trade.
2.) The day after the trade.
3.) The first preseason game.
4.) The second preseason game
5.) The final preseason game.
6.) Games 7,8,9,10.
7.) When this first came up.
8.) After talking about it, then after the NFLN apology.
9.) Right after this apology.
As a Denver fan, I have said this many times over the last few years just watching the games. Why should the coach be any different?
Its pure pleasure to see this backfire on NFL Network.
Everybody seems to be leaving out the part about how when they came back from commercial, a calm and subdued McD (live, albiet 7 second delayed) was sitting and looking at film on the bench. Then they ran tape that created the image they wanted to show whether they ‘forgot’ about the audio or not. I mean, come on, it wouldn’t take a trained lip reader to know exactly what was being said.
Imagine if the Broncos fall apart: then Dukes and crew get a weeks worth of filler on how McD the hothead is too immature to handle his players. They fit him into that little box they’ve so ineptly created for him. The Broncos respond, and its “oops”, knowing full well the rest of the NFL media will except ‘oops’ at face value.
Josh MfD 2 – NFL Network 0. Maybe he didn’t need to apologize, but it just goes to show where the class lies between the two.
I guess the safe thing to do is only mic up someone like Tony Dungee. Sorry, that guy is like a walking mannequin so you’d be better off not doing it at all. Better TV to watch and listen to someone who displays true emotion. NFLN should have known that going up, it happens, get over it is right.
This is a non-issue, he should not have to apologize since NFLN got exactly what they wanted, a true reaction. Guess they should only mic up someone like T. Dungee so then they’d never get in trouble, which would be boring as hell since that guy is a walking mannequin.
He should have motherf–king tried harder, ’cause my Chargers crushed them!
Bow before us, Donkey boy!
Chargers own the AFC West, and don’t you forget it!
No reason at all to apologize. If you are so soft skinned that something like that bothers you go watch golf, figure skating or maybe Olympic curling. Its a sad comment on this country that he had to even consider apologizing for reaming out his offense after they way they screwed that drive up.
“What I don’t understand is why someone at NFL Network didn’t have a finger near the blooper button. Don’t these guys broadcast their game on a short delay, just in case something like that happens?”
Even worse, they showed it after coming back from commercial IIRC and it was from tape, not live. NFLN reaired it without bothering to beep that out.
“my owner made me say this”
Poor him.

No, knuckledragger, I knew it already.
Get a life and some class.
I merely saw an “emotional” scenario. We all know that “emotion” is large part of the game Coaches and players both have been “emotional” for decades and all networks have inadvertantly aired “emotional” outbursts. However, the NFLN chose to air from tape without proper editing on their part. The NFLN owes both the Giants, Broncos, and all viewers an apology for their atrocious editing.
Not that I motherf*cking care. Stay real, Josh!
natelan,
Your bolts don’t own the AFC West.
If anything, the Raiders have owned it more than anyone. Your team is the least, historically. Besides, there are many more weeks before the season ends.
And even if you win it, we won’t bow. We don’t bow to Queens.
This is all B.S. McDaniels should not have to apologize for anything. He’s a head coach, doing what head coaches do – talking to his players. He was using motivational language that they can understand, and because the NFL Network was stupid enough to get too close and catch the language, he now has to apologize?
Screw that. That is how people talk in the NFL. Same with the military. I can’t begin to imagine if my TI from the service was required to apologize for using rude words. Just ridiculous.
There is a time and place for cursing, and this is one of those times. The NFL Network should be held responsible for this, not McDaniels.
