@ Pervy: You are correct, the Bengals face a huge hill battle in beating the Vikings, and there is a good chance they will lose. The Bengals have never played well up in your dome, and I think the Vikings match up real well against the Bengals weaknesses. But it should be a tougher game than you are smacking- the Viking stats and scores almost mirror ours to comparable opponents.
I love the logic that since the Vikings stopped Benson when he was a Bear (murdered is how I think you put it), they will stop him as a Bengal. That is very deep deductive smack talk, but at a 4th grad level of reasoning. I would love to take your house from you next weekend, but judging from your posts it looks as if the Countrywide may have beat me to it. Zing!

Here are my two cents:
1. Palmer is not the same Carson from 2005. After his knee injury his OL went to hell the following seasons and the running game went with it. This caused him to start forcing his throws since he was getting pummeled and not comfortable in the pocket (ala Cutler). In addition he was not stepping into throws since he was protecting his knee- his throws would constantly sail. Pull out the stat books and fact check this: I bet in ’06 & ’07 his completion percentage and QB rating dropped from ’05. In ’08, he burns out his elbow from throwing too much and the bad throwing technique which he acquired from his issues. This year is a rehab year for him to get his mojo back- like it or not. If he does not get his confidence/ technique back for next season, he will not be the star that once was.
2. Bratkowski does not have the mental ability to out-scheme any defensive coordinator in the league. Like Tressel playing the SEC, he will never outsmart the opponent nor can he dramatically adjust at halftime. He is good enough to get the wins, but I don’t think he is good enough to win the ones that count. Whenever I read him talk about the cover 2, it is as if no one has ever successfully thrown deep on the coverage scheme. If I remember correctly the Lions scored on a 50 yard plus pass against the Browns- the next week Brat is to scared to even attempt one. I think they are going to throw on the Lions, at least they should, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t.
3. Comparing Palmer to Ben is like apples and oranges the past couple of years. Ben should have the better stats since he has had the luxury of having a solid specialists around him, and a line that was able to dominate the line of scrimmage most of the time. Palmer has not had this support except for the 2005. If I had to choose between the two right now, I would take Ben b/c he can make things happen when the pocket collapses, but I would take the 2005 Palmer for pure passing ability. If Palmer can get himself back to his old self, then he will put up numbers again next year.

And while we’re at it — how many big games has the player formerly known as Chad Johnson stepped up in? I know for a fact against the Steelers he never has. TJ Housh and Chris Henry have made big plays while #85 gets shut down like a scared puppy by Ike Taylor. Game after game after game.
Maybe Chad should look at his and his QB’s play as the reasons the guy in charge is calling the plays the way he has.

The Bengals tried doing that Palmer’s first few seasons, and it failed. Now they’ve de-emphaszied the QB and guess what — having their best season since Boomer and Icky. (I’ll be glad to explain who those guys were to you younger fans.) That’s why I have to laugh at all the emotional responses — it’s your own team who’s telling you what they think of Palmer as a QB. Like I said, you got a prob with that, take it up with them.

Just check the W column. You are a sad little man. Palmer is one of the best at reading coverages and defenses. You think he is overrated? That is your prerogative. Truth of the matter is that he wins games. How can you say that running and D doesnt matter in the playoffs…that is exactly when it does! You should know being a steeler fan! Palmer is accurate and has a cannon for an arm. If Palmer was to leave I think almost every HC/GM/Owner in the NFL would take him, for as much as we paid for him. You are just mad bc your QB is the one that is overrated. We showed that just a few weeks ago, or wait…he didnt ‘feel’ right that game…thats right. at least Carson owns it
