Browns officially end season for Lewis, Pool

The productive ten-year career of Jamal Lewis has met an unfortunate ending.

The Browns placed Lewis on season-ending injured reserve Wednesday because of post concussion symptoms.  Lewis has stated repeatedly he plans to retire at the end of the season.

Safety Brodney Pool was also placed on I.R. because of a concussion.  The team filled one roster spot by claiming former “Mr. Irrelevant” Ramzee Robinson off waivers.

“After consulting with our medical team, we felt that this was in the best
interests of both Jamal and Brodney at this time,” said Browns coach Eric
Mangini.  “As I’ve said before, organizationally, players’ health and safety
are paramount in any decision we make with regards to putting them back on the
field.”

Lewis will best be remembered for his 2003 season in which he rushed for 2,066 yards
He also gained 1,660 yards from scrimmage as a rookie to help Baltimore win a Super Bowl.

The fifth overall pick of the draft in 2000, Lewis was never as dominant after ’03.  But he had a better run in Cleveland than expected.  At least until this year.

Pool is also facing questions about whether his career will continue because of a recurring concussion problem.

The transactions leave an open roster spot; PFT’s Mike Florio reports the Browns are expected to fill it with running back DeDe Dorsey.

Yeah. Can’t believe Mike Hart is not on an NFL roster. He deserves a look. And what do the Browns have to lose?

We know … With the loss of these two its gonna be hard for the Browns to make the playoffs.

I bet if you researched the number of players each team has put on IR each year since 1999, the Browns would lead the NFL, and it wouldn’t be close.
For 2009, I’m counting these two, Heiden, Barton, Rogers, and Zastudil. That’s 6 and just in the last few weeks.
This organization (and their fans) just can’t catch a break….. ever.

Just what the Browns need. Another loser from Michigan.

    Coop,
    You are missing a few.
Davis, Grennan, Jackson, Steptoe and Tucker.

The Browns have more players on IR than they do touchdowns scored. Sad.

Not glad to see anyone get hurt, but OH SO happy this guy is finally gone from the field. He should have retired last year (if not the year before), and he’s one of the reasons (among many) that the Browns have sucked so bad.
It’s bad enough that you have to stutter step for 8 minutes before trying to hit a hole. It’s far worse when you do it week in and week out as if *you’re not even aware* that you’re doing it. Then, of course, there’s the ego part that says “I’m still physically the same as when I was 25 and can bust right through the middle.”
    Delusional.

I could of sworn the Browns’ season ended months ago.

I’d love to see the IR #s. It coincides with teams that are great at losing (I’m sure the Bills are right up there too).

Does every team have 10 or more guys go on IR every year? I ask because the Browns have the last ten years and I never remember that being a problem before Baltimore stole our team. Even in crummy years it was pretty unheard of.
