Though their team failed in its effort to win the inaugural UFL title game, two members of the Florida Tuskers have secured postseason honors.
Quarterback Brooks Bollinger is the league MVP, and Jim Haslett is the coach of the year.
“We congratulate Jim Haslett and Brooks Bollinger on their success this year and for being named coach of the year and league MVP, respectively,” UFL Commissioner Michael Huyghue said. “The Florida Tuskers had an outstanding season and, despite losing in overtime in the Championship Game, their unbeaten regular season record is a tremendous accomplishment. Coach Haslett did an incredible job with the team while also balancing administrative roles traditionally not handled by the head coach. Brooks Bollinger is a remarkable athlete and leader and is an asset to any professional football team.”
“Coaching in the UFL was a wonderful experience and I enjoyed every minute of it, but the last one,” Haslett said. “Seriously, from the beginning, I was confident that the overall talent available would provide quality football to the fans and opportunities to players who wanted to further their career.”
Haslett, former head coach of the Saints and interim coach of the Rams, has been mentioned as a possible candidate for the head-coaching job in Buffalo.
Bollinger is expected at some point to be signed by an NFL team, but it likely will happen only after an injury is suffered by a quarterback currently on a team’s depth chart.
Professional football math:
Brooks Bollinger > Brett Favre
Jim Haslett > Chilly
UFL fans > Vikings fans
Mike Florio > Twiz-zinator (the original)
The 2009 Florida Tuskers are the 2007 New England Patriots.
Love_Boat_Scandal is definately a Packers fan.
Your being envious of the Vikings is unbecoming of you.
If Brooks Bollinger is your MVP, what does that say about your league/competition?
@Love_Boat_Scandal
Sounds like you are just plain jealous of the success the Vikings have had this year. Hey, I have an idea. Why don’t you hold your breath waiting for Favre to fall apart.
Hey did anyone watch good old BB come in for Dallas last season? He sucked. He played with a bunch of bums and played well.
Bollinger would be a better # 3 in Philly.

Evidently Jim Haslett can get something out of a QB that Wade Phillips can’t . . .
Brooks also threw a pic on the first play of overtime that cost his team the game. Sour.

Tuskers for LIFE
You have got too be kidding with this story…Shape up Florio or your new daddy Comcast will flush you like the lump you really are…
@love boat scandal
you are pathetic.
Congratulations to Jim Haslett.
It’s really an accomplishment to take home an award that, going in, you had a 25% chance of winning (Ok, 33% chance when you consider Dennis Green was also one of the contenders).
Bollinger is not as good as Kolb, guy threw two 300 yard games in his first two starts. If you look at his college highlights the guy can run like hell as well.
Anyway, point is getting recognized for your success in the UFL is just the same as getting a paticipation trophy at a YMCA event! God why does everyone care about the UFL so much? Shit, I’d rather see the Arena league come back, at least they had more than 4 teams.
Congrats to Bollinger & Haslett.
I really hope Hughuye (sp) gets his games on regular tv, and not some weird alternative channel that most of us don’t get, next year.

I don’t agree with the HC postion, but as a Defensive Coordinator… most definitely!
Still waiting for the article about the Grey Cup, Mr. Florio. Don’t make me write it myself and post it as a rambling twenty paragraph post.
Its OK to be late, as long as you make up for it by providing solid coverage and analysis.
You can even prop it up by pointing out Trestman’s possible link to the Bills, and also use the NFL game in Toronto tonight as a backdrop. (Jeez, do I have to do everything?)
*sigh*

Alouettes win with a field goal with no time on the clock, after an unsuccessful attempt immediately prior was erased by a Roughriders penalty.
May as well do this here as well, since PFT won’t cover this stuff.

You mean like the NFL Network?
“Quarterback Brooks Bollinger is the league MVP”
and that just about sums up the UFL, doesn’t it?
