Yes, the Saints and Vikes have for the most part easy schedules. They don’t have the bruising schedule of teams like the ones in the AFC North who have to play tough physical defenses twice a year. The Vikes did play the Steelers (No 1 defense) and lost. Let’s see how the Saints do against a tough, physical defense.

Here’s a breakdown of what RogerSucks & Sando where saying about the schedules:
NO: Phil & NE – 7-4
Min: GB & GB (2nd time) 7-4
NO: NYG & Atl – 6-5
Min: Pitt & Balt – 6-5
NO: Mia 5-6
Min: SF 5-6
NO: Car & Buf – 4-7
Min: Chi & Sea – 4-7
NO: Det 2-9
Min: Det 2-9
NO: St Lou & TB 1-10
Min: St Lou & Cle 1-10
NO: NYJ 5-6
Min: Det 2-9
NO played one team with a better record for a total of three more victories. Not a lot of difference.
For those assuming it’s automatic to beat bad teams, just check in with Cincy, Pitt, Phil, Ari, Atl, Den, NE & GB and see if they agree with you. There are also a fair share of teams barely surviving close shaves with some of the dregs of the league.
Let’s just appreciate the fact we have three teams with a combined record of 32-1! The only thing that guarantees any of them, is they have huge targets on their backs from here on out. Man is football awesome!

Havren, those teams weren’t ranked like that at the beginning of the season. Look both the Saints and Viking are extremely good. I like the Vikings so i’m not trying to take anything from them, i just think the Saints are better right now. All joking aside, i don’t want to play them in the playoffs, having Farve with all the experience he has me a little nervous…lol. Well if nothing else were in for a hell of a football game.

Saints are a good team, but my Vikes are better. The Vikings have a better d than anyone the Saints have played. Before anyone starts naming defensive ranks, most of the yards the Vikings give up are between the 20′s, so to me they don’t really count. Vikes roll through the rest of their “cupcake” schedule, which includes 2 division leaders, and a possible wild card team, and into a first round bye and good chance of homefield throughout.

Take a look at the 2009 NFL Strength of Schedule page. (Google it on Sprint phone, because I don’t think they like links in comments). Based on last years W/L records, the Saints had the 8th most difficult schedule (.557 win pct). The Vikings had the 31st most difficult schedule (.423 win pct).
However, based on current standings, the Saints had the easier schedule with opponents having a .395 win pct compared to Vikings opponents with a .42o win pct. Removing the W/L created by Saints and Vikes and you get .422 and .442 respectively.

As a Vike fan, it’s hard not to like Brees or disagree with him. They’ve got the upper hand against most every team, including the Vikes by a little bit, particularly at home. I hope they get the chance to play in the NFC title matchup, as it would be a hell of a game. The winner will deserve to go to the Super Bowl.

Kind of funny to hear all this talk of who had the tougher schedule. Both teams played two 7 win teams, two 6 win teams, and then a bunch of teams with currently under .500 records. Aren’t we kind of splitting hairs here saying one has had it easy over the other?
Both the Vikings and Saints have had relatively easy schedules and dominated most teams on them, including some good ones. You can point to how the Saints dominated the Pats at home but I’d say the Vikings dominating the Packers in Lambeau was equally as impressive seeing how unpatriotic the Pats are this year. The thing is that in today’s NFL any team that hasn’t had to play the Colts, Saints, or Vikings has had a relatively easy schedule!
When it comes down to it I believe both the Saints and Vikings are better than your average top seeded teams. It would be anyone’s game and likely the spread would favor the home team by 3. I do believe however that the Vikings have better balance run pass defense special. I also believe that the Saints defense would not look its usual self because of how AD forces teams into those crazy 8 and 9 man slanting fronts. On the other hand Brees and Co would cut through our D albeit with a higher pass percentage than they are used to. Nobody runs on the Vikings basically.
It would be a fun game to watch that’s for sure. Hopefully it happens.

Quit complaining about who each team has played, all they can do is take care of who is on the schedule. Based on the records entering the season the Saints had the 9th toughest schedule while the Vikings had the 31st. So the so-called Saints cupcake schedule is bull.
And for the natural counter argument saying well that was the beginning of the season: Up until this point in the season each team has only faced a team with an above .500 record (current record) four times. Their schedules seem pretty comparable at this point. So if one is a “cupcake”, they both are.

I think I speak for a large portion of Vikings fans with this view:
The Saints are a very good team. So are the Vikings. It’s a shame that one of them — possibly both — won’t be in the Super Bowl because both teams are better than many other teams that have been the Super Bowl (especially if they go 16-0 and 15-1).
If the Saints beat the Vikings in the NFC championship, it will be very disappointing for the Vikings, but hats off to the Saints because they have a chance to be one of the all-time great teams. However, it’s a matchup Vikings fans can feel good about their odds, no matter where it’s played. I don’t think the Vikings SHOULD win. I also don’t think the Saints SHOULD win. Whoever plays the better game that particular day will win. Neither team is much better than the other.
But talk of the NFC championship is premature. Both teams have to continue taking care of business, otherwise a team like the Eagles or Cardinals could find their way to the NFC championship.
And when it’s all said and done, maybe it’s the Colts that win the Super Bowl and get talked about as one of the greatest teams of all time.

And they would’ve beaten the Steelers D WITH Troy Polamalu (sp?) except that the refs gave the steelers yet another game. And the Vikings have the “Who deys” coming up, and they have a very good defense as well.

Brees is a class act and so is the rest of the Saints. It all starts with their coach. His main message to the team after the win Monday night was ” We played a great team and beat them! Let’s continue to stay humble and take it one game at a time”. I have not once heard the Saints disrespect any opponent this year and even Shockey has become humble. The way they are playing they have nothing but respect to all teams they face this year. As for their schedule no one expected them to blow out the Eagles, Giants and Patriots let alone come from behind in Miami to win. So people give the Saints their props as well as the Vikings. Neither team is talking smack they just go out and play to win the game. Colts are the same way.

The Colts are in a better position than the Saints because they are further ahead of their competition in the AFC. LOL….OH MY. Anyone who knows anything about football can look at the Vikings schedule and compare it to the Saints and see that the Vikings have an easier schedule. Look at who they have played and by how many points they have won by. So i hear some say the Saints barely beat this team or that team, guess what every team has a bad game. The defenses they have seen are alot better than what the Vikings have seen. I think even the Vikings fans are waiting for that 5 pick day for Farve, it’ll come in the playoffs when they play the saints who most off yall said “Brady wont’ fall for those same mistakes other teams have for the Saints.” Just give them there props and face that their good. And as for Washington…..Saints have seen way better defenses and average more than the skins points wise. Good luck….lol

I think Brees answered the question honestly. The Saints do have a realistic chance to go 16-0, and 19-0 for that matter. They are taking it one game at a time. The Redskins game will be tough. On the road, short week, very good defense, after an emotional home game. Even with that, I will be at the game just behind the Saints bench cheering them on.
The Saints have to keep winning, not because of the possible 16-0, but to maintain the #1 seed in the playoffs. Lose 1 game and all bets are off for the Super Bowl. I don’t see the Vikings losing a game – until the playoffs.
