Harvin, Cushing win rookie of the month honors

Two first-round picks from the 2009 draft have been deemed the top two rookies for the month of November.

Vikings receiver Percy Harvin is the offensive rookie of the month, and Texans linebacker Brian Cushing is the defensive player of the month.

Harvin, the 22nd overall selection, caught 19 passes for 317 yards and three touchdowns.  He also had five rushing attempts for 54 yards and eight kickoff returns for 239 yards — an average of 29.9 yards — during the team’s 4-0 run for the month.

Cushing, who was the 15th overall pick in the draft, notched 43 tackles, a sack, and two interceptions during four November games.

Both players are viable candidates for offensive and defensive rookies of the year.

Vikings have benefitted over the years by taking elite raw athletes that fall due to character/health issues.
    Moss. Peterson. Harvin.
Moss would act up every once in a blue moon but he always played effectively to say the least and was liked by most team mates. Peterson and Harvin have been healthy and well behaved and great on the field.
Moral of the story is when you pick football players try to avoid the divas but don’t worry about drugs, violence, or non-knee injuries.

I think Harvin has played very well this year and deserves the ROY award but I also think it has alot to do with what team he is playing for. The Vikings have such a big spot light on them this year b/c of Farve that anything Harvin does looks extra great. Right now he is tied in receptions and touchdowns with Jeremy Maclin and only has 60 yards more recieving then him.
But Maclins name is no where in the running for Rookie Of the Year right now. I think if Maclin was a Viking and Harvin was an Eagle Maclin would be the leading candidate for ROY.
Im not saying it b/c I think Maclin has played better then Harvin he hasnt or b/c I think their is a bias against the Eagles I dont. Im just saying b/c all the drama that went on with Farve this year and b/c how good hes played Harvin has an advantage over any other rookie.
It seems like everyone has already made up their mind who the Rookie of the Year is even tho theirs 5 games left. All I want is for people to realize theirs still alot of football to be played and that if Maclin out plays Harvin the next 5 weeks he deserves consideration for the award.

You arent including the Kickoff returns in this argument…..Harvin is averaging close to 30 yards per return…those stats count also.

Ho Hum… just another Viking winning yet another award. It’s tough being a fan of the single most talented team in the NFL.
    All we do is win
    All we do is win
    yadda yadda yadda…
I love being a Viking fan.
    Thank you Mr. Wilf

Don’t forget the running plays. Plus Harvin the 3rd down guy for tough catches over the middle from the slot. Very clutch all year and has some highlight catches after taking big hits. Don’t know enough about Macklin to say the same about him.
But it does seem like the Heisman race in college football. The players seem to be pre-ranked going into the season then can pass up each other based on performance. Because of what Harvin did at Florida and the talk that he could be ROY if he stayed healthy and out of trouble, now that he is doing his part, it will talk a much bigger effort by someone like Macklin — even though he also was a mid-to-late 1st round pick — to surpass Harvin.

Merril Hoge said on NFL Live, before the season started, that Percy Harvin would be the “biggest bust” of any of the incoming rookies. Nice take Hoge. Mark Schlereth said right after Brett Favre was signed, the Vikings would not even make the playoffs. And oh yea, how about Adam Scheffter and his “schism” story. That didn’t pan out to well. These clowns from ESPN have zero credibility with me and I think they should be held accountable for their ridiculous takes.

Peterson has character issues? Why because he made a stupid decision to drive 110 mph — one time. Yeah, let’s lock him up for life…
What else has he done wrong exactly — other than fumble?
Also, this article can’t be right as “football expert” Little Bobby Nelson said Harvin assured everyone that Harvin was the biggest bust in the first round. Right, Little Bobby???

Harvin is just insane, i’m an Eagles fan but Harvin looks like he is just as good as Desean Jackson but a larger frame….Desean is still faster though.
It would be crazy if in the pro bowl the NFC had Harvin on one side and Jackson on the other….but that wont happen..Eagles will be in the super bowl haha ..maybe

Why thankyou but chocolate or apple martini? Is that what men drink in WI? I might if I had tits and wore lipstick. Shaken Beefeater Gin with a splash of dry vermouth . A couple olives. I’ll make a man out of you yet son! Learn it, know it, live it.

Youngs79- Merril Hoge and Mark Schlereth are a couple of the biggest tools on television. Mark also said Chilly was being a douche for binging in Favre like that. Showing no security to his players. How did that work out Mark?

    Route,
Maclin has had a solid start to the season no doubt. But Harvin has clearly had the better season.
You are correct that the two have the same number of receptions and Harvin only has 50 more yards and one more TD. But Harvin has other things going.
Harvin has 91 yards on 8 carries. Harvin leads the NFL in return average and kick return TD’s. Harvin has 5 more first downs and double the YAC. Harvin has 21 3rd down receptions compared to 8 for Maclin. Harvin has also accumulated these superior stats despite being targeted less times than Maclin.
And Harvin just looks better doing it…
