In NFLN interview, Romo avoids mentioning T.O.'s name

Michael Irvin of NFL Network recently interviewed Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.  The final product will be broadcast on Sunday morning, as part of NFL Gameday Morning.

In an excerpt that aired during halftime of Thursday night’s game between the Jets and the Bills, Romo talked about the differences between last year and this year for his team.

Romo made vague reference to a player who wasn’t happy, and who was “emotional.”  But Romo never mentioned the name of the player in question — receiver Terrell Owens.

So why do we have a feeling that Owens will at some point be responding, and specifically mentioning Romo when doing so?

Last season, Owens reportedly was complaining about the lack of passes thrown his way, specifically alleging (allegedly) that Romo and tight end Jason Witten were conspiring privately to funnel more balls toward Witten.

After the season, Owens was cut, supposedly to remove a fairly large impediment to Romo’s ability to lead the team.

Good for Tony. T.O. was a cancer last season. There really is no reason to talk about him anymore.

Romo lost his T.O. privileges. Now if he’s in the woods, he can point and say, ‘A bird lives in a round stick! And you have things over-easy with toast!

No, TO got cut because he sucks, which he is proving in Buffalo. So far against the Jets he has 1 catc hfor 6 yards …. an a drop on third down … and another ‘drop’ because he got alligator arms.
Actually he could have been referencing any number of ex-Cowboys — Tank Johnson or PacMan for instance.

Man up Romo. Your one of the biggest girls in the NFL. Afraid of the big bad T.O. Romo?

  12. PolegoJim says: Dec 3, 2009 11:58 PM

Tony couldn’t REMEMBER who the player was.
It’s the same with ALL his receivers once the playoffs begin.

Earth to Florio.. T O isn’t a member o the Dallas Cowboys . I haven’t heard Romo mention Drew Bledsoe by name either.
Get over it. except for a couple of Games, T O has continued to be a shell o his former self and Romo and his team are in first place in their division.
Besides, he doesn’t have to mention his name, a hit dog will holler.

    Greg Ellis-emotional and big mouth
Tank Johnson- Emotional and big mouth
    TO- yep
    PacMan-yep
    Brad Johnson- why not

  15. downsouth49er says: Dec 4, 2009 2:11 AM

With T.O. or without him, Romo will still suck in the latter part of the season, starting sunday against the GMANNNNN and the boys will either make the playoff and be bounced in the first round or not make it and Vox will go in his cave until OTA’s and the combine. Either way it’s a win win for the Cowgirls haters like myself…oh yea by the way, Vernon Davis is better than Witten and Bennett combined lmao

By the way, the only thing that Davis is better at than Whitten is, a, I cant think of anything.
    Your a troll.

Its kinda funny how people say tony romo is going to fail at the end of the season just like they said he was going to fail last season just like they said he was going to fail during the offseason just like they said he was going to fail after their first loss just like he was going to fail when he only put up 7 points…. and yet he continues to shut people up.. its sad that a QB whos all time wins record is over 70%. He has the most yards in his first 3 seasons as a cowboys QB and he takes so much crap from all you clowns.. I personally think its funny that people have time to bash on romo because their QB is horrible and noone wants to talk about him.

  19. NoKoolaidCowboy says: Dec 4, 2009 7:16 AM

I do not understand what is so difficult about mentioning another man by name.
Ever play ball in the park? There is usually one guy who runs his yap constantly, trash talks and so on. Some can back it up, some can’t. It’s a personality type.
Romo, Garrett and of course Phillips are all soft (waspy) guys. They were threatened by Owens personality. If just one of them had the balls to be straight with Owens they would have had a better chance reigning him in.
Love Jason Witten, but do these guys reallys think they can create a clone of Wittens in their “Romo Friendly” enviornment with a goal toward success?
Anyone who has ever been in a position of any authority knows you will have all types under you. And that requires effective communication.
Instead of taking Owens aside and telling him to “Shut the f— up, I hear ya, I’ll get the ball to you when I can…” they give him the silent treatment. Non-confrontational.
Romo’s non-confrontational style of leadership is weak. But it is the same style demonstrated by Garrett and Phillips. They need fire in their bellies and it just isn’t in their personalities.

  20. Popeye says: Dec 4, 2009 8:09 AM

Too bad this was taken out of context as Romo was mentioning this as a whole team, not a single player……the bigger story is Romo saying he doesn’t know what it takes to win a super bowl…..how about we start with a playoff win….
    Unbelievable

  21. VickIsNoQB says: Dec 4, 2009 8:21 AM

First off, I like Romo. The guy wins ballgames, maybe not a playoff game yet, but he will. Everyone needs to remember it’s only his 3rd full year in the league as a starter. That being said, he needs to toughen up a little – call a guy out if he starts shit. He needs to dedicate himself more – no more trips to Cabo or Vegas whether it be a charity event or not. Do that stuff after the season. Avoid all controversy if possible. The haters will hate with every little thing he does no matter what. And the media will always blow it out of proportion.
TO is a total different story…
He blew his chance in SF with Garcia who threw to him exclusively. The one game he had 20 or more receptions. He blew his chance in Philly with #5…probably his best. He blew his chance in Big D. Now only Buffalo wants him…I don’t see anyone taking him next year, even Oakland.

“Romo, Garrett and of course Phillips are all soft (waspy) guys. They were threatened by Owens personality. If just one of them had the balls to be straight with Owens they would have had a better chance reigning him in”
To say they were afraid of what his personality was doing to the team would be more correct. And it isn’t a QB’s job to reign in anyones attitude.
But having said that, let’s look at T O’s …” personality”
As cocky as he seems, what he really is is very insecure and completely out of control of his emotions. Ever work around someone like that? It’s complete hell and no one can do their own work for dealing with the constant drama. TO HAS to be the center of attention, and when his team won without him, he was never happy. He was happier if he had 2 td’s and his team lost than when he had none and they won.
People will say ” he wanted to be involved because he is competitive and passionate. That isn’t the case at all with him, it has to be about him.
And it has been everywhere. San Fran, philly, Dallas and it will be that way in Buffalo, mark it down if he stays there after this year.
T O has had a career which will end with him in the HOF. Good for him. Does anyone think he will look back and see all those QB’s he had in his career that GOT him there? He wasn’t tossing the ball to himself out there.

Who are any of you morons calling out Romo fans of. Unless it’s Brady, manning or big Ben you need to take a look at your loser qb’s. What has rivers won? What has brees won? What has cutler won? I could go on an on. What are we going to talk about, Brett favre 40 years in the league with 1 super bowl win and 10000 pickles. How many more could he have won if he didn’t throw the ball to the other team all day. Eli manning who got lucky his D got hot. Eli is something like 7-6 in December. He has shown this year he cannot win without a dominant D. Romo has started 3 years. Twice making the playoffs and once winning NFC east. Eli didn’t win a playoff game for 4 years of starting. Romo
is a winner, but this is a team and the cowboys D has let them down the last few years but morons on this blog especially glorious fail to see that because you don’t watch football you watch the espn hype machine talking about December. There is only 1 winner every year. So if winning 1 playoff games makes you loser fans happy, no one here cares or remembers who won the wild card game in 2002. People remember super bowl winners. And the cowboys have 5 and trying to win 6. Cheering for 1 playoff win is something the browns cheer for, not cowboys fans. We want super bowls. After Brady manning and big Ben all the other qbs havnt won crap either or the last time they won it was over a decade ago. So when december rolls around and were in 1st while giants fans will be at home wathing playoffs you douche wanna be mafioso from the garbage state of jersey can all blow me. Oh how you wish you were really from new York.

“Vernon Davis is better than Witten”
    aaaaaahahahahahahaha
And Nancy Pelosi is NOT a lizard under all that cloned skin and botox.

  29. redsquare says: Dec 4, 2009 9:44 AM

I think they have some more changing to do before removing cancers to the team’s success. And it starts with Garrett, who has shown an astounding inability to decode opposing defenses and adapt offensive plans accordingly over the course of a game. I’m still stunned at their recent games against Green Bay and Washington. Game-long ineptitude like that is astounding with the raw talent they have.
Phillips is very unconvincing and would be better off as defensive coordinator. Romo needs a real hardass in the head coach/offensive coordinator’s chair, albeit a hardass who can work with his fragile psyche.
For all their failings, they seem to be one strong dose of discipline away from being a top-tier team. But Jerry Jones is making such incremental changes that it’s hard to see how they’ll get there.

  30. The Dox says: Dec 4, 2009 9:51 AM

Alright I don’t care about Romo or TO, but Jason Witten does not funnel balls.

  31. nationscapital10 says: Dec 4, 2009 10:17 AM

No one cares about TO. Only Cowboys fans should care about Romo. As a cowboys fan I could care less about rodgers, cutler, stafford, favre, eli, mcnabb, palmer..etc. None of thise guys win without their teams, why is Romo any different. Even Brady is losing big games now that his D is not what it was. Come on Florio, let this TO thing die, the guy is a year or two from retiring and he is in sorry ass buffalo. No one cares, they might be in Toronto soon.

  32. PolegoJim says: Dec 4, 2009 10:56 AM

    Hey Matt.
Its kinda funny how tony romo has failed at the end of every season …. and yet he WILL NOT shut people up until he figures out how to play past the first week of January.
Its kind of funny acting like a mature QB of one of the best Franchises in sports history eludes him. Instead, he smirks and shucky-darns like a high school kid at the end of horrible losses like it was no big deal.
“He has the most yards in his first 3 seasons as a cowboys QB”… can you say Brian Griese. You go ahead and bank on your YARDS and completions. Most of us measure success by winning playoff and Championship games.
So far, he’s a big show no show bust, and Jerry knows it.
Stop dishing out clown-like information to feed your Romo man-crush and get real.

  33. Bedhead says: Dec 4, 2009 1:32 PM

I guess Romo is so polarizing because the Cowboys are so polarizing. If you’re so blinded by Cowboy hatred that you can’t see that Romo’s a top 5, or at worst a top 10, QB in the NFL, then you just don’t have credibility with me.
Yep, he hasn’t won in the playoffs, but neither did many other highly successful QBs early in their careers. But it’s a team game. One player does not win or lose the whole thing. Elway didn’t win a SB until Denver had a legit running game with TD. Manning didn’t win it all until Indy’s defense became a beast in the ’06 playoffs.
Maybe some of you are freaked out that Romo’s continuing to improve and you can’t stand the thought of what that means down the road.
