Sunday's Jaguars game blacked out in Jacksonville

It hardly even seems like news anymore when the Jaguars fail to sell out a home game and get blacked out on local television in Jacksonville.

But we’ll point it out for those who haven’t heard: The Jaguars have announced that the game is not sold out and will be blacked out in Jacksonville and the secondary markets of Gainesville, Daytona Beach, Orlando and Savannah.

The team is also reminding fans that the CBS broadcast of the Texans vs. Jaguars game can be viewed by local fans on jaguars.com and NFL.com starting at midnight Sunday night. This is the first year that the NFL has allowed fans in blacked out markets to watch the game online afterward.

The Jaguars said before the season that they expected to have a local blackout for every home game. They’re now two games away from making that expectation a reality.

How are blacked out games in Jacksonville still news? Let us know if one makes it to local T.V.

    Unreal.
Buffalo better not move to L.A. instead of Jacksonville.

  3. WashingtonRedstorms says: Dec 3, 2009 1:37 PM

    Cue the Los Angeles talk………………
The L.A. Jaguars vs Houston Texans would not sell out either, in fact they would have they same amount of crowd as a UFL game.
Spare us the LA Jaguars talk.
The Jags should draft Tebow, he will pack the stadium in.
    Or Move to San Antonio.

No real shocker there. The only real drama left is whether the Thursday Night game between the Colts and Jags will be blacked out in a few weeks.
If the Colts are still undefeated, and that game is indeed blacked out, then I’d say that is cause for grave concern for the future of pro football in Jax, considering that the Jags are still in the thick of the playoff race.

Everybody in the Jaguars organization deserves a swift kick to the nuts. People do not like to see losing and with the economic times we are facing, who wants to pay to see a losing football franchise? Not I. The owner, GM, Del Rio, should be ashamed of themselves. The fans are speaking loud and clearly. Spend some money you cheap b*s*a*ds.

LA is for the Raiders, whose home attendance is worse than Jacksonville’s (yep, you read that right – Jacksonville does not have the league’s worst attendance).
San Antonio, however, looks like a nice spot for the Jaguars. :)
@scrapdawg12: Who wants to watch a losing team, you ask? Real football fans. Grow a pair.

  9. texasPHINSfan says: Dec 3, 2009 1:55 PM

Draft Tim Tebow & the Jags will sell out. Who cares if he’ll be a good professional QB or not, the franchise would return to profitability. Keep him on the team as a bit-player or change of pace H-back. If he’s just on the team in any capacity, they’ll sell tickets :)

Have you taken a look at the standings lately?
Apparently you haven’t, since the Jaguars are currently 6-5.
Buy some tickets and support your team, or quit your bitching and don’t complain when Wayne Weaver (rightfully) gives up on folks like you.

Just for the record, the fans who actually have shown up this year have seen the Jaguars win 4 or their 5 home games this year.

Yes, LA residents will embrace The 4 time SB losers. Bills.
    Please.
    The LA Dolphins sounds good.

  13. penguininbondage says: Dec 3, 2009 2:13 PM

LA would embrace a new team the same way they have the last two. And where are they now?

  14. Ranoversquarells says: Dec 3, 2009 2:16 PM

Hard to attend a football game when you don’t have a home as such is the case more and more often in northern Florida.

  15. cheekychappmusic says: Dec 3, 2009 2:18 PM

DROP THE PRICE. If the Jags did, I would go, but in this economy it is too expensive to go to a game. I would go even though I am not a Jags fan! (Phins) The Jags stadium is among the biggest in the league, hence why the tarps are on the top, and it is tougher to sell it out than many other stadiums. They built the stadium that large for the annual Georgia/Florida game, and the sole Super Bowl a few years ago.
I’ve written before and I will write it again: before I moved to Jax a few years ago I lived in LA. LA WILL NEVER support any specific pro football team – there are too many entertainment options for far cheaper, plus some of the residents are not native and bring their loyalties with them (especially in Hollywood where I lived). I was there when both the Raiders and the Rams left, and NO ONE cared when they left.
The most logical solution, to have pro football in LA, is to have every team play a 17th game in LA once during the year against a non division opponent, with the exception of the teams playing in the London game. That way every team has a neutral site game each year, and the LA fans can go to watch NFL football without having to support a single team who could have a losing season.

    Sunday ticket has me spoiled.
Who the hell wants to go to a game? A bunch of drunks and $5 hot dogs?
You suckers keep going to the games….I’ll stay home.

6 years of Shack Harris player aquisition combined with JDR’s nonchalant personality has caused many football fans in Jacksonville to simply lose interest. This isn’t about getting Tebow. This is about bringing people who used to love the Jags back to where they at least care. My fathjer bought 4 season tickets and had them from 95-01. This past Sunday, he told me he watched all of the Vikings game and none of the Jags. He says he has no interest. When he liked the Jags they had, Jimmy Smith, Brunell, Bosellii, Leon Searcy, Tony Brackens, Kevin Hardy, Fred Taylor, Aaron Beasley, McCardell, Donovan Darius. This team has MJD and he is making his debut as a full time starter. No aquisition of talent has made the Jags irellevant in their own town.

  18. J. Clayton says: Dec 3, 2009 3:12 PM

Attendance started to dwindle during the 1999 season when the Jags went 14-2.
The people of Jacksonville just consider their NFL franchise to be as important as the Jacksonville Lizard Kings, or the Jacksonville Suns.
It’s all fun and games, complaining, moaning, and finger pointing until ….
That stadium is empty. The Jaguar logo is a sad reminder of what you used to do on Sundays.
I love the Jags, but the people of Jacksonville need to wake up and embrace what they have. They’re flat out stupid if they don’t.
Meanwhile, I’m looking forward to this Sunday when the Jags bash the Texans face in.

  19. Ravens1818 says: Dec 3, 2009 3:47 PM

And this city got the exspansion franchise over the Ravens. The NFL is ridiculous.

  20. Bob Nelson says: Dec 3, 2009 4:06 PM

They built too large of a stadium.
If they had a dinky arena like the vikings (64,000), the local television affiliate could bailout the team by buying enough tickets to avoid a black out.
The Buccaneers learned that when they abandoned “The Big Sombrero” for Raymond James.
Some teams have large stadiums and have sold out for decades and never have to worry about such things.
Having a well liked quarterback would be real helpful to the attendance figures.

  21. nfcbeast says: Dec 3, 2009 4:29 PM

Jacksonville was the best city to live in because the Jags tickets were so cheap!
20$ I got to see the Colts, Eagles, Steelers, Bengals, …oh and the Jaguars as well.
But seriously, it was so inexpensive that it was great! Cheap beer, food, it was a blast ! I miss it

  22. nfcbeast says: Dec 3, 2009 4:38 PM

A few years ago whenever there was a possible blackout, Winn Dixie and Publix grocery stores used to buy up tickets and give them away at their stores.

*****Local television affilates have purchased zero tickets this year to avoid a blackout. And, Bob, considering that you are a Minneapolis resident; and based on your style of writing, you are 55 years old, at least, and you are a bitter old fart who probably appauded the fact that the Metrodump came in well under budget back when it was built. And – 64,000 is not much smaller than Giants Stadium. Just wait til the new Giants stadium is 1/3 empty for Jets games next year. New York fans couldn’t even sell out ANY of the World Series games this year because of ticket prices.

*******I assume you are slamming Brett Favre. Let me tell you this, you idiot – the Packers were shit before Favre arrived. You should be thanking him for saving that franchise. Maybe they would be in LA by now.

  25. ras6111 says: Dec 3, 2009 5:18 PM

How can all these idiots say they don’t go to a game b/c the Jags have no talent? They have the same record as the Steelers and the Ravens. Maybe the Jags should move b/c of all the fairweather fans. Just don’t cry when they do move. Btw they won more playoff games in the last 10 years then the Cowboys.

1.) Please learn to spell before you make a post.
2.) The NFL wanted a new market ( keyword new) to try out pro football along Carolina. Baltimore if I remember didnt have its ducks in a row , St Louis had a better chance of getting the 30th Franchise.
3.) They would have not been the Ravens for that came later and is in no way connected with that Expansion group, That team would have been the Baltimore Bombers.

  27. dan073eb says: Dec 3, 2009 8:19 PM

It’s all because of the fans apparently. You can’t blame the coach, gm, players, etc. This team is 6-5 and in the thick of the playoff race now in december. in what is supposed to be a “rebuilding year” where they cut half their roster in the offseason and is the nfl leader in the number of rookies starting, they still have a winning record. I hope they can somehow fix this because I am a jaguars fan (in ny), but jaguars fans need to wake up. It’s depressing.

  28. Jag4Life says: Dec 4, 2009 8:27 AM

In a city with 1.4 million metro area selling out a game should not be a problem and never has been a a major problem until this year (19th in NFL attendance last year, look it up). Yes the economy is a factor(17,000 season ticket holders cancelled in off season). So with 1.4 million people one would think selling getting 17,000 more season ticket holders to make up for the 17K that cancelled would not be a problem, right? Well, while every wants a winner every year which is unrealistic, real and casual fans just want something to get excited about.
Shack Harris squashed all the excitement with all of his bust draft picks year after year. Yes he hit pay dirt with MJD, but 1 out of every ten is unacceptable. Combine that with Jack Del Rio’s no imagination way of thinking and horrible offensive coordinators over the years with no talent around has took all the excitment out. And riddle me this, since when has a head coach who over 7 years is 55-51, barely over .500 with 2 playoff appearances is the standard. Now granted when the Jags had a bad year, they always rebounded the next year giving Del Rio a lifeline.
I personnally am a REAL fan and support my team win, lose or draw as a true fan should, but enough is enough. It’s time for a coaching change now more than ever. Fans need to get excited about Jag football. If I know my teams playbook (1st down-Run, 2nd down-Run, 3rd down-incomplete pass, 4th down punt) I’m pretty sure every team in the leauge knows it as well. Offensively no excitment, no imagination.
This is a 6-5 team with no shot at the playoffs, lets be honest. Could they make it yeah, but if they do then Del Rio gets another pass for what will be called another SO CALLED SUCCESSFUL SEASON. Wayne Weaver is a good owner and hopefully he’s listening loud and clear to the fans. Bring in some star quality free agents, an offensively minded coach and as much as it HURTS me to say this, if it means keeping my team that I LOVE from moving, draft Tim Tebow if that will excite the city. I don’t care what you do, just do something, NOW!!!!!!!!
    Sincerely,
    A loyal but disgruntled fan

  29. dan073eb says: Dec 4, 2009 12:35 PM

I really wish this team had REAL fans. For Christ sake, I live in bills country, their team hasn’t been to the playoffs in over 10 years, has lost 4 consectutive superbowls, they play in shitty ass weather, and do you hear them whining about going to the game? How about Cleveland? Could you imagine jaguars fans having to support one of these teams? Grow a pair of balls jaguars fans.

  30. Fred C says: Dec 7, 2009 12:18 PM

I was raised in Buffalo (along with areas like Pittsburgh, Philly, Chicago, New England, etc) which is a REAL football town. I suffered through 4 SB losses and still wore my bills gear the day after. I’ve lived in Jacksonville for almost 20 years and was stoked when I heard we were getting a NFL franchise. I have been a season ticket holder before tickets were sold to the general public (First Union employees were able to get first dibs on tickets back then.
IMO Jacksonville should have never been considered for a franchise. The fans here are spoiled and fair weathered. We owe much of that to the college teams we have like Florida, FSU, and Miami, who all have typically been powerhouses in the NCAA. Locals here are used to having winning college teams and expect the same out of an NFL team. They are also quick to blame everything and everyone and the blame changes weekly. Look back when we had Coughlin and people were screaming to get rid of him. They did and look what happened. Went to the Giants and got himself a superbowl ring!
Bringing Tebow to JAX would be a HUGE mistake for Tebow. Look at Taylor. He was good back in the day when we had Brunell, Boscelli, Smith, etc. but he never really shined like a Peterson, Bush, or LT especially after all the key name Jags left. Yes Tebow would increase ticket sales, for a while, but after the first couple of loses or mediocre performance, the same people who wanted him here, would be wanting to string him up.
The core TRUE fan base here is small. The rest of the people you see in the stands wearing teal, who attend when they expect we are actually going to win, are fair weather, wannabe NFL fans. Check out the lower section of the North End Zone. That’s where the most of us are!
Jags should pack up and go just so people here can get a lesson in appreciating what they have. “Don’t know what you got ’til its gone!”
