Friday morning one-liners

Members of the 1972 Dolphins are taking issue with the notion that they’re grumpy old men because of their annual celebrations of the last team to lose a game.

Patriots CB Shawn Springs said that he’s in favor of the new return to play rules for players who suffer concussions.

It appears that rookie LB Paul Kruger has leapfrogged LB Antwan Barnes, inactive in four of the last five games, on the Ravens depth chart.

Said Bengals offensive line coach Paul Alexander, “Winning the game is way more important than developing Andre Smith. We’re right in the thick of something very special and
we have to make sure we see that through.”

RB Jamal Lewis’s Browns teammates are sad that he can’t play out the rest of his final season because of a concussion.

Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians slammed the door on the idea that QB Dennis Dixon could see time after Ben Roethlisberger returns to the lineup.

The Texans’ offseason investment in their pass rush hasn’t paid off.

Bob Kravitz of the Indianapolis Star found that many Colts have a hard time remembering their last regular season loss.

The Jaguars waived DL Derek Landri and promoted DE James Wyche from the practice squad.

Said Titans RB LenDale White of being deactivated last week, “Things don’t always happen the way you want to in life, regardless of
whether your excuse is legit or not. Whatever happened, happened. Now I
just want to do what I can to help this team. If they need be, I will
be here.”

Marcus Thomas doesn’t have ideal size for the position, but he might be the Broncos nose tackle of the future.

Chiefs RB Kolby Smith missed practice on Thursday with a sore ankle.

The Raiders think they’ve found a good fit for the Elephant position in Trevor Scott.

The Chargers have enjoyed excellent field position during their six-game winning streak.

Sunday marks Cowboys WR Miles Austin’s first return visit to New Jersey since breaking out this season.

Said Giants LB Danny Clark, “The city likes when we beat Dallas. I’m totally into it. I want to
devote every ounce of time and effort and passion to hopefully bring
that to fruition.”

Injuries have opened a door back into the lineup for Eagles WR Reggie Brown.

If the Redskins hope to upset the Saints, they will have to win the turnover battle.

It looks like the Bears will move Kevin Payne back into the starting free safety spot and play Danieal Manning as the nickel back.

Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham thinks rules limiting practice hours in college are hurting defenses at the NFL level.

Packers T Chad Clifton still isn’t able to take part in drills after injuring his hamstring on Thanksgiving.

The Vikings offensive line has done an excellent job while incorporating two new starters.

The Falcons expect to have WR Brian Finneran back in the lineup on Sunday.

Panthers DB Dante Wesley will face the Buccaneers for the first time since getting suspended for his hit on KR Clifton Smith.

The Saints have cracked the top 10 in NFL team merchandise sales for the first time.

Although he has played well, the Buccaneers are trying to keep things simple for QB Josh Freeman.

Cardinals DT Darnell Dockett says his goal is to be as good or better than Redskins DT Albert Haynesworth.

Rams RB Steven Jackson is concerned about how his back will react to cold temperatures in Chicago.

The 49ers are replacing Manny Lawson with Ahmad Brooks as a nickel pass rusher.

After getting his ribs injured in their first meeting of the year, Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck said he’ll slide to avoid another hit from 49ers LB Patrick Willis.

I turn into a grumpy old man every time I watch a football game and hear “Dolphins” and “champagne” in the same sentence, especially this time of year.

Bruce Arians has got to be one of the worst OCs in the pro game. Not surprising, though, since his head coach isn’t very good either, despite his recent “success” in the SB, with a team that was handed to him.

“If the Redskins hope to upset the Saints, they will have to win the turnover battle…”
… and finish up the work on the time machine.

“If the Redskins hope to upset the Saints ” . . .
Maybe they should start praying for snow in Hell?
