Ryan confirms positive result for Sanchez MRI

Jets coach Rex Ryan confirmed Friday that the team received a positive report regarding quarterback Mark Sanchez’s knee injury.

“We’re optimistic that he’ll be ready to play against Tampa Bay, but we’ll see how he progresses throughout the week,” Ryan said in comments distributed by the team.  “Obviously, that’ll be a decision that I’ll have to make with advice from our medical staff.  I’ll make the decision that is always in the best interests of Mark and any player in that situation and then the team second.  That’s how we’ll progress.  We’ll see how he is through the week.  It was encouraging news.”

Ryan also confirmed that Sanchez has a PCL sprain, and Ryan laughed when saying that he doesn’t know the grade of the sprain.  (What’s funny about that? . . . .  And now we know how many of you feel when one of our attempts at humor falls harder than Sanchez’s right knee onto the Toronto turf.)

But while Ryan called Sanchez out after the game, describing the rookie quarterback a “knucklehead” for diving and not sliding in the third quarter of last night’s game, Ryan seemed to defend Sanchez today, sort of.

“If you polled 32 quarterbacks, 30 of them would have said go for it or 31 of them.  He’s my quarterback,” Ryan said.  “He’s our quarterback and I want him to slide.
. . .  Mark’s instincts are to dive head first and not slide.  That’s obviously what he’s more comfortable doing, but in the long run, he’s going to stay healthier longer by sliding.  That’s all I’m trying to do is get his instincts to, “OK, I need to slide,” [even] if it means a public bashing by me, if you will.  This is like one of my sons here.  That’s how you approach it.”

So, basically, Ryan is saying he’ll huff and puff and in the end he won’t really do anything if Sanchez fails or refuses to do what he’s told.

Sounds to us like Minnesota isn’t the only place where a young player who isn’t responding to coaching isn’t facing any real consequence for it.

Considering that in medicine, positive means negative and negative means positive, the headline is confusing.

Yeah, I imagine Adrian Peterson is laughing into a beer over the threat to bench him. SUCKERS!

He laughed because he answered the question 9 times before that. Thats what the NY media does they keep asking the same dumb questions over and over til they get a reaction

All you Jets haters would be on here saying Sanchez was soft if he slid two yards short of the first down, so just yer traps.
Sanchez will slide when needed, I’m not worried. But I know he’ll dive head first again if it means a first down or touchdown.
That’s just fine by me. It was a random play on some turf that isn’t suited to have a NFL game on.
    He’ll be fine.

    WTF!!?!?!
In medicine, generally a positive result isn’t positive, so this headline is as stupid as the Seinfeld where George gets hystergets hysterical over hin negative report.

True. The New York Media does do that. I don’t blame Sanchez because he dove (even though in the long run he’s hurting himself). I blame Rex Ryan because he’s an idiot.
I don’t hate Rex Ryan because he’s fat. He’s fat because I hate him.
I could be wrong about this but was it the same knee he hurt last week?
    Regardless, C’MON MAN

If I were Ryan I would grow some balls and discipline my players when they dont listen. Then I would probably eat a dougnut… Just sayin.

Agreed. I tested positive for an STD and I was by no means happy with the results.

Yeah florio does these things intentionally, he knows it’s misleading, but he’ll get more clicks if he writes the misguided title… as long as florio is willing to share the dividends of my clicks, then by all means, keep misleading.

Enough with AD, Failio. This is completely unrelated. Why don’t you quit your job and go coach pop warner football.
