In October, Seahawks coach Jim Mora said it was too early to give tackle Walter Jones a “career eulogy.”
It sounds like Jones is nearly ready to give a eulogy on his own.
The nine-time Pro Bowler posted the following statement on his Twitter page Friday morning. (Note: Thanks to Scout.com for pointing us to Jones’ page.)
“I think I have had a great run at this thing the NFL and seahawks and the fans have been great to me,” Jones wrote. He also said: “I think some time you came push your body to the point of no return and you have to face reality.”
The sentiments are not a surprise, despite Jones’ words in October that he hoped to play again. Jones also said over the summer he’d consider retirement after the 2009 season, and that was before he required a second knee surgery in less than a year.
Jones is due $7.3 million in base salary next season, but his words indicate the franchise great probably won’t try to earn that money.
It seems like only a matter of time until Jones’ number 71 is retired alongside Steve Largent and Seattle’s “12th man.”
It always sucks having a keystone player retire. I’m not a Seahawks fan, but i know the feeling watching players go.
Eagles have just been letting tenured greats go,
Runyan…Tra Thomas and Dawkins…yeah, def not happy about Dawkins not being resigned. At least Jones is gonna get to retire with the Seahawks.
great tackle , living in florida and being a fsu fan i watched it all. hard to find a great tackle
We’ll see you next in the HOF! Too bad it ended in injury but you did the Seahawks and the NFL proud.

Profootballtalk.com says something nice about a Seahawk? I guess they say there’s a first time for everything.
He’s earned his retirement. I remember 2005 with him and Steve Hutchison on that line…unstoppable right up until SBXL.
Good luck in the future Walter, and thanks for the memories opening up the holes for the RB’s.
